Contemplating selling my 1999 Diablo VT Coupe

Toying with the idea of selling my '99 Diablo VT coupe. I've owned this car for many years.

Have kept the car maintained. Currently am having the front bumper resprayed and clear bra'd

to take care of miscellaneous small rock chips that have accumulated over the years. All components work as they should. Recently had front driver's side shock replaced along with

Koni ECU. Had cats replaced with "test pipes", but still have cats. Stock tail pipes. Every thing

else is stock. Not cheap. Only 23 '99 VT Coupes made. Lambo of Sarasota FL has a yellow one,

which they have priced at $375,000.00 currently. I will take less than that.

You might want to talk to Roy.

We have talked many times over the years..as a matter of fact sold him a nice Aston Martin a while back.,.not sure if he still has it.

Remember ASKING and GETTING are two different animals....

That said, the 99 AND 98 cars are a fantastic machine. I have had a few and always impressed with the performance of the 98/99 cars. The addition of the VVT to the 98/99 cars was a MASSIVE improvement on the performance and the putting the HP to the wheels and down tot he ground.

Really hard to get a read on Diablo values lately save the SE30s, SVs, clean 6.0s etc.

There are currently 30 Diablos on DPR right now. Some people with '95 VTs are asking the same price as those with '98-'99 Roadsters, which, of course, I think is crazy, and both of which, don't seem to be moving at those prices (~$275K). But then there are others asking for another $50-100K on top of that for '98s and '99s which bring them into low mileage SV/6.0 money.

Curious on everyone's thought on this. A lot of speculators in the market hoping for the Diablo to do what the Countach has been doing, but I still think it's a bit too early. They've definitely already moved as we've seen, but not as fast as some sellers might have hoped for.

However, as we all know, it's not a matter of if, but when. If you can, I'd hold out for another 24 months unless you find a really motivated buyer or are keen to move onto something else soon.

I think you may be misinterpreting the data/trends. The CT is what was "pulling" Diablos forward, probably in a premature way for the Diablo as a stand alone item. Now that CTs have not only gone flat, but actually started to come back, there is absolutely no near term upside for the Diablo unless it is a super special car or the CT starts running up again. Hence, massive inventory in both cars and insane bid ask spreads.

This discussion may not be appropriate in this thread and to the extent OP feels that way; mods feel free to delete.

"Massive inventory"? Some of the 31 cars on DuPont are listed 2 and 3 times. Anyway, if any interest, PM me. Will probably keep the car. Would be difficult to replace with the same quality car. A lot of questionably-maintained Diablos out there.

Just wanting to try out another Lambo.....either Aventador or Huracan.

By massive, I mean eBay probably averaging 600% more inventory than in, say, 2014. The influx obviously spurred by people trying to capture that outlier number. Again, law of small numbers for sure. Since this is no longer a for sale add, I would guess you could find a buyer somewhere rigjt around $215k if miles are right.

Sad to hear you are selling it but I do not blame you with the market and how rare...yes rare a 1999 is. I would put it up on eBay with quality images and details of maintanence and I am sure you will sell it! I could definitely see you in an Aventador! This is a super clean car and he does not "beat" on his cars. GLWS bromigo!

I agree... There is way too many Diablos for sale and most all are listed for crazy pricing. Market is just not there for Diablo's even in 200K. If you don't believe me just check the latest actual sales of the DIablo's. and watch most of the same Diablos with unrealistic pricing listed over and over for years now (some since 2012)

One has to question why someone would spend new Aventador price for a 20 year old car!

I was in the market for a DR but I am waiting for a nice Aventador Roadster now...... Drove both and own a Diablo coup....... Avantador ars aaaaaaaa sooooo much better machine

I recommend you put your DR on ebay and with your asking price and if the market is there you will sell it right away!!! GLWS!!!!!

Just my humble opinion

Do you watch Barrett Jackson?? 6 figures for a 30+ year old Chevy assembled by UAW assembly line workers? Figure there are maybe 2000 to 2200 Diablo's on the planet (have they made the 4000th Aventador's yet?) But Jeff, you still can't have the SV!! Kev

Crazy thread crapping. Good luck with sale if you decide to sell. Anyone who knows the seller would know this car would arrive problem free, no stories.

like roy said asking and getting are two different things,if you really want to sell your car price it right , I have owned a vt and a sv Monterey edition in the past.3 years ago a clean under 10k mile 6.0 were selling for 150/170k retail and wholesale were 120/130.they deserve to go up but not over 100% imo, some of the asking prices are very optimistic, when I buy a diablo again not buying for investment purpose buying for enjoyment,i prefer to put investment cash in properties.good luck with your sale its a beautiful example of one

Again that was just my Opinion......

if you thing its an investment then the prices are going through the roof (even if they don't sell)

If you have one and don't care to sell it then the price is holding as it was in 2012-13

If you are in the market to buy then the prices are same as 2010.....

Either case it is very subjective!!!!!!

In my opinion for the price I would rather buy a Aventador and save the headache of a 20 year old crazy priced yesterday's technology

Even a Huracan is a better Machine then the currently priced Diablo's........

If you don't believe me then test drive a Huracan against a Diablo.......

I love the Diablo then I matured and discovered I love intelligent decisions much more!!!!!!! For the price a Brand spanking New Huracan is much better Machine or even a slightly used Aventador......

I have moved on from the old hag to a much younger modern newer more aggressive and full of energy women uhmmmmm machine !!!!

Again just my opinion

Actually, I would call the Diablo a very intelligent design, for 1991. I first drove a Diablo in 1995, so I can remember the context that people quickly forget. You mention subjectivity in talking about price perception, but then go full-objective on value perception.

It's all about passion. If I knew I could sell my Diablo today for as much as an Aventador, I wouldn't even consider it. I could give two shits about new tech or mass-produced cars. You're right that the choice is yours. But both DosDiablos' and I have already gone fast, done that, so no doubt we're both looking for something different in a car (his sig' is a fighter pilot's mantra). If I had a few mil' to spend on a Zonda, I'd buy it, but I still wouldn't be buying it for its performance or tech. I'm someone who would be bored shitless owning a Huracan. Abosolutely bored shitless. Nice car...amazing car...glad they made it...bored shitless nonetheless. Loving new designs more than older designs has precious little to do with maturing and, if anything, is the inverse of that. There will always be something faster, but "better" isn't fact-based. I haven't ever seen the Diablo as settling for less-than-new or a cheaper entry point into exotics. Quite the contrary. The Diablo and the Countach have always been my end goal, nothing more, nothing less. I realize that's not the case for everyone, so I can only claim a particular car is better for me. AZLambo merely needs to examine what got him into the Diablo in the first place and what he's getting out of his ownership experience, even as lengthy as it is.

Saying that the latest car from a manufacturer is better than a car 2 generations back is moronic. I would hope that it would be built better and faster. That being said, does that make it better? I dont think so. Out of my 3 Lambos, the older they are, the better they are. More special in every aspect. Do I like the Aventador or the Huracan? Ofcourse. Would I give up one of my cars to own one? Maybe the Murcielago, but never the CT or Diablo.

Beautiful Car AzLambo. Not sure why you would want to sell it, but I would certainly ask all the money for it. I know you take care of all your cars extremely well, and Im certain this one is no exception.

Curious question. It has Roadster front bumper, sills, wheels and rear grill and SV wing. It came from factory like that or you modified it?

North American spec '99 VTs came outfitted this way. Rest of World got the earlier style bumpers and grilles which also makes these NA cars very unique.

And no thread crapping here, it's an incredibly beautiful car that WILL reach those prices very soon. Then again if it were mine I'd probably keep it.

This is just my opinion hence my "full-objective". I love the Diablo as well but not at that price I guess. I respect your opinion and My apology if I caused any ill feelings....

So what do you own?

Honestly I would rather stay humble..... But please note I have been in the market for a right DR for about 2 years so my opinion and objective decisions are based as a buyer.

But since you asked

Lamborghini

1991 Diablo

1986 Jalpa (Talk about a rare machine... only 400 made ever)

And from my dark side

3 well built Lamborghini craplica (I am trying to sell but don't want to give away, I have enough money tied into it to buy another early model Diablo at today's price)

Remember I have been in the market for a Diablo Roadster for couple of years but as an objective buyer I cant justify the price. Aventador is looking more and more attractive at that price.

Honestly, I just do not have that type of discretionary funds currently or I would have already moved into a Ave....

If I could move my Diablo even at half the price of a Ave I would do it in a heartbeat........ I don't think it will sell just like any other 15+ on ebay and around 60+ across the world

If they were so hot they would sell like hotcake rather then being relisted again and again year after year.....

Again this is just my observation and opinion
