Lamborghini is set to announce a limited-edition model to customers shortly, which will showcase a number of new techologies for the brand.

Speaking exclusively with CarAdvice at the 2017 Frankfurt motor show, director of research and development for Lamborghini, Maurizio Reggiani said that this ‘one-off’ model is likely to be sold out by the time it’s revealed.

“Soon we will present to our most important customers a new version of what we call a one-off. For us a one-off is a small number of cars where we make scouting of a new design trend, like we did with the Centenario and not only that, we introduce some new technology,” Reggiani said.

“It was also the case with the Centenario where we revealed rear-wheel steering that came into production [with the Aventador S]. We will announce it with our loyal customers that wait for this, we don’t need to do more, we arrive at the motor show and the production is already sold out.”

“We did it with the Reventon, the Reventon Roadster, the Concept J, Veneno Roadster, Sesto Elemento, it’s something of the perception we will land on,” Reggiani added.

While Reggiani wouldn’t be drawn on exact details, we do know the Urus will be revealed in early December. The one-off is likely to be announced to customers later this year and shown to the public alongside the Urus at the Geneva motor show in March 2018.

Like the Centenario, the one-off is expected to pave the way for future Lamborghini design, potentially showing an idea of what the Aventador replacement will look like, which is due to be released around 2020.

We know that the Urus will use hybrid drivetrain technology and the one-off could be a sample of how hybrid technology would interact with Lamborghini’s naturally-aspirated V12 and V10 engines.

When quizzed about whether Lamborghini will do a Mercedes-AMG Project One-esque hypercar, Reggiani insisted that Lamborghini was first and won’t be a follower.

“Lamborghini first of all was the one that invented this kind of car with the Reventon around 10 years ago, more or less. We are the ones that did this. For this reason we are not the followers with this,” Reggiani said.

I sure hope they really do something special. When you have the level of cars being produced currently, the days of putting a body kit on a car and charging 5X the price are over. They may have very well been the first to do this sort of car, but I will say they are no longer the best.

Come on Lamborghini...come up with something that will blow the car world away!

CAn't wait to see what this is. Hopefully it gives us some insight into the replacement of the Aventador.

The Veneno (Roadster) and Centenario (Roadster) were basically that^^. At least they look super exotic and like there worth a lot, but lets be honest apart from the limited numbers there is nothing super special about them unfortunately

I would love to see a modern revision of the Espada. Take the old curves, transform to new curves, new v12, some interesting creature comforts and retake on the old interior and still stylish and gorgeous. Something smooth and elegant, still low to the ground and gorgeous, with a ton of power for cruising and the beautiful hum of a v12 still. Kind of like what Porsche did with the Panamera, which basically feels like a modern day 928.

I am of the opinion that there are two buyers for these cars, and potentially they overlap.

1) More money than sense

2) Lazy

I believe Jim Glickenhaus (sp) spent only 1-2M creating P4/5 on top of the cost of an Enzo. Ferrari will create you custom designed cars for 2-3M so long as they fit into a current model's underlying platform. McLaren has also done one-off custom designs in the past for a few million and will be selling a very unique 3-seater 100+ volume car that will no doubt offer a very unique experience and high-end performance. Mercedes and AM are selling LMP/F1 technology derived cars for 2-3M that no Lamborghini could ever dream of coming close to.

Outside of the two above possibilities, why else would someone pay so much for something that they have almost no input on other than a few colors and which offers nothing of technological note?

Lamborghini talks up RWS, a seemingly trivial technology that has been standard on far lesser car for some time now and which every S will have standard just a couple months after you take delivery of your C. Mercedes and AM will give you wild, LMP derived cars with an F1 derived 1.6L Turbo mated to a hybrid system, or aero dynamics and weight savings that would indicate an open-wheel racer more than any road car ever made.

Lamborghini one-offs are among the worst possible modern cars you could ever buy at those prices. They offer next to nothing.

Chiron, LF, 918, P1, Mercedes One, AM RB-001, and just about all the successors to these are far more deserving of the prices they command. This $2-3M one-off Aventador will probably be outclassed in every way by a 720S or Performante.

Give us a Sesto style Aventador exterior over the Aventador SV 2.0 prototype engine and suspension :icon_mrgreen:

I suppose it all depends on the price. But I also agree that if it's at least 4X the cost of an Aventador, I would expect more than just a rebodied AV + a tune to add 20hp. And if it is more than 4X the price of an AV, then it would be silly not to consider the Chiron.

When you think about it what can Lamborghini introduce that will really push the limit?? IMHO For Lamborghini that would have to be hybrid technology.

But how can they compete with literally F1 tech at the same pricepoint? Mercedes put 1 billion dollars in development into that engine.

That and they look like shit.

I like the Veneno, although at its price point its ridiculous. The Centenario on the other hand is absolute dog shit.

The fresh kind too.... not the dried up shit that is easy to clean up.

Please not another rebodied Aventador, come up with something new and creative.

How about 3 million for Urus with gazillion huge ass wings? :D (And spiced up VW V6 turbodiesel)

Honestly I really hope it is something or anything other than these +20hp and hot wheels bodykits...

Even if it is a beach buggy, it is way better than centenario.

Do we know if they have any relationship going on with Rimac? If so, they may be ready to test some E-technology. Would definitely take things in a weird, but futuristic direction!
