Hi Mike and Leo and Sunir and forum members,

It has been suggested that this should be a separate thread, So here it is:)

Well I have just found out what speed I can hit in an extra 290 yards over the 800 yards standing start!

I can report as the other 'old guy with the lambo' that in 1000 metres running on MS109,my UR stage3 with race heads- 1275rwhp hit 203.3 mph in 1,090 yards with best time of 18.2 seconds:eusa_dance:

I worked out that at say 198 mph for the standing start half mile, car is travelling at the 800 yd mark at 100 yds/sec.

So have an extra 3 seconds of acceleration time till hit the 1000 metre (1090 yds)

I couldn't go any faster than 203 mph as was on the oem factory rev limiter at 8,410 rpm in oem 6th gear a 100 metres before the finish line :eusa_think:

If I could increase that oem 6th gear rev limit to the oem 3rd gear rev limit of 8,650 rpm, then 336kph (209 mph) might be achievable over the 1000 metres, perhaps.

This 203 mph speed was achieved at the Snowy Mountains 1000 event run on the Cooma Airport 2,100 metre (1.3 miles) runway on 26 November 2016. That braking section of 1000 yards was quite comforting given the barriers at the end of the runway- eek!

I was quite impressed with the performance of my little ole street car as allowed me to exceed the 200mph mark in a little over a half mile from a standing start.

I ran 3rd highest speed outright, 1st fastest and highest speed in 10 cylinder class and unofficially highest speed for street legal car and driven to the event- a distance of 3,500kms ( 2,170 miles) :eek3dance:

Fastest outright cars were first, an 8 second qtr mile stripped out gtr35 with 1400rwhp- 208mph, second a 9 second quarter mile Monaro/Pontiac GTO big block twin turbo-1500rwhp- 205 mph.

The 'big hitters' as we were called by the event announcer, at least by aussie standards, were all trailered to the event except me icon_thumleft.gif

The event was great fun and all the competitors especially chris and eddie- first and second, were great, acting in the spirit of the event. Have fun and give the spectators a great show on the runway and in the pit area.

After my first session, the highest speed for the first session, a bystander asked where my support crew was. I replied you are looking at it!

The presence of the only UR lambo in Australia at the event aroused much interest.

This can be seen in the full event highlights youtube video starting at 3:38.

The e-gear shifts were very quick for an egear, I thought as I was running the zeuss tcu program upgrade.

The event organisers also put up a video on their facebook page on the lambo with interview and in car footage.

see December 15 face book post video and comments.

https://www.facebook.com/SnowyMountains1000/

I have become a legend in my own mind or is that lunchtime:)

The car ran faultlessly on the way to the event, at the event and on the continuing drive canyon carving through the snowy mountains roads to Melbourne, then around Tasmania with the Lamborghini Club of Australia tour on the Targa canyon carving road sections and then back to Melbourne and then back home to Perth.

I covered 11,300 kms (7,020 miles) in 30 days, and destroyed two sets of R888 rear tyres before switched to road tyres. :crybaby2:

I give you the big tip, R888 tyres are not long wearing daily driver tyres, as both rear sets only lasted 3,100kms (2,000 miles) each, but that's another story!

Also a bit tricky to drive on in the wet, especially with standing water lying around!!

The performance of the lambo and also very importantly its reliability was a tribute to the engineering and set up of the engine, clutch and TT's by Kevin,KC and the team.

No problems with the UR clutch setup. Different story with the Spec clutch previously on last attempt to travel to the event a couple of years back.

I love this UR car!

I can truly say, don't be afraid to drive your UR lambo as a daily driver/tourer.

just my two cents worth,

cheers,

john

John,

I think you gave us a lot more than "two cents worth" ...

Just curious ... How many miles have you put on the car since you picked it up from UGR???

7,000 miles in 30 days ... Wow ... That's getting some serious seat time ...

It's great to see you enjoying your car ... And ... Earning a podium spot in a true street car ...

Considering the only cars that beat you needed a "trailer" to get to and from the event ...

That’s a huge statement ... But that’s also why you sent your car to UGR ...

Nice to see ... Built In America ... Still means something ...

I always look forward to your posts ... Please keep them coming ...

Merry Christmas ... Looks like you got a pretty nice Christmas gift!!!

Hi Woosh,

thank you for your post and comments.

Since I picked up the car from UR on 13 November 2015, I have put on 18,000 miles and enjoyed every one of them :eek3dance:

As virtually all of my driving has been solo I have also listened to a ton of audio books while driving!

Exception was wifey driving the car for a couple of days around Tasmania. She could not understand the cars fearsome reputation as a power beast.

She said drove like stock, but then she only once went over 3,700rpm while in an overtaking lane and went from 60 mph to 100mph in about 2 seconds! Ooh, it is fast, she commented!

cheers,

john

Hi Leo,

I have ordered a full set of the R888R's front and rear for the forthcoming 400metre, 800 metre heads up rollons and solo 1000metre spring coming up in Albany, Western Australia on 4-6 March 2017.

I will have to practise my brake boosting. lol.

https://racewars.com.au/event

Event has a 1.8 km runway, so plenty of braking area!

I only have to drive just down the road from Perth for the event, 540 miles round trip there and back. lol.

Almost a trip just around the block, unlike the 7,000 mile round trip to compete in the November 2017 Snowy Mountains 1000metre event!

cheers,

john

Why choose the R888R's over the R888's???

Hi Woosh,

Here in Australia Toyo have stopped supplying R888's since midway through last year, at least in sizes 235x35x19 and 305x30x19.

I have managed to track down the last pair of R888's 305x30x19 in Australia at a discount tyre store and they are 2014 manufacture. However, I decided to run with the new R888R's to see how the rears perform as my LP is not a high power UR beast.

At the snowy mountains, I ran R888's on rear and R888R's on the front, as couldn't buy any R888's for the front!

I found at the strip the R888R front tyres didn't slip that I could tell.

Also when got back to Perth after 7,000 miles, the fronts were only half worn.

Over the same distance I managed to wear out to the steel cords two sets of rear R888's. On the last set, halfway across Australia, the left rear went flat on me as I had worn through the steel cords on the inside edge- the negative camber will do that for you! Luckily not at speed- only doing 70 mph. Then fitted Bridgestone Potenza RE055A on rear so I could get home.

Of course the greater wear at the rear could also be because 70% of the power/torque goes to the rear and only 30% to the front. Or maybe the R888R don't get as sticky as the R888 with use?

I didn't measure tyre temperatures at the event or on the road. But every time I drove over gravel , the rears picked it up big time and managed to destroy the lower most vents on the left rear wheel arch liner- the side closet to the edge of the road for us right hand drivers.

On the Toyo site and tire rack, the spiel claims R888R is a better tyre than its predecessor, I assume the R888.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?ti...el=Proxes+R888R

Continual development of the contact patch gives the Proxes R888R greater levels of dry traction for improved braking, acceleration and cornering versus its predecessor

It sure looks like a better wet weather tire as more grooves.

As for dry road/track traction, more rubber area in contact with the road on the R888, but sure very skaty - big pucker factor in standing water, I give you the big tip!! I believe the front R888R's gave me some semblance of directional stability on my road trip when it rained.

Is the R888R stickier on the dry track in half mile than the old R888, I will let you know.

just my two cents worth,

cheers,

john

Hello John,

Nice! Good luck! When are you sending your car back to the US for another UGR upgrade? 2R manual maybe?

I need to visit that place once day!

Hi Kevin,

Australia is a very nice place to visit, but I am biased :icon_thumleft:

and we do speak a form of English. lol.

However our half mile roll on and 1000metre solo racing is still very much in the junior school phase compared to the States.

Understandable as we have only 23 million people spread over a country the size of the USA and run only three runway events a year spread around the country. :crybaby2:

To give you an idea of the distance between these three events, superimposed on the US there would be one in LA (west coast Oz), one in New York (central east coast Oz) and one in Atlanta (southern east coast)!!!

It is a long drive from Perth, west coast to Cooma ,central east coast- 3,500kms (2,200 miles) to compete, as I did last November, I give you the big tip!!

A UR 1R or 2R would annihilate all the other competitors right now. :icon_super:

Heck even a little ol UR stage 3 is more than competitive for a podium finish against other true 'street cars'.

Cheers,

john

John,

I always look forward to your posts ...

Considering how much seat time you get in your TTG ...

Nothing like great information from a qualified source ...

Looking forward to seeing you on the podium ...

Be safe ...

Hi Woosh,

for some light relief, I noticed that although I mentioned I destroyed a set of R888 rear tyres on my road trip back to Perth from the east coast of oz last December, I didn't post a photo of these very secondhand R888 rear tyres.

The rear left went flat at about 70 mph, but no drama's . Just a 'Golly gee or similar, that's a rear tyre just gone in the middle of nowhere on a 34 deg C (90F) day' :crybaby2:

Actually only 50 miles from nearest town of Wudinna, but getting the lambo there and a set of rear tyres is another story.

http://www.nullarbornet.com.au/towns/wudinna.html

Right hand rear R888 was on the way out and almost starting to show the steel cords, but not quite there yet.

I guess the negative camber will do that for your tyres. lol.

Hoping to get better road mileage out of the R888R's :eusa_dance:

cheers,

john
