from factory.

Here’s a sneak preview of the astonishing carbon fibre Monocage II body structure of the second-generation McLaren Super Series, which will be launched to the world at the Geneva International Motor Show on March 7, 2017.

‘Super Series personifies the blend of extreme performance, crafted luxury and unparalleled driver involvement that is the McLaren heartland,’ said McLaren Automotive CEO, Mike Flewitt. ‘This is the first time we have replaced a product family and the new Super Series will be absolutely true to McLaren’s pioneering spirit in being a revolutionary leap forward, both for our brand and the supercar segment.’

The carbon fibre structure is the key to the car’s game-changing specification, being both ultra lightweight and extremely rigid. It will help the new Super Series to achieve a lightest dry weight of just 1283kg – significantly less than its closest competitor and 18kg lighter than the already featherweight McLaren 650S.

Lightness and strength are not the only benefits that Monocage II will bring. With a wider entrance, lower sill and slimmer pillars, the new Super Series improves access into a driver environment that will offer unparalleled all-round visibility. It will be a supercar without traditional supercar compromises.

McLaren is moving in the right direction and fast, I wish their cars would sound more exotic.

I am looking forward to seeing this new car, unfortunately it looks like they are going for the 570 design language, I think the 570 looks terrible, the front in particular, I kind of like the evolution of the 650, the P1 is beautiful IMO, that's one car I wish I bought when it was offered to me.

Hmm, I think the 570 is the best looking car they make. I assume you have seen one in person?

IMO I love what McLaren has accomplished and I feel it has made Lambo and Ferrari step up.

I don't love the resale values, but the 675/P1 is doing great, so it will be interesting to see how this all plays out.

I think the 570 is VERY colour dependent. The 2 tone versions look awful, solid dark colours don't look too bad.

With only a 18 kg reduction in weight, is this really a ground up new model or just another warmed over version of what they currently offer. Sounds like the latter.

Agree with Fortis. The 570's front headlights are too big which offsets the look of the front end. The rear ended isn't much better with the flower petal like tail lights. However the 675lt and the P1 design we're home runs!

Many times, it didn't help, better looking than the P1, 675LT?

My favorite 675 LT.

The car is a significant change from the 650S.

First off, completely new chassis (lower center of gravity, easier access with McLaren F1 style roof/door opening and lower side sills ala 570S, better driver visibility, lighter weight, forged carbon portions).

New 4.0 Liter twin turbo V8 with 720 hp, significantly more low end torque and reduced lag, already being fielded in the P1 LM cars that Lanzante are testing/producing.

Updated suspension configuration (rumor is electro hydraulic system)

Bigger wheels and tires.

Significantly improved aero.

All new interior.

Race/Track mode somewhat like P1's. Dash will drop lower for better driver visibility, stiffer suspension setting/optimized electronic controls/ride height control.

This car will have a better power to weight ratio than the 675LT with much better suspension and chassis.

Suggestions are that this car will essentially match a P1 on track.

Ridiculous car

Sounds awesome. Hopefully they drop like a rock so I can pick one up at 50% off MSRP used after a few years.

wow this sounds insane! my only fear is losing 100k in a year.. if they limit production like the 675 I'm in.

I was wondering how they were going to kill as good a car as the 675. That sounds like it will do a great job. Their biz model makes ownership very expensive but they do keep their product up to date and at the front nearly every year. Can't knock that, just very different from anything done before. It will be interesting to see how the established manufacturers respond and if they are forced to give up on building the same car for 6-10 years. Lambo has by far the longest product cycles and will have the hardest time getting the $ from corp to keep their products current.

When they introduce the hybrid variants on this chassis, it will be very interesting. Battery/electric tech is moving so fast, they soon will have very minimal weight impact.

The AMB-001 and AMG R50 will change the game on the hyper end, so it'll be curious to see how much influence that has on the supercar tier.

Mclaren nearly doubled sales this year over last and plan on introducing 15 new models over the next 6yrs. Seems like they starting to thrive and will have some interesting options in the coming years.

That's the killer, you get murdered on depreciation, buy a LT at a premium the next year model is faster and better and its only 12 months away, 12 months later the LT of the better version is here.

Too much money to lose on these fast laptops on wheels they get obsolete faster than the iPhone.

The LT is special, however good the new P14 will be. It's like a modern Ferrari F40. It will still be lighter than the P14, so it's unlikely that the P14 can have the same feel of rawness. It will be akin to the 488 following the speciale (with a bit more of a technology jump).

Lightweight rwd mid engine car with a laggy powerful v8 twin turbo with raw, exciting feel on both road and track without needing to resort to excessively quick steering. Which car am I describing here?

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I find it very unappealing, yet everyone seems to drool all over it.

I saw a 570 around here, closely before and after seeing a 650 and 675. the 570 looks like the ugly fat friend to me.

that said I've never been a fan of the rear of the MP4-12C or 650, but i can overlook it. the headlights and 2 tone on the 570 i can not.
