VF Engineering Hex Tune Review

Just had VF Engineering tune my LP700 Coupe and WOW! Prior to getting the tune I was considering getting an Aventador S. I had a chance to drive the Aventador S on Thermal and was taken away by how much better it was than the regular car. Throttle input and power in the lower rev range is much better.

After getting the VF Engineering tune I can say that I have no desire to get an Aventador S. The Tune transforms the car. Power is increased by 40 wheel HP and 40 more torque and I can tell you it's very noticeable. Power throughout is the entire rev range is much sharper.

This is by far the best upgrade I've done and worth every penny. It'll feel like a whole new car again!

That is great to hear. Do you have a before and after dyno ?

I'd love to hear from the tuner how these gains are achieved on a naturally aspirated motor, or better yet see a dyno graph before and after. It's very easy on a turbo motor, you just increase the boost. 40 HP is a huge swing from just a tune.

If you think about it, 40hp is a 5% increase in power on a 700+hp engine. Advance the timing a touch, a little tweak to the AF ratio and whatever else they do and a 5% increase I don't believe is an outrageous claim.

isn't 40 HP what the Lambo factory tune was advertising? Its not available anymore so I'll bet VF tune just duplicated it and put it on the market...looks like it pretty much the same $$ too as the factory tune.

I don't have before and after dyno's. I can assure you the power is very noticeable.

The factory was very conservative with the car from the start so they have room for improvement in the later models. LP700 to Centenario 770HP is all tuning.

Prior to the tune, I was just running power craft exhaust with no cats. I raced my friend in his Aventador SV multiple times and we were DEAD even. SV is supposed to have 50 more HP and lighter. I am assuming the exhaust made up for that 50hp. I will re-race him with my tune and see if the outcome is any different.

I believe 100% that you believe that the power is noticeable however you just gave $3-4k to someone to tell you that your car gained 40hp without verifying ? Not sure if you know but Lambo tune is no longer available because a few people here did it and actually dyno'd their car before and after and all of them gained about 5-8hp on the top end but lost power down low. And all of them swore that they felt a difference. Tuners have ways to adjust how fast power comes on, and how sensitive the accelerator is and may give you that false sensation but I would never believe any power rating unless it was proven to me.

Just think about it, if the factory couldn't back up their claim how are you going to believe a 3rd party?

Also, a few magazines tested the SV against the standard A and they showed the standard A was just as fast and even a tick faster in some tests. The big wing on the SV limits its straight line performance. Just getting a catless exhaust doesnt add 50hp.

Was that the ecu enhanced performance tune or the ecu tune for the race exhaust, bc I heard it was the race exhaust ecu software that was giving complaints...

I have private messages with two members here and they used the ECU/exhaust combo that Lambo was advertising showing something like 10-12% gain and both of them lost power and they were very upset and reverted back to factory. The dealerships went back and forth with factory and factory essentially had no fix or explanation and pretty much had a crappy response to the tune of dynos are not reliable blah blah. Except couldnt explain why on the same dyno, same car they lost power.

Yes, that's in sync with what I heard...BUT what about the Lamborghini Factory ECU "Sound performance Tune" which claims 8.5% increase in power between 2-3000 RPM? BTW it's not available anymore (After November 2017)

I dont buy it one bit. Why should we believe that number when they couldnt even come remotely come close to their other claim about power gain?

Maybe that's why it's not available anymore...BUT that begs the question, how are they getting 770HP from the Centenario & 740 from AVs and 750 from the SV, is it more than a tune? maybe I guess....

I had my ECU tuned with a GIAC program..They made similar claims. But I also had a Larini Club Exhaust installed and filters. It feels quicker but I'm not sure how much of that is the placebo effect from the sick exhaust note and extra breathing.

The good news is GIAC offers a 30 day money back guarantee.

You make a valid point about tunes for N/A cars. All the other N/A cars I've owned and have done tunes on, i haven't felt much of a difference. For this car its honestly night and day. When I drove the Aventador S I noticed the S has a much torquier powerband. My car with the tune feels the same as the S. Dyno's actually don't mean anything. The real test would be the vBox runs. I haven't had a chance to vBox my car after the tune, but once I do i will report back.

Vr is a very creditable group and they have dunks to prove their performance. I’m going to go in for the tune in a couple of weeks I’ll keep you

When you are spending $3-4k for a tune drop a couple of hundred bucks and get a before and after dyno on same dyno and that will tell you the real answer.

i had the Hex tune done this weekend on my '16 roadster. Butt dyno tells me theres a slight increase in power, but the feel of the car is much much much improved. Especially in throttle response and shift response. The power gains could be from the capristo exhaust, but even assuming no power gain the car drives better. The shift lag was driving me crazy.

V interesting , I noticed my lp700 is a lot smoother and more responsive on take off than my SV both have the exhaust tune

Did the OP ever confirm that his tune was indeed not a "placebo effect"?

Nope.  We do not have one solid dyno from anyone that has done a VF tune.  Even VF wont show you one.  The one they show you is some simulated power at crank and not the actual dyno

Smells fishy.

So is there ANY proof from anyone that an ecu tune from any of the companies that does them yields hp gains? Or are you guys saying that all these companies are making a free 3K?

Only really reliable hp gain will be raising the Rev limiter which is how Lamborghini generally do their power bumps.

That doesn't necessarily translate to useable horsepower though does it? More of a dyno-sheet brag point?
