Porsche CGT prices

Been watching cars sitting with prices in the 650 to 850k range for a good six months with nothing selling. I know of an 04, with 7k miles that after asking 660k just sold for 520k... Any ideas where that would place the values of a car with say 15 to 20k miles? or even higher?

Only 7K miles? Wow! What color was it? I've been watching the CGT market for quite sometime along with many other exotics since I was 13. (I'm now 25). If I had to make a guess, I would say that little to nobody will let a CGT go for below $500K. If by chance one did publicly go for below that amount, I think the whole market would take a hit. Not to say that none have recently sold below $500K. The CGT market is so weird. Nobody it trying to flip them. They're the most badass production Porsche of all time yet the price is not what you would think it would be at.

IMO I partially blame the bad stigma of the whole Paul Walker deal, and the fact that any time I hear them brought up in convo it's always "Blah Blah Blah Clutch Pedal Weird." "Blah Blah Blah No Traction Control. Too much horsepower, not safe."

I know there is one for sale for 1 point something million dollars, but it's believed to be the only one made in Lamborghini Arancio Borealis and only has 250 miles. Still not worth it, IMO. If you really wanted to and the seller was willing, I think you could probably get one for $480,000

EDIT: I recently saw I think on Chat someone selling a car with A LOT of miles, like 50K or something.

I've been watching prices since I sold the one I had back in '08 for $253! There's more on the market now than I can remember over the last few years with prices of even the rarest colors dropping. I see the $400k cgt in the near future. It seems as the air is being let out of the over inflated Porsche bubble.

I hope you are right. That is one car I let get away.

Porsche basically made a 600 horsepower Elise, sans the unboosted steering.

That in itself makes it worth a lot of money.

That stigma you talk about of the Paul Walker, is very much a USA only thing. Never gets mentioned with any enthusiasts I constantly talk with over here in Europe. The clutch thing is also not a big factor at all, as almost everyone now understands how it should be used (without any revs, to actually get going from standstill).

I keep a very close eye on the CGT market as I would love one, at the correct price. For me two big factors as to why they have and will not shout up madly is because they are abundant, 1,270 pieces: and secondly, because they are very tame (boring?) to look at. There is no real lineage to speak of. It was the first of its kind, and now finally there is a 918 to add a second car to the Porsche supercar lineage (please do not try bring in the 959!).

i beg to differ on lineage. The 959 "Gruppe B", in its day, showcased technology that was ground breaking in most every category. While i respect your subjective opinion on looks, The CGT is far from boring to look at. quietly confident, a sexy beast wrapped in carbon skin.

Let's not forget Porsche ended production early because they were having trouble selling them. Boring to look at? I don't agree. Remember when I had mine, alan made fun of me and Alex for having "Boxsters".

I don't agree here either, to me the car was a direct descendant of the 910, 917 etc.

Exactly, they look like Boxsters.

As said before, I still very much want one. It will be my next supercar purchase (maybe a SE30 first). But put it next to any Lamborghini, and the CGT will disappear. I love it, due to what is under the skin, but many of those with the cash, buying supercars also want the looks.

Not everyone who buys exotics needs to be the center of attention.

There are people who dislike Lambos simply because they are too attention getting.

As for the CGT, it may look like a Boxster but a Boxster without a huge body kit never had such road presence.

Most similar car to a CGT is an F50, which also gets knocked for its looks as well. But that's another car that is a real driver's car for the hardcore driving crowd.

:iamwithstupid: It may resemble a boxster to the uneducated, but when you start it up and that thing wails like an F1 car, everyone turns to look.

Couldn't the same 'boring' argument be made for a lot of the Patek watches? Most aren't as flashy as an iced out platinum rolex masterpiece, but they could easily be 20x the price. Not everything is meant to appeal to the masses, just those that know what they want.

Yes, agree. In fact watches shouldn't be flashy, but that's just me.

I fully concur and like that rationale a lot. Another case in point is neither a Veyron nor a Chiron looks flashy by any means. The Veyron may even be termed as "ordinary" looking with its soft, rounded lines. But look at one in real life and you definitely see the inner beauty and the superb craftsmanship that lie within.

And what about silver/black boxes that look like cages with ancient-looking tubes inside? :icon_mrgreen: You know what I am saying...of course. :)

Ha... yea back in the day I could of bought a CGT for less than what I paid for my SLR... Today Id love a CGT, and not soo much an SLR. I think the CGT looks great, but on group outings they certainly get no attention next to the Lambos.

Even better. Low key and 99% of the general public think it's a $20k Boxster, sounds perfect. That's how I got away with buying my fgt, I told my wife it was a $45k ford that I was replacing my murci with. Worked fine till she found the window sticker.

I agree. I try not to take my cars anywhere where Ill get mobbed by people. No car shows, restaurants etc. I go for a drive in the canyons, then back home, preferably on a Tuesday afternoon when no one is around.

Right now, if I had to choose one upper priced supercar to keep, it would be a CGT. Low priced.. Testarossa.

Same here, luckily prices for both are settling down.

Im hoping winter time

The cars with >10k miles don't seem to sell. I wonder what wholesale is on a silver car is with between 10 to 20k miles.

Have you guys noticed silver cars seem to have the most unreasonable asking prices now?

I'm curious how much the prices will correct as "everyone" says they are waiting for one once prices come down.

Its not about being the centre of attention, its about what my eyes see, and then how my heart reacts. I could stare at the beautiful extravagant yet balanced aggression of my LP670SV all day long, without even starting it up. It is a car I literally have a poster of. A CGT I've never even had as a wallpaper. Drive the Lambo around in Switzerland you get a few looks, but nothing special. Drive it in Italy, and people go absolutely nuts. I do love to share the car with the Italians, for that reason. They love the Bulls, but could care less about who drives it. I think its quite different than how people of most other countries react.

F50 is my dream Ferrari, but since I don't fit (I've tried) it has been out of my dreams since that day.

I fully agree the CGT must be the ultimate driver's car, and that is why I want one badly. But I would never sell my manual LP670SV to by a CGT.

How many times are you on the limit, able to really feel and exploit the feel, balance, and lightweight, on the public roads, compared to the time you hear the engine, and see the car with your eyes?

Definitely agree that the beauty lies under the skin, within. A race car for the road. Stunning piece of engineering.

I'm sitting on my hands for now - will be back in one within 12 months. There is no better car in the world to me.
