Resurrecting Jalpa #359

Well, it's official today. The car is on the trailer headed to my car brokers shop. Pretty excited.

I've got a handful of pictures and will have more later today. But today I've become the proud new owner of Jalpa #359 and I feel like I'm on cloud 9. The car doesn't run right now, and I realize some of it is a gamble. But my broker sent me tons of pictures and gave me a very good lookaround the car before I decided to bust bank on the car. It was at a price that was hard to say no to.

Before everyone freaks out, the front strap in this picture is literally used just to hold down the front hatch. They were feeling a bit pressured to get the car out of the area due to the entryway of the garage using a business entry. Next stop is a hardware store to tape down the front hatch so it doesn't need to be used. The front hatch is literally not hanging by anything, it isn't bolted in. Since it's been beat to a pulp like a dead horse on the facebook thread, I'm going to move on.

Also, IF ANYONE HAS ANY HISTORY on this car, or knows anything about it, let me know! I love to hear stories about cars, sightings of it, or pictures of it, etc. I cannot find this car in the registries so the previous owner did not register it there apparently. So it seems the community may not have too much info on it.

Here are a few pictures taken when he inspected the car for me:

The summary is essentially that the electrical is completely hosed. The car hasn't been started in quite a while but the pictures showed me that it isn't terrible. The owner took most of the interior apart in his garage to try and fix it himself but estimated it needing a lot of work so he decided to sell it off instead. So now I'm the proud new owner of #359.

At this point the car is on the way to the shop so the parts can be tallied and listed, packaged properly and so it's ready to be shipped to me. I've got a covered transport on, so in the next week or two I will have it in my garage and start tearing into it. I'm excited.

Congratulations Kerplop! :icon_thumleft:

That looks like a nice project for you. Based on the other Porsche cars you've had, half the fun for you is getting in there and doing the work to turn it into a great car. I think you'll get that baby running and looking real good! I haven't seen too many Jalpas and I think that's the first white one I've seen. Looks like a great classic Lambo!

Is it something I could have looked at for you? I'm on the NY boarder. What town is that?

I don't recall the exact name the broker found it in, I want to say it was close to Jersey. I can ask, he did the leg work on checking it out since I'm on the opposite side of the USA.

Based on your 924 rebuild thread, your Jalpa rebuild is easily going to reach gold status. Can't wait to see it back on the road.

Few more pics sent to me this morning from the broker and his wife. They're pretty excited to babysit a Lamborghini till the transport arrives.

:lol2: I'm gonna make her register up on here and YOU can deal with her :lol2:

Apparently the car had some issues with the cylinder lock so the wheel was locking on them all the time. Found a thread on another forum of people having the same issue and my buddy fixed it temporarily till it arrives. Apparently it's a pretty common thing I guess. I saw 3 other owners reply in that thread who all had the same issue. Lambo problems, already starting! :lol2:

He is going to clean the car up and get all the grime off from storage and I'll float some nice pictures of the car here later today.

Ya get the car, put it up on stands, remove wheels, hood, engine cover, trunk, maybe doors, seats, drain every single fluid......make a list (about 8+ pages long lol)............and then go to town on it.

I almost think the paint is very save-able. Which is a good thing, may some touch up and blending.

Yep, I'm not afraid of it. Looking forward to it!

Agreed, I'm not exactly on par with the wiper blades. Checklist has started like this....

#1. Wiper blades

#2. Finish check list

What made me think I could afford a used Japla in 1988 was the exhaust sound. I think that is the key to the car. Unfortunately, I could not afford it.

Very cool car with that '80s vibe. I think you found a great example to play with. I love that big ass wing as well. You will have a great time with it and I hope that it brings you more joy than frustration!

I had a mechanic contact me a few years ago, he was having some electrical problems with a Jalpa & wanted to know what a certain relay operated. My car worked 100%. So I pulled that relay out. It was the same position that was causing him problems. So I go put the relay back in & all of the sudden I had the same exact problem he did. I pulled the relay back out, checked it, it was fine. Still nothing. A new relay, again nothing. Wtf did I just do crossed my mind. I pulled the plastic cover off that the relays plug into. One of the terminals had came off. I pressed it back on & now everything is back 100%. This turned out to be the fix on the other Jalpa as well. Before you go crazy on the electrical problems, focus on that relay panel!!!
