$12k... bullshit.

Hose is ~$150 and chances are you can do this yourself with some common hand tools. Looks like about $1k to have all 12 of the hydraulic cylinders rebuilt if needed.

Another option is just remove the existing hose and take it to a commercial hydraulic hose shop, they are all over.

Take it in there (or any place similar), and let them build you a replacement. They will give you a complete replacement part, pressure tested and ready to rock.

This is fantastic. Thank you so much! It is one or several of the actual hoses that has ruptured.

It's a total of 20 hoses that run all the way through the car. Repair requires the removal of the entirety of the interior. Also, there are no schematics available and Bentley no longer makes several of the hoses. I wish I knew more about what was actually going on so that I could call BS ... it does all seem a bit ridiculous.

Check AllDataDIY.com. They've helped me a ton on diagnosing and fixing issues with the S8. If you have one bad hose and can get it made locally (hydraulics are hydraulics here and the fitting is about as crazy as it will get) the manual might help point you in the right direction.

Also, at least I am not one of the douche nozzles that say they want to do something, ask for advice and then don't act.!

I like how you stuck to your guns going against the grain. Sometimes you cannot override the gut and that's ok.

Congrats on the Azure....looks great.

Best of luck in getting your hoses/top fixed!

Thanks. At least the top is stuck down and I can enjoy the car this summer even if I choose to defer the fix until the winter.

I will admit that I acted a bit impulsively and, in the future, will be doing PPIs.

Truthfully, if it's that much work to get to everything, I would just order the kit and replace them all. I have no connection to this place at all, but they are doing exactly what I would, use MUCH better lines than the OEM and never have to worry about it ever again.

$3k to replace every hydraulic hose in the car.

Removing the seats and interior panels will be a chore, but i'm assuming not technically difficult. Like Hannibal said, there is nothing special about hydraulic hoses, be it for your top, brake lines, power steering, etc. So long as they use the proper tubing for the type of fluid being pumped, and it has adequate burst pressure, all is well. Just stay away from the fancy steel braided stuff only because it's noisy.

  • 2 weeks later...

was that 12K from an independent shop or from an authorized dealer? I know we have at least 1 if not 2 local independent rolls guys here in cincy and I would imagine they would be significantly cheaper. When I was in high school, I was a lot tech for the local rolls and Bentley dealer and remember some of the outrageous prices they charged (like $2000 for a cracked tail light cover)....

I was at the local BMW dealer the other day. And they wanted $374 to exchange a light bulb in my tail light. Completely rediculous!

The quote was from an independent.

Also, DO NOT EVER BUY A CAR FROM CHARIOTS OF PALM BEACH!

This has been a disaster and I will wait to post about the experience until after I get clear of any potential legal scenarios.
