Egear doesn't prime with door opening?

Everyone mentions that their egear pump runs once their drivers door is opened. Is mine the only one that doesn't do this? My pump fires just fine once the key is in the ignition and in run. I just always thought that was normal.

If this is an issue, how can I fix it?

Sounds like your battery may be low. Try charging it or changing it if it hasn't been changed in a few years.

Are you serious?

Read what the bloke wrote again and again if you need.

I assume by "in run" he means engine running, which would tell you the battery is strong enough to start the car and therefore definately strong enough to run a tiny e-gear pump, which starts when the key is in the ignition.

Hey there, sounds like you have an electrical fault in the door switch which activates the e-gear pump relay.

Easy tiger...

Low battery voltage causes all types of crazy issues. A common one is not priming the E-gear pump.

Charging the battery is a free fix.

Car uses the same door switch for the interior lights as the e-gear pump.

+1

Had all kinds of stuff go wrong that was due to loose battery terminal connections. Easy / cheap fix and all was in perfect working order.

Well I replaced the battery and the egear pump, and relay. Still doesn't prime when the door is opened. Any ideas? The door opening turns on interior lights and shows the door is open on the dash.

This is an issue because you have to turn the key and wait 7-8 second before you can turn it over because it requires pressure. Seems to work find otherwise.

I saw a post somewhere that the computer may need to be reprogrammed but can't seem to find it.

You are going to have to get a LARA or something of the sort to look at live data.

At this point you need to know what is/is not being commanded.

Come on Mike, thought you were smarter than that.

If the E gear runs with key on which draws even more current than just opening the door and the E gear primes after the engine starts?

Yea, OBVIOUSLY the battery is at fault

Do you have feelings for Tara or something?

I get this on occasion as well. I know the battery is good since it is somewhat new and I keep it on a trickle and I test it at the pigtails that hook into the trickle. One thing my mechanic told me is that if you have already opened the door and it primed either through starting or just opening the door, then it most likely will not prime again if you step out of the car and reenter later. Not sure of the time period involved with that reentry, but that's what mine does. He also mentioned a good test to see if it is the door switch is causing the issue is to check the interior light right when you open the door (if the interior light does not come on, then the door switch could be the issue with the car not priming). I think someone mentioned that reasoning above. Now talking about that priming noise, there is one high pitch noise when I open my door which I figure that is the priming noise. Then when I turn the key where the dash lights come on there is a much louder growl noise that happens before I turn the key to the start position. If these are both priming noises, why is the noise when turning the key much louder? Maybe that is also operating different things too, such as fuel injection?

I get such funky starting issues on occasion that I just attribute it to the alarm system and no longer worry about it and accept it as the norm. For instance when getting gas, I get back in the car and of course it does not start. But I know if I sit there and turn on the alarm and then turn it off, then it will start. I have even tried shutting the door, getting ready with the gas nozzle to pump and then arming the car to see what happens; but when you arm the car at that point the gas lock gets in the way making it difficult to fill, ha ha I love it! I know that is not a priming issue, but just hollering out with a somewhat related thing...gee!

Hey there.

I take it your alarm is aftermarket and not factory fitted?

If that is the case then it certainly points to an alarm issue if the car starts after an arm/disarm as you mention.

I know of general cars in the past that have all sorts of electrical gremlins with aftermarket alarms.

^You don't seem to know much about the alarm system in the Murcielago/LP6x0 series. And yes, the OP was talking about a Gallardo but you can tell what car JanDaMan has from his avatar.

The pump doesn't pump at all times, if there's sufficient pressure, it needs not to. But the car is likely not a DD, so it should prime when one occasionally opens its door. Like one member had said, you likely need LDAS/LaRA to fully diagnose what the issue is; a visit to the dealership may be inevitable.

Yeah it's the original funky finicky alarm of the LP640 that I have just learned to accept "as is" and not freak out over it. I guess my main point in my lengthy post for the OP is as mentioned, the pump will not prime when opening the door each time. But I understand that it should after a long sit. I got thrown off by not understanding that at first.

This being a Lamborghini forum, who knows? Improbable, likely; impossible, never say never.

XSNRGY come clean, how many anger management classes have you missed?

Whatever Fortis, not worth it. His name does say he has XS NRGY so go figure.

One of the funniest things I ever saw was when I was going to a stress counseling session.

This guy goes up to the receptionist and says: "Hi, I'm here for the anger management classes."

Receptionist: "I'm sorry, but that's in Kaneohe, and the highway is shutdown right now due to a major accident. You'll probably be an hour too late."

Guy starts yelling: "ARE YOU fcuking SERIOUS!?!?" :lol2:
