Have lunch (or dinner) at the Hali'imaile General Store.

Tour the Pau Vodka and Sammy's Beach Bar Rum distillery (across the street from Hali'imaile General Store).

Monkeypod Kitchen in Wailea - I've been told they have a great happy hour and food. Forgot to try it last time I was there.

If you are into a farm to table experience for lunch - O'o Farms does a tour and amazing lunch at the end.

Mama's Fish House.

Fleetwood's in Lahaina is also a great restaurant.

Sansei Sushi in Kihei (Sunday & Monday half price sushi during happy hour - long line sometimes before they open).

Maui Brewing Company.

Close things to Wailea - in Kihei there is a small shopping center with restaurants:

Lava Java Coffee is a great start to the day.

South Shore Tiki Lounge has great pizza.

What Ales You - great place for good beers on tap that aren't just to local Hawaiian ones.

Is it too late to change your reservation and go elsewhere? :) Like the Bahamas?

The Grand Wailea is nice. Id personally spend my entire there, eating and drinking between the hotels and the shopping center. This in my opinion is the best part of the Island. I would not leave here.

If you drive the Volcano, picture me flying up in Diablo scaring the shit out of all the bicyclists. Once you get to the top, youll spend 5 minutes and leave. Its cold, not much to see. It was my favorite drive in the Diablo there, on the way down I sent many a tourist flying into the brush. Albeit not many places to drive so this was pretty much my only choice.

Road to Hana, and seven sacred pools... Snooze fest...

Mommas Fish house is good... Roys is poop, on other side of Island.. Youre better off eating at Ruths Chris near the Grand Wailea.

Zip Line is cool. Go to the Bahamas .... :)

I used to live in Lahaina, Maui and have a few things I definitely recommend.

My favorite experience was "Powered Hang Gliding" out of Hana Airport. To this day it is one of the top experiences of my life, cutting the engine off at 5k ft and gliding silently. You can see the other islands from up there. http://www.hangglidingmaui.com/

If you dive I highly suggest going on a night dive out of Lahaina, I recommend "Maui Diving" as they have the best dive instructors and prices: http://www.mauidiving.com/

In my opinion the best restaurant on the island is Lahaina Grill, I much preferred it over Mamas.

Aloha Mixed Plate for some good cheap local food right on the beach.

My favorite hike on the island is Waihee Ridge Trail in Wailuku its incredible.

If I think of more I'll let you know!

Half the island is uninhabited and only accessible by ATV or helicopter. Take a helicopter tour after a big rain and fly over a million falls shooting everywhere. My brother lives among the only 180,000 residents on the North shore and you can run out of things to do in about 2 days. Maybe go to Costco and buy a bunch of wine? LOL

Thanks guys! Was planning on doing a Heli tour. Just need to call and book one.

I've heard the resort and surrounding areas have some nice spots too.

Any particular beach that stands out as better than the others?

A buddy was telling me there is a nudist Hippie beach called little beach close to the hotel. Lol

Usually aren't the kind of people you want to see naked at those places

What should I do while there? Staying at Grand Wailea with the wife June 11-18

Hop on a plane to Palau or Pohnpei and bring your dive gear.

Try out Lahaina grill. One of the best restaurants I've been to.

I also loved this beer called mana wheat when I was there and haven't been able to find here

Maui Sporting Clays.

Interesting course inside rim of inactive volcano.

Gorgeous ocean views.

Rented all the equipment - didn't want to hassle with bringing our own shotguns for one afternoon.

He picked us up because he must traverse private, gated properties on the way to the top.

It's been quite a few years but it was memorable. He gave us a tour of the property.

Required an appt.

I prefer off the beaten path activities and avoiding large crowds. This happens to be one of my favorite on Maui and the easiest to explain how to find.

On the road to Hana, luckily not too far into the drive is a small farm stand and a sign that says Twin Falls Farm Stand. It's private property but they allow the public, and a purchase or donation at the farm stand is appropriate. It gets some people but nowhere near the traffic of the public and more well known tourist hot spots. Parking can be problematic, it's not a big parking area.

You walk behind the farm stand down the trail. Some great, easy to walk trails with creeks and waterfalls. Much more impressive than any you will see on the Road to Hana drive. You can get in and swim the lagoons up to the falls. There are two separate falls, most people don't get past the first thinking that's the main site as it has two down falls. The second fall further down the trail is just as nice. Now the best part is beyond where most people end. There is a gate at what looks like the end of the main trail at the 2nd waterfall. It has a sign on it that discourages most and the gate is shut... but not locked. You can open the gate and continue up the trail. If you follow it, you will have to cross a creek, no more than knee high. Then the trail takes you to an aqueduct system and you follow that to a beautiful secluded waterfall and lagoon. You have to walk through the creek to get to the lagoon in front of the waterfall. There might be a few other people there at most. It's very secluded and picture perfect. Some of the paid hiking tours businesses take people there. But that's the most traffic it sees.

Booked a West Maui Helicopter Tour.

Tried Booking the Volcano First thing in the morning Zipline tour, and it was booked. Cant say I'm upset. It would need to be the most amazing thing on earth for me to get up at 2am.

Looking into a 5 hour hike on east Maui now for Tuesday on Road To Hana and a few others...

Just make sure that you don't make it into one of those vacations where you end up needing a "vacation from the vacation" if-you-will. Sometimes the best thing to do on such a vacation is to just lie around and do nothing :D

It's a 6 hour time difference for you so 2 am is 8pm? Do it the first day and it's no sweat.

  • 2 weeks later...
If you run out of things to do and find yourself in Oahu, that Robin Masters estate would be nice to see. :icon_mrgreen:

Last time I was at Seven Pools there was a bunch of locals in it telling tourist they could not come in. LOL. The hike across the street to Waimoku Falls is way better anyways.
