alecela Report post Posted February 19, 2017 Anybody w/ problem on their fuel gauge? Upon filling up this morning, I noticed that the fuel gauge still only showing abt. 25% left but the receipt clearly showed 78 litre of fuels pumped... As I cruised on, I noticed the digital fuel gauge would go anywhere between 75mi left to 200mi left and the analog ful gauge would go from amber light on (near empty warning) to about 2/3 full! I checked the fuel cap is being tightly screwed on... Any idea/clue? Thanks in advance for any help/pointer.
IanMan Report post Posted February 19, 2017 Sounds like an issue with your fuel pump. It may not be the motorized part of your fuel pump that siphons and relays,, but at a quick glance of the Murcielago's fuel pump I'd say that there's something wrong with the lever that detects your current fuel level. Over time the circuit boards in components like this can corrode or go bad thus giving a false reading. In this situation, (and someone correct me if I'm wrong), the best decision might be to obtain a new fuel pump unless there is someone who can correct the existing onboard. Please wait for someone else to chime in before you listen to me though.
Stimpy Report post Posted February 19, 2017 Sounds like the fuel sender in the tank, and those usually can be replaced without replacing the fuel pump. Could just be a bad connection to the sender. Any work done on the car just before the problem occurred? The more I hang around these forums, it seems many problems are mechanic-induced while they are fixing something else. JanDaMan Report post Posted February 19, 2017 How is it today after driving it? Not quite your situation, but after I fill up it typically only shows about half full and stays there for a while. Only after driving it for many more miles does the guage begin to gradually move toward full. Just figured that is normal, although a bit odd. No. It was last serviced in Nov 2016. Will try to get the car out again this weekend to see if the problem persist.
Chipster Report post Posted February 20, 2017 If it's driving fine, then most likely your gauge or the sender. If it was fuel pump issue, you'd likely have the engine cut out or popping and/or CELs
whiteout Report post Posted February 20, 2017 I'm guessing sender. My first check would be the connections and ground because it sounds intermittent.
trainwrex Report post Posted May 12, 2017 I have this issue also. The fuel light comes on and beeps when the tank is completely full. It goes away then reads correctly for awhile then comes back. Anyone have a picture they can send me to check? The car behaves normally except i have to keep an eye on how many km ive driven so i dont run out of fuel. Only mods is muffler delete RSC. Cheers, Tino
megachad Report post Posted May 12, 2017 Does the analog gauge in the car go below empty when you shut the car off? I had that issue on the black 2002. Long story but this was my issue. When trying to keep the batwings up, you switch the ignition off and then turn off the main battery switch before the wings go down. If you do it too quickly an issue can arise..Somehow my analog fuel gauge decided empty was wayyyyy below the empty line and full was about the empty line..Luckily after leaving the car sit for a bit with the main supply off, when i turned it back on the fuel gauge went back to the correct setting. I doubt this is your issue, but just so anyone knows wait just a split second longer if you are trying to keep the wings up. rushdriven Report post Posted May 13, 2017 I had a problem with one after the fuel tank recall. Needle would show full even after approx. 100+ miles driven. Then down around 1/4 I was concerned it had less gas than it was showing... Needless to say I didn't let it fall much below 1/4 or maybe stretched to an 1/8 tank. This issue occurred pnly about 1yr ago. The fuel gauge just shows above empty. Happened not long after I replaced the exhaust, not sure if that's a co-incidence. Might have to take it in to the dealer..
