Pre-LP Gallardo Intake

I made a new intake for the pre-LP G after seeing the results of the LP and Huracan with intake modifications. A LP member let me use his car to get some before/after dyno figures and there is a very noticeable power gain.

 

The Reid Performance Intake replaces the restrictive factory air intake system with a smooth intake design and K&N cone air filters are placed directly next to the factory fresh air ducts which reduces air turbulence and allows the engine to ingest more air volume. The K&N filters are protected by K&N DryChargers to prevent moisture and dirt from contaminating the filter. The RP Intake design and material prevents heat soak like the original intake system and many aftermarket systems, this results in a colder air charge to the engine.

 

As a result, the RP intake has instant throttle response; reduced weight; reduced heat soak; greatly amplifies the engine's intake acoustics and power gains.

 

2008 Gallardo on 91 octane, 75 fahrenheit ambient temperature, Mustang dynamometer:

 

Power gains from 3500rpm to redline

25 wheel horsepower and 15 wheel torque gains at 7000rpm

 

Peak Horsepower gain 23 wheel horsepower

Peak Torque gain 13 wheel torque

 

Pie Cut Stainless Steel (pictured) or wrinkle finish powder coat: $1,500.00

Pie Cut Titanium: $2,500.00

Looks great with nice results, well done :icon_thumleft:

 

 

Maybe a next future purchase, they will look nice painted in the wrinkle finish.

 

 

Did the car have any other mods i.e. exhaust system, de cat pipes etc.

Good gains and obviously a better layout, a question though. Would it make more sense and possibly more gains if you used a proper pipe bender that keeps the radius, rather than 13 visible welds? Smother pipe, better air flow? Less labor, cheaper product.

Thank you! The current round of intakes being fabricated are going to have the wrinkle finish. I'll post up some pictures of them when they are back from the coating shop.

 

Car had a Larini muffler and Raging Bull tune. The stock airbox had K&N drop in filters.

 

Here is the Murci intake in titanium, it shows the visible difference compared to stainless steel:

Do you have pictures of the filter in the side panel? I imagine that is fairly small right?

The filters are a decent size and make the most of the space in the fenders. Here's the filter and DryCharger installed:

The fabricator ensures that each pie cut is smooth inside, so the difference between this and bent tube would be minimal. You're correct, it would be cheaper for production to use bent tube vs. pie cut and my fabricator's life would be much easier. However, literally every Gallardo owner I spoke with about the intake preferred the pie cut design to bent tube and personally I do too, hence the pie cut won for production. With the filters being a decent size, do the arch wheel liners need to be modified in anyway to make them fit, or are they completely hidden like the original.

 

 

Look forward to seeing the wrinkle finished versions, and can this mod be used as a direct replacement or is a road tune on the dyno required.

There is no need to modify the wheel arches and the intakes are completely hidden like the original.

If I remember correctly, there is a plenum that redirects air from the fender vent directly to the intake ducts seen in your pictures. Can you post what factory parts need to be removed in order for the K&N filter to clear?
