REAR FOG LIGHTS

As everyone probably knows, the inside red tail light (rear fog light) does not light up on American cars. Even though there is a bulb behind the lens, it doesn't light up.

Has anyone addressed this so that the red light will come on when the headlight switch it turned on ????

Thanks, Alan

BMW does the some thing similar, they put in a blank button that doesn't move where the euro fog button would be. It all fully functions, you just need to remove the headlight switch assembly and cut a couple of pieces of plastic that hold the blank in place and you have a function fog light. I wonder if it is something similar on the Murci. Cheaper to add everything in and disable as necessary than to make different components for different markets.

Not sure I want to try and dissemble the headlight switch assy (in the steering column) . I'll probably just take the tail light out and add a 12v wire to the inoperative bulb.

If it's one of those really bright fog lights, it would be really inconsiderate for you to leave that on whenever the headlights are on. The fog light bulbs are usually very bright and on clear nights, I would personally feel the desire to run into the back of your Lambo with an old garbage truck if you always had it on.

You should find a way to wire it to a switch, and that's not as hard as you might think. They have little units with remote controls for other lights like LED accent lighting which are very low cost and it's very easy to work in that area to put such a unit and then turn them on and off as needed with the remote in the cabin.

Something like this:

How can they be brighter, they're the same bulb number as the others ??

If it's the same bulb, then why do you need fog lights? Fog lights are supposed to be piercing in brightness so cars see you though the fog, snow or heavy rain. If not, they are not fog lights.

Here's a good example of a fog light, look at the last pic at the bottom:

I'm not a fan of the rear fog on any car. Since we aren't used to it here in the US, when it is on, it makes it appear that you have a tail light out on the other side.

I had them on my cars when I was in England, they work well in fog and snow but as stimpy says are blinding when it is clear, I think I remember that you could get pulled over for having them on when conditions didn't warrant them.
