Jarryd Hayne, NRL to NFL

Curious if our Aussie NRL fans are looking to follow Jarryd Hayne's transition to the NFL with the SF 49ers?

One of the few bright spots of a tough offseason for the 49ers, I've always been fascinated with seeing a fusion between the two "codes". :icon_mrgreen:

The two sports while similar on the surface are so different in what they require from their players: football a game of specialists, and rugby a jack of all trades athlete.

Here's a writeup on how Hayne was able to make it onto the 53 man roster:

I have heard of rumours of some of the Rugby Union guys getting offered silly money contracts to sit on the side of a field for a long time.

Always a bit of spice and controversy when a player switches from Union to league or vice versa so should be interesting to see how this third option works out. Good on him though, great to see the success.

It's been all over the news here :) I've been following it, great to see an Aussie breaking in to the sport!

It's awesome. I think if he does well this year they might do an exhibition game in AUS next year for a little homecoming....

Would love to see an NFL player just try Rugby for fun, but too many risks and the $ unfortunately isn't the same.

I have learning to do on this rivalry.....

So Union pays more than League?

That would be really interesting if they did, I would definitely go. Still trying to wrap my head around all the rules though!

Is he getting much coverage over there?

He's gotten a bit in the Bay Area at least, but not so much nationally until he gets more playing time or scores a few times.

Hayne is the #5 selling jersey in the NFL through week two.....impressive. You guys surely are buying them overseas!

Would like to see him make an impact soon. The guy is good in pass protection and can make guys miss in space....with Reggie Bush out another game possibly, would be nice to see him make an impact.

My NFL IQ is not as good as yours (NBA, come talk to me), but he isn't going to he making an impact anytime soon. You can just see it in him.

Side note, 9ers vs Steelers was the biggest game I was looking forward to watching.

Their schedule is VERY tough this season.

They can either learn from what the Steelers did to them, adjust, still have a good season, or just fall apart against the Cardinals tomorrow (great division game).

We shall see. Cardinals are no joke.

JFC, gonna be a long season. MrDoctor we can commiserate over PM.

But the one bright spot of this game was that the best SF play was Hayne's 37 yard punt return which led to their only points today. Probably a shutout without that return.
