deekss Report post Posted August 6, 2017 Mates The Murci had intermittently started to just 'click' when trying to start... This got worse until it became tricky to start, and would 'click' more than turn over. Battery is fully charged, clicking is the starter solenoid. I jacked the car up, and when shorting between the main battery terminal on the starter and the solenoid terminal the engine cranks over at normal speed. First step has been to change the starter relay - the middle one behind the left had seat. Equivalent VW Part number 4H0951253, £19 GBP. No difference. When trying to start I only see just over 10 volts at the solenoid terminal; That's surely not enough ? There's a regular type spade terminal in a large plastic enclosure about 10 inches back from the starter. When disconnected I get over 12 volts there; Finished for the night now, but I guess it's just now tracing back and seeing where the voltage drop starts. Best check the earth straps too.... Stimpy Report post Posted August 7, 2017 Have you load tested the battery? Just measure the voltage while you have on the headlights, the radio, and the A/C blowing full blast and watch if it's holding the 12V or dropping rapidly. Murci's also have an issue with starters getting dirt on the inside and needing cleaning to work again. You can do some searches on that to see if it's a similar problem. Kipper Report post Posted August 11, 2017 I also had this problem and what it turned out to be is that the starter is full of clutch crap and it prevents the throw out unit from freely extending allowing the solenoid contacts from engaging the starter. Remove the starter and have is cleaned out and you should be fine, also note that you can remove the starter with the motor in place you just need to be creative with the tools and very small hands helps to put the top bolt back in Good luck Kipper Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
