Eye candy at the track

Had a fantastic 3 days at the track. 2 day DE. One day open lapping thanks to our local Porsche dealer (customer appreciation day). Burned a bunch of gas, and tires are on their last legs!

THIS pulled up today. New GT3RS. 200 miles. Lava orange. PCCB. The hood and doors are CF. Roof is magnesium (or so they said).

The chief instructor has the white 997 RS and another guy has the orange 996 RS. Got 'em together for a photo op of three generations of RS next to each other. Green Cayman R is mine.

Side note: excited to head to Indy in a couple weeks to do the IMSA course. First ever club DE allowed at Indy. I'll be amongst a rare group of roughly 300 people driving their personal car on Indy "at speed" (which is a relative term obviously). Three days of solo lapping. Should be fun and very historic. Will have a chance to run the oval (slow/paced) and kiss the bricks (no tongues!!) :P Should be an epic trip with lots of race history. I'm not really a connoisseur of Indy but the friends I'm going with are BIG into the race history. The track might not make it to my top 5 but it'll be fun, and a new circuit and I'll be with good friends whom I enjoy.

And yes - that's a car seat in the 991 RS! He had his 4 yo son with him.

Awesome pics!

How do you like the Cayman vs the 911s on track? I hear the Caymans hold their own quite well.

The GT4 looks like an amazing car, maybe more desirable than a gt3 rs. :eusa_shhh:

Btw, you sure the Orange is 996? Headlights seem like 997.

I wish I had a like button so I could like it, then unlike it, only to unlike it, so I could like it again about 1000 times.

Insanely jealous Carol! I got addicted the the Indy 500 when I was 4 years old watching with my grandfather. Have watched the race every year since but surprisingly have never gone! Drove past the track once.

If you want a good read I suggest Rapid Response: my inside story as a Motor racing life-saver. By Dr. Stephen Olvey

Outlines a lot of the fight and implementation of safety in American open wheel racing. Maybe I liked it so much cause I used to do trauma in my past life.

Isn't that orange one in the pics a 997? Looks like orange 997, white 997.2 and lava 991. I could be mistaken though.

:You are correct! My mistake. Lava 991 with white 997.2 with orange 997.1

I love the mid engine - it is superbly balanced. I was slippin & slidin all over the place this weekend. The new circuit has rather low grip and that combined with tires at the very end of their useful life made for FUN corners (lower speeds too but that's a good trade for sliding around). I've driven some 911s on track (and street) both old and new, and it's a spectacular car. I see why so many love and are loyal to the 911. I think the Cayman is also a spectacular car and it boils down to personal preference (and in some cases price point since the Cayman is "entry level").

Yes - the Caymans do quite well on track.

Thanks for catching my error! Yes - he is a cool Dad and his little boy was really cute.

I will read it - thanks for the suggestion! I'll post some pics after the trip. Should be a blast and just being in the GP garages will be a thrill. The main thing for me is being with friends, a new circuit, and the history of driving a storied track although I admit I'm not THAT into the history. By the end of the weekend I'll know a lot more because the guys I'm with will probably give me a non-stop education! Looking forward to it.

Very cool, I ordered my GT3 RS in lava orange as well, amazing color!
It is a spectacular color. Very different from any orange I've seen on a car. It looked great with the gray wheels and yellow calipers. It's quite striking! Can't wait to see photos of your RS. Glad to see you are enjoying your cars, including the Porsches.

Yep - see comments above. You are not mistaken!

I need to know what kind of car seat that is!
That's the ONLY THING YOU HAVE TO SAY??? :lol2: :lol2: :lol2: Three amazing cars (four if you count my humble C-R) and you ask about a CAR SEAT??? Hilarious!

I zoomed in....looks like COSCO brand. Googled it - they sell 'em at Target, Walmart, etc. Many different types.

Now if it said "GT3RS" at the top of the car seat...THAT would be cool :icon_thumleft:

They are the optional seats, same as those found in the Porsche 918 supercar.

I know I know. I see a child's car seat that looks like it EASILY fits in to a sports car and my eyes light up! This was the first year I missed taking Zach for his Birthday ride because I was already over here in AD. :(

Oh and your Cayman R is one bad b$@#%. :eusa_dance:

I meant the child's carseat but thanks!

Hannibal how do you like this one? it's my son's, sorry no photos of it in the Lambo, I can take some next time.

I like it! Does it have the 5 point harness for when they are younger? The one in the P-Car had a 5 point harness and my two still require that as they aren't quite old enough to get away with just using the 3 point from the car.

I have one that believe it or not fits in my Exige. It's one narrow seat. Can't recall the brand off hand. I can check later today. It has a 5 point harness but also can be used with the factory seatbelt when they get bigger. Daughter had only been in the car twice in 4 years though.

Not this one but I am sure you can get a Recaro which has the harness you require.

Update

The lava RS pictured above has sold for $75K over MSRP.

There's another one on ebay (an hour left) that's at $308K with 61 bids and reserve isn't met yet. MSRP was $212K

Gee whiz. Makes $75K seem like a bargain

Different track - more eye candy!

Spent three glorious days at Mid Ohio. Friday was solo lapping day and weather was just about perfect until 4 pm. Sat/Sun was a DE and it was cold (50/60s) but we dodged a lot of surrounding rain and didn't miss any run sessions due to weather.

Hubby came for a couple days in the GT4 (break in miles only - no track time). There was another yellow GT4 on track. Very cool to see/hear it go past on front straight.

Same lava orange RS pictured earlier in thread - this time with new owner tracking it for the first time! Sounds like a BEAST!

More pics from Mid Ohio this weekend

Still LOVING the Cayman R - it's an absolute blast!

IMG_5092.JPG

This nice rig is owned by a couple I first met a couple years ago at Sebring. He: GT3RS Her: Cayman R

They were also at Indy, and will be at Daytona in January. They offered to transport my car down to FL

so I'd have something to track over the winter! Not sure it'll work out - but was a very generous and

kind offer!

Is that a custom cage in the Cayman R? Mid Ohio looks like a blast looking at the layout. One of the great American tracks

Tarett cage. Not custom.

Mid OH is my second favorite track. Very technical. Lots of fun. (#1 = Mosport)

Tarett cage. Not custom.

Oops. It's a Cantrell cage. We were going with Tarett but changed last min. Prefer the sturdier bolt in arrangement of the Cantrell.

Sorry - I looked at the cage and realized my error. I think the wheel studs are Tarett.

Anyway - very happy with the installation and fit. Hoping I never need to find out just how sturdy it is.
