Emergency spillway opened for first time in dams history. Hole developed in emergency spillway.

Emergency spillway expected to fail within hour.

Hwy 70- runs parralel to feather river- jammed. Both sides of hwy rerouted south bound.

A failure of spillway would result in 30 vertical feet of water below damn.

A failure of the dam itself would be catastrophic.

Emergency spillway has developed a hole which was eroding back towards the dam.

controlled release through main spillway at 100,000 cfm. emergency spillway unknown. river capacity 200,000 cfm.

And instead of fixing things like this, we spend eleventy billion on a fcuking train.

Calexit.... right, as brown looks to the feds for $160m due to rain "disaster"

I hope they get it drained safely, but this doesnt look good.

Was over there the other day. It's fcuking insane. There are 40 foot and above height trees that are completely under water. Some of the roads are flooded. It's good that Cali has gotten the rain, but for goodness sake. I hope everyone makes it out okay.

Dude. I had no idea how bad the fight between the liberals and the farmers over the water because of the stupid fish here was until I got here two weeks ago.

FEMA deploying 750 beavers in the area, last ditch effort.

Did they round up all the actresses from the porn convention?

These storms are in roughly 10 year cycles, el nino and el nina...ive been through a few, after each cycle some remember..most don't as they are to worried telling everyone how humans are in charge of nature..and the weather cycle returns to drought and fires...and the floods are soon forgotten as well as fixing dams, levees, culverts..roads..mitigating against mudslides, avalances and such...and cycle continues..

Spending time worrying about sanctuary cities, water tunnels for the south, and trains to no where seem to be the norm, instead of taking care of what is there..

I feel sorry for the ratepayers and agencies including the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, which provides water to 19 million people in Los Angeles, San Diego and other areas, along with the State Water Contractors, an association of 27 agencies that buy water from the state of California through the State Water Project. The association includes the Metropolitan Water District, Kern County Water Agency, the Santa Clara Valley Water District and the Alameda County Water District.

These people will be paying for these repairs....good luck with that.

There hasn't been a shortage of water, but poor usage with local ratepayers subsidizing the farmers..growing rice in a desert, corn, alfalfa, and other water thirsty crops shouldn't happen...but the farm lobby is strong...

Ok ill get off my soapbox and my 2c..

I have friends evacuated..id be pissed if it were me...

The levee system up there almost failed winter 96/97.

The whole thing is incomprehensible. Even in the worst of times SoCal gets more than enough rain to sustain its water needs, if we were allowed to make even half ass attempts to capture it. But we can't, we have to let it run out into the ocean.

And these same batch of assholes think it's a viable solution to build a gazillion dollar desalinization plant, because that's what you want to look at on the coast. All the while completely ignoring our summertime energy shortages and the unimaginable amounts of energy required to run that plant. And this is after they closed down the nuclear power plants, further reducing our supply of clean energy. So we're relegated to fueling this whole unnecessary clusterfuck with coal or NG... :eusa_wall:

Oh, did I mention they are trying to raise gas taxes and vehicle registrations... TO PAY FOR PUBLIC EMPLOYEE PENSIONS! While Ignoring massively crumbling existing infrastructure and budgeting $67 BILLION DOLLARS (of borrowed money) on the bullet train to nowhere.

The way this state operates, it makes the $1B obamacare website seem like a bargain.

Oh back to the damn... starting Thursday, the whole area is expecting about 6" of rain over the next 7 days.

Have you guys seen how huge this spillway is? Its hard to appreciate it until you see some people in it.

Borderline suicide mission. Ton of erosion on the right, outside the spillway.
