Short review

Big ol beast, goes nicely.

Slightly longer review.

5 of us went up to Wembley in a 3.0V6 Diesel XJ, three of us are on the heavy side yet it felt planted cruised with ease at 85-90 at 2K rpm and picked up quick enough and the ride improved the quicker we went.

As for the twisty stuff, it coped, though not the most dynamic car (especially 5up) but you don't buy a Jag saloon for its set your pants on fire handling.

It is an exceedingly long car though so park sensors and guidance are a must, I could not park it properly without using those aids.

Fit and finish are a bit... English. Whilst it looks ok now I think a few years down the line I think they would scratch and damage easily but whilst door switches might well be a headache the D word will be a migraine but I think all other cars in this segment are not immune to this.

However, bloody nice car and a interesting alternative to a S or E class merc.

Well our one didn't creak and it was the xl one.

Was it a 2012 MY? How many miles on it if it wasnt a '12? It's a cool car nonetheless.

I love this car, it looks really good although I'm still a big fan of the previous model (saw a black one today, stunning).

It would be difficult for me to choose between an S class and a XJ and I wouldn't compare it to an E-class. This car is way more expensive and better looking. :D

Previous model years had a very annoying issue with the glass roof, which was supposed to have been fixed in 2012 models. After a while it creaked, and it was annoying and very hard to fix. I love the Jaguar line-up, and ze Germans really need some competition. The facelifted XF is a jewel too and rides like nothing else in its segment.

I LOVE the Jaguar line-up. Beautiful beautiful sedans. Thanks for the review.

XJ

LS

7 Series

S-Class

would be my ranking

A ranking that not many on the board would agree with...but I do. :icon_mrgreen:

The XJ is a nice breath of fresh air in the segment, some beautiful styling elements (particularly inside), and the LS has always been underrated in my opinion, because the knock against it is the throw-back "70s Cadillac" detached floating-on-air soft ride...which is exactly what I want in a mindless land-yacth cruiser.

The harder-edged German sedans are more firm, which can be fun obviously (see Tony's S8 write up) but honestly in the big monsters I want the RR feel, the "wafting" magic carpet ride where you feel nothing at all, and the LS does that better than the 7/S-Class.

Is the LS still the class of the segment for Asian MILFs?

:lol2: :lol2: :lol2:

In Irvine it's the poster car for Asian Moms driving around with full sleeve shirts, gloves, a huge banker's visor, and mask covering their faces...

Sun evil! :icon_mrgreen:

^I have seen quite a few of those. Ninjettes! :icon_mrgreen:

I think the XJ is very nice. Definitely distinguishes itself from the rest of the pack & in a positive way too.

Can we say the XJ is a Bond car now what with it being used quite extensively used in Skyfall.

I still think they look the business and the new sound system kicks the ass of the already amazing B+W setup! Hard to believe I know but hands down best in car hifi I have ever experienced.

Do you know which version of the hifi it was? 250w proprietary, 380w Meridian or 825w Meridian? That link to the car isn't working for me.

On topic, very keen on the current XJ, that interior is just porn. The multimedia system is ridiculously fiddly though, I had a couple of days with a facelifted XF last month and you just can't operate the touchscreen while driving. The older version (still a touchscreen) may have been much less pretty but at least you didn't have to park up to mute the satnav or fire up the heated seats.

The new XJ in Skyfall was the tits for sure! As for the SatNav issue it is only a matter of time until someone has a bypass for the parking brake/speedometer sensor.

Well this is an old thread so the car has been sold now but that was the top spec B+W one.

The car I was in the other day had the 825 Meridan. Staggering quality.

Bluetooth Audio was nicely intuitive to.

Interior is colour and wood sensitive IMO ie don't go for wood.

i dont mean to resurrect an old thread....but since im a Jag XJ owner I wanted to chime in.

ive had a new XJ every 2 years since 2003 (and one XF). Fantastic car! i got a lot of "hows the electrical problems" comments.....but in actuality, never had an issue with any car. Their reliability has increased dramatically.......problem is everyone is stuck in the ways of the 90's problem filled jag....and havent let go of it!

my current one: 2013 XJ L.....fantastic car. hands down one of the best cars ive ever owned. its got the speed and luxury anyone needs. creaking roof is resolved. the Meridian system is fantastic....the exhaust note and power delivery is phenominal. as soon as the lease ends im going for the XJR.

the ONE thing that drives me nuts is their infotainment system. Possibly the worst system ive ever seen in my life....in a car....in a COMPUTER. i dont understand how this system made it into production and someone over at Jaguar signed off on it. when I put the car in reverse, it takes up to 90 seconds for the reverse cam to come up. when i want to dig into the menus....it'll take up to 60 seconds to change screens. absolutely horrible.

other than that....i love the car to bits.

Haven't been a fan of Jaguars since the late 80's, they ruined the XJ design back then. I've owned 80's XJ12 series III Vanden Plas sedans. I'm actually looking for one now as a collectible. Little difficult because in the 80's Jaguar made the V12 custom order in the U.S, and so few ordered them, some sources even say Jaguar stopped selling them in the U.S. In my opinion these are the last Jaguars with a real soul!!!! The new cars are just badge engineered soulless sedans.

i had a 92 XJ sovereign with 3200 6 cilinders engine

nice saloon car, but not much reliable...it costed more than most lambos i had...

interior felt really nice and quality of leather - wood was great though!

A 92 would be the XJ40 sovereign. They used a new inline 6 that wasn't as good as the earlier XJ6 engine. The previous 6 was a extremely popular engine. Except in Canada, the 12 out sold the 6.
