How about those Raiders? They look really good. Surprisingly, Seattle didn't. Really like the Raiders though, I might put a wager down for them...

Glad I didn't :D. But I was honestly kicking myself for NOT placing the bet like I wanted during week 14.

This is why I don't gamble anymore. Just draft kings for me :D

I still don't see anyone beating the Patriots.

To me, they are the most intelligent organization. They just call the right plays at the right time and do their homework

Injuries are why you can never call anything a sure thing in the NFL.

Oakland is so reliant on offense that it's hard to see them going far or even winning a playoff game, which sucks for them.

New England is a great maximizer of talent, and with home field advantage throughout the playoffs will be able to avoid the buzzsaws that Heinz Field and Arrowhead can be. Kansas City is an interesting team.....they win in the most unorthodox ways, and if their defense can show up they might be able to beat the Patriots, because last year in the playoffs their defense didn't show up against them.

One more round of mostly meaningless games, and then the fun can begin. :icon_thumleft:

Can't wait. Might go to the 9ers game tomorrow just for the heck of it. Tickets are so cheap. VIP goes for under $200. Such a great deal.

LMAO!

There was also a time when you could sit on the floor to Warriors games for $2.5k per season. Now that is the cost per ticket.

I take advantage of these times :D

The VIP ticket is amazing. Free food/drink, field access, private entrance, free parking, etc. The ticket is pretty much free at that price point due to breaking even with food/parking, etc.

Just put down $100 on Kansas City for the heck of it, I hope youre right :D. +950 odds. Why not, it is always fun to bet a little.

Good Luck with the KC bet! It should pay out higher due to Reid/Smith.....but we'll see. :icon_mrgreen:

First round of playoff games....poor Oakland and the loss of Carr. I didn't catch the Dolphins/Steelers game but heard Roethlisberger is in a walking boot?

Eli Manning/Giants as a playoff juggernaut got taken down a few notches. The memes over the Miami Boat thing are out in full force. Beckham's gotta grow up soon.......it took years for TO get a similar reputation.

Packers still have to beat Dallas and ATL/SEA (all road games) to make it back to the Super Bowl. It's doable but I'm curious to see the status of Jordy Nelson's injury.

Seattle looked ok in their win, but not sure if I see enough for them to threaten the Falcons next week. No homefield advantage or Earl Thomas is a lot worse for them than the opposite several weeks ago.

Next week:

Steelers @ Chiefs

Texans @ Patriots

Seahawks @ Falcons

Packers @ Cowboys

I like the home teams in all but maybe Dallas or Kansas City.

Cowboys is hard to call. The whole matchups thing is the only explanation for how Dallas beats Green Bay who beat NYG who beats Dallas. Last time Dallas kinda beat up Green Bay a little in Lambeau, but a bit has changed since then. I figure this to be the best game of the weekend.

Chiefs I think with the first home divisional playoff game in 14 years should be amped up. That defense, special teams and Tyreek Hill gotta come out to play. Smith has to make a few big throws in this game as well. If they do all of that they should win, Big Ben at full health or not. Steelers are good but more reliant on a few key guys than KC who is loaded everywhere. Still the question mark always looms around Alex Smith, but he tends to elevate his play in the postseason.

Patriots/Texans......just hope the Texans can at least cover.

Falcons/Seahawks....we're gonna learn once and for all how good Russell Wilson really is. And of course, the Seahawks are always hard to kill off for whatever reason. Teams that are down 31-0 at half time tend not to only lose 31-24.

Super Bowl LI thread for next two weeks!

Atlanta Falcons vs. New England Patriots

Who do you guys like?

Opening line, Patriots by 3.5.

I'm going to digest this one a little bit before offering commentary.

The Falcons look GREAT.

I can't call it. It is going to be a great, high scoring Super Bowl.

I'm going to give the edge to the Patriots because of experience. They have what it takes to play flawless in the big show, Altanta not so much.

You saw what happened to CAR against DEN last year, inexperience got the best of that team, I can also see that happening to ATL. CAR ran through every team up to the SB, but they couldn't pull off the big win.

The Patriots definitely have a Roger Goodell sized chip on their shoulder. I would love nothing more than seeing Brady and the Hoodie stand on the 50yd line with giant smiles as Goodell hands them the trophy, and I am not even a Pats fan. Goodell can't avoid the Pats any longer.

The Falcons are definitely more prone to mistakes. The Pats do a great job of making teams pay for errors while making very few themselves.

Either way, I think we will see a far better game than last year.

Yeah, that's what the Patriots always have going for them. They play smarter ball most of the time and often do not turn it over.

I'm still working on looking at matchups and film but my early prognosis so far is this:

If the game is a legit shootout (like both teams in the 30s), it probably benefits the Falcons as they are the better offense. Brady might be a better QB, and you could argue that the Patriots defense will slow down the Falcon offense better than vice versa.....but that was pretty scary what they did to the Packers last week once they get on a roll.

Now if the game is low scoring, say less than 20 points scored each going into the 4th quarter, then it definitely benefits the Patriots. If they find a legit way to hold the Falcons under 24 points or even just keep it close below 30 points, you have to like the Patriots.

They have all of the championship game pedigree, and make no mistake about it, upon a lot of film review that "goal line stand" that the Patriots prevailed on last time was way more than pure luck and terrible playcalling by Seattle.

If it comes down to a one possession game late in the 4th, you'll have to be concerned if you're the Falcons.

Having said all that I don't think it's a given that the Falcons will wilt easily or choke in this game like you say the Panthers might have last year to the Broncos.

Rooting for the Falcons of course :)

Didn't know you were a Packers fan?

It's always safe to bet on the Pats

It's definitely always safe, betting straight up. They had some freak luck work against them with the Giants two times but otherwise have won every game.

Now spreads are different story since they've won by 3 points 3 times, and won once by 4, and lost to the Giants twice as favorites. I'll have to check the spreads on those older SBs.

Biased life long Falcons fan here. This year's team feels different than any other year I have been a fan. They believe in each other. Rise Up Dirty Birds!

I can't stop thinking about this Super Bowl.

3 straight runs probably wins the game for the Falcons with 95% certainty.

At the same time an epic comeback to add to NFL lore.

Dude, why did the Falcon's stop running the ball? They were killing it by running it.

What a fricking game. Everything had to be perfect for the Patriots to win. Amazing, they had a 0 probability of winning by the end of the 3rd.

No, I'm just saying a lot had to be done to get that win. Stops, 2 point conversions, TDs, etc. Even when it was plausible it still seemed impossible. It was an amazing comeback, and I was rooting for the Patriots.

Me too, and for different reasons.

The Rams are the proper LA team, while the Raiders were merely visitors back in the '80s and '90s.

I'd still like to see them return to Oakland eventually, when a new stadium could be built.

The Vegas experience should be interesting.

http://www.espn.com/blog/nflnation/post/_/...las-vegas-rules

PHOENIX -- Before the Oakland Raiders play their first game in Las Vegas, the NFL will change a pretty important rule.

For the first time, the league will allow referees and other on-field officials into the city.

Yes, you read that correctly.

To guard against even the appearance of a conflict, the league has for decades prohibited its officials from visiting Las Vegas at any point during the season -- with the exception of personal emergencies or mandatory meetings for their non-NFL jobs. They are allowed to visit in the offseason, provided they inform the NFL office. But even then, they are barred from sportsbooks.

Obviously, the in-season ban will have to be lifted since the Raiders' move to Las Vegas was approved 31-1 on Monday. As the league opened its 2017 owners meetings, the current policy was a reminder that Vegas-style gambling remains an important subplot despite the NFL's clear evolution on the issue.

As the NBA learned in 2007 with referee Tim Donaghy, the most efficient way for gamblers to fix a game is through the officials who administrate them on a play-by-play basis. That's part of why the NFL historically has gone to great lengths to protect its officials from exposure and avoid even the perception of meaningful contact.

Owners obviously are no longer fearful of placing a team within a sports gambling mecca -- a public stadium contribution of $750 million plus $200 million for maintenance has a way of changing minds -- but that doesn't mean they have dropped their concern about it entirely.

In fact, according to Green Bay Packers CEO Mark Murphy, the issue was likely to come up during Monday's meeting.

"I do think that's something we'll discuss," Murphy said, "and [go over] what kind of precautions are going to be taken to ensure that we don't have a major scandal coming out of having a team in Las Vegas."

During most of its history, the NFL's stance on Las Vegas always was clear: No way. But the recent growth of online gambling, Murphy said, largely destroyed the geographical boundaries the league was trying to maintain. Sports gambling isn't just available in Las Vegas.

"Gambling," Murphy said, "is an issue everywhere."

The point here is that the NFL hasn't relaxed its previously didactic views on gambling as much as it has recognized a changing landscape. There are still people within the league who are uncomfortable with the potential for a "major scandal" with a team located so close to the country's geographic sports-betting center, enough that as late as the 2016 season, officials' travel there was substantially limited.

That particular restriction will now have to be changed. The league is moving to a city whose primary industry it has long shunned. But as we sit on what feels like a major turning point in league history, it's important to remember the NFL's responsibility to maintain the credibility of its games -- because its officials will soon be allowed into America's Sin City.
