The Performante encounter...

I was avoiding this day but eventually the inevitable had to happen LOL

Today I had to deliver the SV to the dealer so they can ship it interstate for me so I can attend a Lamborghini organised driving event so I ended up picking up the Performante demo which was sitting in their showroom.

My brother order a Performante already so I thought I will take the car, grab my brother and go for a proper test drive.

After I jumped in it immediately felt like home, it feels so much smaller than my SV, after only a few hundred meters I knew that this car is very special and I couldn't wait to experience more.

When I parked in front of my brother’s house and jumped out of the car I realised how well Grigio Titans matched the color scheme of his house so I had to take a photo., I will attempt to attach the photo but we all know how well this forum works when it comes to adding photos :eusa_wall:

We drove the car for 3 to 4 hours almost nonstop, it was around lunch time and I was starving but my brother refused to stop LOL eventually he had to.

I drove first, took the car to some of my favourite spots, I can say that I ABSOLUTELY love it, LOOOVE IT!!!

I have no words to actually describe it, the only thing I can say, whomever is remotely interested should test drive this car, you are doing yourself a major disservice if you don’t, go to your dealer now!

In everyday regular traffic on highways etc. it’s not that much different from the regular standard H, so if you are familiar with the regular H don’t waste your time test driving it in the city, head straight towards the mountains or your local race track.

In Strada it is extremely compliant just as the standard H, yes the bark from the exhaust is sharper and louder, the gear changes feel sharper, crisper and faster, the suspension in Corsa is brutal in particular on rougher roads but as I hinted above where this car shines is on the twisties, long sweeping corners, sharp turns, corners and more corners!

It truly defies belief, I can not explain how the car does what it does, no street car which you can just order from your local dealer should handle like this, it is absolutely incredible, I personally have never experienced anything like it in any car I’ve driven before.

The steering is so damn good, it’s delicious, I still can not believe the car can go so fast around corners without any hint of under or oversteer, it literally handles as if it were on rails or glued to the road.

I always like to go as far away as possible from civilization so we drove it on some pretty average roads and to my surprise it didn’t bottom out not even once, it’s set up perfectly, some might want to play with the ride height for looks etc. if the roads you drive on are very flat and smooth you might be ok but I would not touch a thing on this car, it’s set up perfectly, I wouldn’t even touch the exhaust, unless Lambo brings a race one.

The factory exhaust sounds so crisp and they dialled out those overrun popping sounds which I never like on the standard Huracan, this one just barks on downshift, love that sound.

I now understand why and how this car smashed the Nurburgring record held by the 918, I’ve been in a 918 as a passenger with a friend whom I must say is a very good driver, don’t get me wrong the 918 is a phenomenal car but I did not feel the surge of instantaneous power coming out of corners that you feel in the Performante even as a passenger, the Performante explodes out of corners, that NA V10 power plant is pure perfection, it will be a sad day when they will kill it with a set of turbos.

The 918 takes just a tad longer to wind up until all hell breaks loose, I believe that’s where the P got it, nevertheless I love the 918, absolutely stunning car and my friend is so damn lucky to own one!

The brakes are phenomenal, we drove the car for 3 hours nonstop, the brakes showed no signs of fade, never had to grab them twice, unbelievable, the car feels rock solid, no flexing or twisting irrespective of how crappy the roads were and in the middle of the bush majority of the roads are crappy.

The build quality is fantastic, no squeaks, creeks or rattles, I know it’s a new car and it shouldn’t do any of those things but I am referring to when the car is subjected to severe punishment on crappy B roads, it feels as solid as if it were carved out of a solid block.

Also the race seats are just fantastic, I honestly don’t understand why people are complaining about them, soft cocks I say LOL, having said that I can see how they might not work if you are very tall or on the heavy side.

Are there faster cars out there?

Off course there are and that will always be the case but for me based on the type of driving I enjoy that’s quite irrelevant, in most performance cars nowadays you will always have to be in going to jail for a long time speed territory before you get to have any significant amount of fun, in today’s heavy policed world where do-gooders are hell bent on sucking the life out of everything that’s remotely fun that’s not ideal.

Don’t get me wrong the Performante is a blindingly fast car but at the same time it is quite the opposite to the cars I described above because it handles and brakes so damn good and just explodes out of corners that you get to have fun at relatively low speeds, it goes around the corners so fast that you don’t have to be in triple digits to have the time of your life.

The other thing this car does for you, magically increases your driving skills and abilities, it makes you feel like the Supreme Leader, God damn invincible LOL

Sooo needless to say because I enjoy feeling like the Supreme Leader when I arrived back at the dealer to VERY reluctantly hand back the keys I said:

I will have one thank you very much!

Now the dreaded comparison with the SV as some of you already now I am a huge V10 fan, I always prefer the smaller nimbler feel of the smaller cars so the Performante is the perfect car for me it suits me and my driving style perfectly but….

The SV is something else, the SV is the big beast, before I owned one I didn’t understand the black magic behind the V12 but now I get it, for me the Aventador SV is the ultimate exotic, it’s rough, it’s loud, obnoxious, aggressive looking, quirky, has a bunch of tiny annoying faults which come with hand build old school cars and it has a special aura about it, it has the it factor! I can not get sick of looking at while parked inside my house, for us it’s a piece of art as much as it is a fun ride.

Where the Performante feels like the hyper overachiever shouting look at me, look at what I can do, running around in circles showing off its bags of tricks the SV is just COOL calm and collected, James Bond cool, strolling towards the cows in the paddock LOL

Performance wise the SV is not at the same level, I am not talking straight-line quarter mile where the two would be fairly similar I guess, I wouldn’t use those metrics to compare any exotics since none of these cars are designed to be drag racing cars, as I said above at relatively low speeds the Performante was astonishingly fun so just because in straight line some other car is faster that would mean nothing to me really, hell the GT4 is the slowest car I own and I still prefer it over a lot of the much faster cars out there.

When I compare the performance in between the A SV and the H P I am referring to on race track or road course performance, based on the short time I spent with the H P I could tell that IMO they are in different classes at different levels, the difference is quite evident.

The SV gearbox is the biggest culprit IMO, it’s the weakest link, perfect example is the Performante box, it’s one of the best boxes Ive ever experienced and it’s FUN, I never understood when some people said that the single clutch delivers a more involving emotional experience, that’s pure PR BS propaganda LOL, you want emotional experience downshift the H P from 4th to 3rd punch it hard and prepare to change your underpants, it’s a hair raising experience, trust me there is a lot of emotion there.

The SV needs a better box full stop everything else about the car is perfect, put a DCT in that beast and you will bring it to the top of the food chain where it belongs.

As for which one is better, they are both amazing in their own way, it’s like asking me to chose between my kids I could NEVER do that LOL.

These cars shouldn’t be compared using metrics no exotics should be compared using metrics and stats, very often you hear online “experts” who never drove or even set foot in these cars telling you everything there is to know about them based on what they read, analysed and dissected on the net LOL, what a waste of God damn time and space listening to them is

When you experience these cars there is something almost intangible which you can’t quantify, it’s how something makes you feel so for that reason I am not comparing the SV with the Performante using metrics they both give me a tremendous amount of satisfaction, one is akin to a sledgehammer and the other is a highly precise surgical instrument.

They are both fantastic and equally as fun for different reasons and for now I will keep them both until some other exciting ride comes along.

I am not a car collector, I don’t want to maintain a fleet of cars, make sure they are on tenders, tires are not flat, wash them etc. does my head in LOL so eventually I will sell them and move on to the next best thing but one thing I can say, I am not looking forward to that day when I will have to put the SV on the chopping block, it will be a sad day :(

Sorry for the scattered and very long write up, short version, I love the Performante it is God damn UNBELIEVABLE go and buy one if you can and also I still love the SV!

I now need help selecting a color for the Performante! :turboalex:

So do you like the car? :icon_mrgreen:

I think that was your longest post ever on this forum. Coming from your ownership experiences of other bulls and your awesome European trip to which its driving experience should still be fresh, it sounds like Lamborghini has hit this one way out of the park.

I told you my colour preferences already. ;)

If I had this car during my Euro trip rather than the crappy 911 I would’ve bought a caravan parked it at the bottom of Stelvio Pass burn my passport so I could never leave Europe again.

I like your color choices as usual now I just have to master the courage LOL

Parsifae is THE color for the P when my brother ordered his he wanted yellow but after a bit of hard work I convinced him to go Parsifae now he would kill me if I did the same. LOL

Never been a fan of Verde Ithaca/Singh I like darker greens.

His house is fantastic did a very good job on it.

Since you talked your brother out of it, maybe a shade of yellow. You could do yellow with Cepheus calipers. Kind of an inverse take on your SV. Maybe a pearl or matte tone for the paint. The matte grey has really grown on me too. A few different brake calipers would go with that—red comes to mind. Decisions!

BTW, great review. Makes me more as excited as delivery day approaches.

I decided on the color combo, the order will be locked tomorrow, I had my trusty accomplice help me :eusa_dance: the only person I need to get hold of is Lambo Cars.

When is yours being delivered ?

Congrats Fortis! Very excited for you!! Your awesome garage will be even better!

As you know I’m a fan of the GT4 but I also know it would pale in comparison to the Performante! For your tastes and purposes (if I may be so presumptive) — the Performante seems perfect!

Looking forward to more pics and impressions once in your possession!
