Which Murci to Get

Hello All,

I've been lurking here for a little while and I'm finally ready to pull the trigger on my first Lambo. Unfortunately since I originally got into the brand the price of my favorite models (Diablo SE, SV, 6.0) has become attainable and subsequently unattainable again haha.

Which leads me to the Murci. For the purposes of this discussion, let's just assume I am only interested in 12 cylinder cars as that's what I've always had my heart set on. I know the 10 cylinder models are probably better and certainly more usable in every way, but I like what I like.

Long story short, it's got to be a 3 pedal car for me and the LP640's are obviously way too pricey given the rarity. My question is, should I just find a nice 02-03 or is it worth it to try and find a MT 05 for the brakes/options?

I will be driving the car 500-1,000 miles/year, so enough that it could be argued that it matters, but maybe not. Realistically the most enjoyment will probably still come from looking at it.

Thanks in advance for any opinions and feel free to throw in some buyer's advice from those experienced.

Stimpy is one of the few on here who has a manual (pre 640 non 02-03) Murcie, so he would be best to chime in on the differences. From what I know I would recommend either an 02 or 03. The brakes work just fine and certainly stop the car. I am not a fan of the "braking feel", but that is splitting hairs. I cannot say enough good things about the 03 6.2. I have had mine for coming up on three years and it has been super reliable. I probably put in-between 500-750 miles on mine a year.

As far as what to look for when buying I can think of a few things. Check the front lifter and make sure it works well. They are known to leak and fail on the early cars. I would also check the bat wings (make sure they both work and close flush to the body). A PPI is always a must and can end up saving you a ton of money. Since you are looking for a manual make sure the clutch has been replaced recently or anticipate changing it if it hasn't. The clutch is an engine out service. When I bought mine it had a brand new clutch and that was a big factor in me deciding to purchase it.

I'm sure I will think of other things, but those are the first few that come to mind.

Hello, I've owned an 03 and I currently own a LP640 E-Gear. The 03 was very reliable and I personally didn't have any issues with mine other then spark plugs, ignition coils and idle relearn from time to time.

The LP640 IMO is a huge improvement over my 03 from my experience. The 03 does have horrible brakes and was the only thing I hated about it. However the later models have better brakes but i don't have any experience with them so I can't say how they are.

I will tell you this, a manual car for me is much more exciting to drive regardless of what it is. I recently purchased a 05 Ford GT TT and that takes care of the manual urges for me, I just couldn't justify paying the premium the LP640 manual cars are bringing.

Good luck with your search and I'm sure there will be more people chiming in to help you with your questions.

I would HIGHLY recommend a 2002/2003 or any 6 speed gated Murci for that matter. I can't speak on behalf of the LP640 6 speed/egear guys but my 02 Murci 6 speed has been great. I've had it for about a year now and even though we only have about 4 months of actual driving weather, I've put about 3k miles on this so far. Zero plans on selling it, but do have plans to add more v12's to the garage.

Couple small recommendations/notes/issues with the older ones that I noticed on mine. These may or may not be your experience:

1) the killswitch may be going bad, replace it yourself for about $150

2) battery if it goes flat during the transportation of the vehicle, it will wipe the "readiness" code for emissions. You will have to have the deal reflash the ECU with the emissions software. Otherwise the car will never be ready, no matter how much you drive it. I would recommend just spending the extra $200 for a new battery while its at the dealer/seller's possession. This way the battery doesn't go flat when it arrives at your place.

3) buy a battery tender, its like $100 and keeps the battery topped off.

4) brakes do suck. Its a heavy ass car but even though it sucks I'm never driving it on the track so for the streets I think its acceptable. It doesn't bite as hard as my GTR does (or the Aston) for that matter but for me, it does the job "ok." Its not life threatening or anything by any means.

5) I would recommend doing a rear wheel drive conversion from Lamborfuckghini. My car drove like shit in small parking lots (felt like driving a semi truck). After the conversion, the quality of life when driving slowly or maneuvering in tight spaces is greatly enhanced, not to mention if you were to drive it a little more aggressive, it makes it much funner!

6) Tire selection sucks if you are going with the 19/20 wheel combo. Currently only Nitto Invo, Perelli P Zeros and Toyo forgot makes tires wide enough for this wheel size. All three are mediocre at best, with the Nitto's being the shittest tires I've ever driven on.

7) If you get a 2002 (maybe even a 2003, forgot) you will want to upgrade the coil packs. The stock ones on these years are garbage and if you get any water in them, it drives like shit for about a week (ask me how I know).

8) No offense to the v10 owners, but get a v12. These are wider making it have incredible road presence. The doors speak for themselves. The extra 2 cylinders make the car howl like nothing else on the road.

One last thing, you ain't gonna be driving 500-1000 miles. Thats what I said when I bought it and I'm already at 3k in the first year of ownership. Its just way too fun!

Thanks for the feedback so far guys.

To expand on this just for the sake of being thorough...

If I could live without the 6MT, is the E Gear in the LP640 enough of an advancement over the Murcielago version that I should be considering it?

I'm less concerned with driving dynamics and more interested in the potential major failures and frequency of clutch replacements (engine out). I seem to remember the LP E Gear being a noteworthy advancement over the previous system, but I don't recall specifics.
