Utterly pointless. The Hellcat sedan makes some sense...kinda a knock off e39 M5. German chassis of a similar vintage.

What makes it more pointless than an x5m or gle63?

Nothing. They're all pointless. That's why people buy them.

The Chevy SS is more of an e39 M5 knock off than anything out there.

:iamwithstupid:

And yet somehow I feel the beast Grand Cherokee makes more sense than the X6M, GL63, Cayenne Turbos because of less pretense to try and be a sports car.

0 to 60 in 3.5 seems pretty impressive. I like the earlier SRT8 Cherokee where they had sharper angles to the car, now these just look run of the mill blending in with all the other SUVs. Maybe I am just more old school wedgie type of guy rather than bubble butt. The SRT8 was fast though, but to me it felt like I was driving a supercharged motor home, which felt odd. Ended up getting a white Jeep Sahara instead of the Cherokee as I felt these are real "Jeeps", plus the wife demanded the true Jeep...happy wife happy life. But for those into speedy SUVs this one seems nice. I also see new commercials for some new Maserati SUV racing through the woods at unreal crazy speed, which I just don't get it. Can't believe Maserati has an SUV now, reminded me of when McDonalds tried suchi on their menu. Sorry, got a bit off subject.

About as pointless as every performance car. No one needs anything more than a Honda Civic.

I thought the price was going to be damn near 100? For the right price, they would be a good buy. But just like the hellcats, there will be a surge and prices will tank. I'd hold off a little while.

Price is my issue. I already thought the SRT jeep was overpriced and this will tack on more $. Can't fathom paying more for the engine in the Jeep than in one of the cars. That said, it is cool and a used example may make for a nice pick up.

Knock off is a bit harsh. The SS is a pretty slick ride, and it's nice to see an American version of the performance sedan.

I'd consider an SS no problem. Reliable (for the most part) performance parts are cheap (if you wanted to modify it). And it's got a proven power plant with room to grow. And you can get it in a six-speed (if you can find them haha)

No issues with the SS........"knock off" was just a term to describe spiritual successor. I happen to like it myself.

It's an excellent sedan dynamically, whose only major issue is the badge and the conservative looks. That's the only reason why it isn't selling. Even GM marketing efforts are next to nothing on it.

According to Randy Pobst, it's actually a better E39 M5 than the E39 M5. Not just quicker around the track, but feels better in chassis, grip, power, etc. Huge endorsement from a guy like that.

Would much rather have an SS over an older M5.
