Placid Report post Posted July 25, 2015 The Tesla is so sick from the dig. I wonder how it would perform with a gearbox, but why complicate things!
derphurf Report post Posted July 25, 2015 The gearbox would not be able to handle that torque. Tesla tried to make a two speed if I recall correctly but failed to make it last

TurboGallardo Report post Posted July 26, 2015 The Tesla is an absolute animal off the line, but then seems to fall flat on its face. (Relatively speaking.) Still, very impressive for a big heavy sedan.
Kisco Report post Posted July 26, 2015 Fikse, do you think the 650 is worth the premium over the 12C with a tune? I've been contemplating these two recently just not sure which way to go between a tuned 12C or a 650. Also, how reliable are these cars from an electrical / mechanical perspective? How many miles did you put on your 12C and did you have any issues? That's what's holding me back from a McLaren….the fact that the closest dealership from me is in Chicago, 500 miles away. Can't wait to get my hands on the Regera.... a new dawn is about to hit... combo of torque of e-cars and power for days! FikseSTS Report post Posted July 26, 2015 from a straight performance perspective, probably not... a 12C with a tune and 650S is close for sure.. probably a slight edge to a tuned 12C. ASS said there isn't much to gain with tuning a 650S... there are a lot of nice refinements in the 650S, transmission shifting is quicker (ignition cut shifting or something), handling/suspension updates, obviously looks more aggressive and exotic, comes with warranty and the speed... I had an early 12C, #199 and had no mechanical issues... dealer replaced my headlights for condensation and the interior LED screens for the climate control as they were dim, that's it. I had my car about 30 months and put 5k miles on it... Fikse, do you think the 650 is worth the premium over the 12C with a tune? Placid Report post Posted August 4, 2015 Just ordered a 90D myself. It's just as fast as my P85+, which is plenty for a DD IMO. This is the P85D data from another forum, 0-31 mph in less than 7 meters!

Fadi, friend of mine here locally has a 12c with the A^M^S tune and its very quick. I have never driven in it but have been passenger and its slightly faster than a FBO E85 GTR

They are very reliable cars. I had zero issues with mine. It's really hard to justify the price jump to the 650s when the MP4-12c's are such a phenomenal deal right now. But it's an individual choice on aesthetics and warranty. It is possible to purchase an extended manufacturer warranty. If you wait, the 650s will drop. McLaren has fab cars but no sense when it comes to new model releases and are dissolving the value through their launch strategy. The upside is the cars are solid, the service and support from McLaren is superb... they just keep pushing too many new models out for the old to hold value. A lot of great deals to be had and shouldn't be looked at as a negative inference regarding the cars performance... the car is a true super car without the high maintenance drama of a Ferrari or Lamborghini.
