cake Report post Posted August 16, 2015 Saw my first GT4 "in the flesh". All I can say: if I thought I wanted one before.....now I KNOW I want one! It has incredible presence! It truly looks like a GT car. Too bad they are so difficult to get... The only thing about it I'm not wild about are color choices. Not excited about any of them - although the yellow looks great in person and suits the car. It's "Racing Yellow' which is brighter than the Porsche Speed Yellow (a bit like mustard to my eye). HannibalACP82 Report post Posted August 16, 2015 Funny you posted this as I saw my first today as well over here in Abu Dhabi. Looked KILLER! There also was a 991 911 GT3 parked out front of my hotel today in blue and man did it look good.
cake Report post Posted August 16, 2015 Oooh, that grey is puuurty! +1 Probably the color I'd choose if I were to spec one (which ain't gonna happen) WTF - comfort spec?!The lightweight bucket seats are on back order. Porsche has changed the spec to a "comfort" seat - in some cases without telling the customer. The car arrives and it's got the wrong seat, and the customer is told "take it or leave it - we got 10 people who will buy it if you won't". I've seen 3 come on the market this way, and each has sold to someone else. The buyers are pissed. One in Pittsburgh arrived that way and I was told by the owner himself that Porsche's attitude is "tough sh!t". I know it's a case of supply vs demand but I think it stinks that Porsche wouldn't provide the option up front to delay the build and wait for the LWB seat. I was told by someone at the dealer that everyone has the option to wait - but I've seen instances where the car delivered with the "wrong" seats and the buyer walks away. I've also been told that so far there is no way to order the LWB seat aftermarket. I assume they'll eventually become available but of course are VERY expensive and for now - cannot be had at any price. I wonder if Porsche would deliver a GT3 or GT3RS with the "wrong" seat - without first notifying the buyer. I can't imagine that happening. Seems like the GT4 folks are being treated as second class citizens (but I'm making an assumption here). Since most of these cars are going for around $100k (MSRP) - it's still a fair amount of money to spend on a car. It's less expensive than a GT3/GT3RS by a wide margin - but still it's 6 figures or close to it. Seems one should get what they order or have the option to wait if the order can't be properly filled right now. I think folks with late build slots will be in a better position to get the LWB seat assuming Porsche fixes the backlog. Supply vs demand is always king. That sucks and I would be pissed....but I would take it to keep the car. No way these cars aren't going up in value and you are going to EVENTUALLY be able to get those seats. Worth it to get in to a GT4.
LA_Brit Report post Posted August 16, 2015 fcuk that. GT4 RS is coming out supposedly so values of this won't be THAT strong.
cake Report post Posted August 16, 2015 fcuk that. GT4 RS is coming out supposedly so values of this won't be THAT strong. It'll be interesting to see if they bring it out. How do they position a GT4RS so as not to "step on toes" of GT3? I'd think they have to give a GT4 a decent bump in power to be an RS....and price-wise and power-wise they'll come mighty close to their sacred cow. Of course the Cayman is a completely different animal - and some say it's not a true Porsche. It's certainly billed as "entry level" - but how do they keep the Cayman "in its place" and produce an RS version that has to have more than the GT4 version? I'm watching with interest on the GT4RS. First they need to get the seat issue sorted.
Smash Boy Report post Posted August 16, 2015 Potentially could be better than a GT3. Definitely better driver's car than most 911s. First Cayman that really has my attention. The manual only configuration probably enhances the aura more than if they offered PDK as well.

cake Report post Posted August 25, 2015 Got my first ride in one tonight. I PM'd this guy when he said he just took delivery and showed a location near me. Figured maybe we knew each other. Turns out we are neighbors but have never met (it's a big neighborhood). He lives less than a mile away! He stopped by tonight and took me for a ride, then hubby. The car is stunning. Ride is sporty but not uncomfortable. Rev matching feature is cool but I don't know if I'd use it (maybe in heavy traffic once I got used to keeping my right foot from blipping) The exhaust note is nice. Aggressive, has a nice burble on the over-runs - yet isn't horribly loud. With the valves open I can see where it howls over 4000 rpm (which is where most of the power band is) but put it in "quiet mode" and the neighbors won't hate you when you leave early for the track He just put clear side markers on. The OEM were flush with the body. The clear markers jut out a bit which isn't bad but unexpected. I'd prefer them to be flush. Not a big deal... Only options are fire extinguisher and red seat belts. The black looks good and suits the car but I'd choose dark gray or a different color. Some of the details and GT bits are lost in the black. I was astonished that he offered me the keys and said I could take hubby for a ride. I declined. I'm a bit spooked about driving someone's brand new toy - someone whom I've never met before (except on Rennlist via PM). He knows I'm an instructor and that I have a lot of training, and I think he was self-conscious about his driving and was afraid I'd be "evaluating" him. I was able to put him at ease and we had a nice little ride. He got on it a few times and it was fun. Stuck like glue - but of course street driving is a different experience. He plans to track it and I will be sure I'm in the right seat. He might let me drive it on track which would be fun if traffic isn't too dense. I suspect I'll have another chance to drive it and I'll probably take him up on it next time.

BusDriver Report post Posted August 25, 2015 Handles like a go kart, and fantastic gear shift - weighting and throws are perfect. Sounds great with just the right amount of gear whine and a nice exhaust that is not too noisy. The engine is nice and torquey but not overpowered like the 500-600+ hp modern supercars - the 385 hp is the perfect amount. Most enjoyable Porsche ever made - and I have driven most of the late model ones. I put 500 miles on mine in 3 days!

Definitely smaller in the metal than you think though.Yes - it's not a "big" car. Def smaller than a GT3 (for example) but IMO has incredible presence. The nose especially looks aggressive and I love the wing - perfectly proportioned for the car. I agree on darker colours although I might go with a bright PTS color if I could decide. Or maybe just get it in the dark gray and then wrap it in a fun colour like Gulf Blue. I hope I get a chance to make that decision. Looks killerYes it does! Have you driven a Cayman R - and if so....how does it compare to the GT4? I know the power can't possibly compare. I was talking to some guys at the rack who had the C-R and just got the GT4. They said everything about it is tighter and more precise. I guess that's the difference in having a true GT car.

There is a guy by my office with a blue/orange 997 GT3RS who supposedly has a matching GT4 he just picked up, if I see it running around I will snap some pics for you. But I think it would be an awesome color combo, his GT3RS sure looks fierce! The Cayman S I drove was a damn fun car, it just needs like 1" more legroom, at 6'4" I just don't fit. Hubby suggested gulf blue with orange calipers - but I'm not sure about orange calipers. Sounds like your friend has the Gulf theme livery. Gulf blue is one of my fave colors! If he wants to part with it let me know!! I drove a friends base 2015 Cayman at Watkins Glen for a session (while mine was being repaired) It was a blast! I agree - they are fun cars. I can see how you don't fit at 6'4". With a helmet....forget it.

Don't know about Cayman R, but compared to 911 GT models...GT4 is not as sharp/racey as a GT3 RS or even a GT3, but a *lot more fun*. I prefer the GT4 to any 911. Most fun of any current Porsche!
