murcivu Report post Posted July 30, 2017 Story of my life. Swore I would never buy another e-gear again, but had to pick up Nick's LP640 that was listed in the classifieds. 2nd time driving the car, after a hard pull, the gear went to N and would not shift to R or 1. Turned off ignition & restart. This time however, R still doesn't engage but upshifting from N would shut off the engine. Tried restarting a few times and same thing happens every time, engine shuts off. No error lights on the dash. Battery reading 13.4V Nick has been helpful trying to diagnose. Car has a new kevlar clutch. Hope it's not an engine out like my previous Murci. That would suck. Any thoughts or suggestion? Thx! Shamile Report post Posted July 31, 2017 Haha....I just had this issue! I had a problem where the egear would start upshifting by itself. It then went to it would only engage reverse and not first and paddles would not put it back to neutral. Only if you turned off the engine would it go back to neutral but would only engage reverse. I had it towed to the shop and the computer showed upshift paddle error. Meaning as if the paddle was held too long...but I never did that. A few minutes to clear the code and I told the shop to test drive it for 2 weeks. This because of a total egear system harness pull and replace all the modules taking 6 months. Anyways, the computer error clear did the job. I just picked up the car Friday and have put 280 miles on it this weekend....no problem so far. murcivu Report post Posted July 31, 2017 Try getting a new battery. Battery is fairly new. Voltage always hold steady at 13.4 Car starts up every time and idles perfectly. If you hold the right paddle will it stay in first gear? Mine had an issue with the bonnet closed switch that created the same symptoms as you are describing. It won't even go into 1st. Made sure bonnet was closed. No warning lights came up on the dash. Haha....I just had this issue! I had a problem where the egear would start upshifting by itself. Hope it's just as simple as clearing a code. Fingers crossed. Glad to hear your's is doing fine though.
Lambofan35 Report post Posted July 31, 2017 If you hold the right paddle will it stay in first gear? Mine had an issue with the bonnet closed switch that created the same symptoms as you are describing. Couldn't sleep so I was reading this...interesting idea here. Maybe check the front and rear hood/bonnet again by opening and closing them just in case. Try putting the car on ignition only, will it let you go into gear forward or backwards? Technically the car doesn't have to be on to move into 1st or, r, n. If this is the case then try to start it, I think it will go back to neutral but at least see if this part is functioning. Makes me miss my STS even more now. Absolutely zero problems with that car.
sprite Report post Posted August 1, 2017 This sounds different than the typical e-gear failures. Normally the issue is with the actuator or the accumulator, this almost sounds like it's more related to the clutch. The stalling you initially got is not normal. I think actuator problems normally throw e-gear light and accumulator problems at least start gradually and does not result in 100% shift failure rate, at least not in my case and my friend's LP640 that currently has the same issue. Shamile Report post Posted August 2, 2017 Silly question.....did you check the egear fluid reservoir to see if it was up to level?

JonV8944s Report post Posted August 3, 2017 Thx Sprite. Hoping that's the case. Definitely do not want to have to replace either of those. Haven't had the chance. Car is already in the shop. If you are losing fluid, you would know it, my vote is its not this. I would try a relearn of the egear (you need a lambo computer to do this) and I'd do a egear snap to make sure you have enough clutch life. Also check the codes. some simple issue with egear is the paddles 'sticking', egear button going bad, battery issues (I agree this isnt your issue), or speed sensors going bad (there are two in the transmission, or a front bonnet or rear engine hood being left open (but you'd know this issue by the display saying something was open), what someone said is true, you can 'force it' to hold a gear by holding the paddle down, and it will override it kicking out of gear (usually if its a 'something is left open' situation). most people send theirs off to get worked on, but I have personally worked on lp640 egear and murci egear, replaced my own clutch, AND replacement my own transmission. So I'd say I have some decent first hand knowledge of usual suspects. Thanks, Jon

Stimpy Report post Posted August 9, 2017 I hate Egear! It's one thing to have to keep a $20K e-gear emergency fund ready to spend at a drop of a hat for imminent egear failures, but it's another thing to constantly risk being stranded by the quirky system that has been designed with 20 single points of failure. That's what keeps me from getting one.

murcivu Report post Posted August 24, 2017 Short of pulling the engine, Lambo of Dallas could not find anything. They're thinking perhaps it's the actuator not being aligned properly after the clutch change. Don't know enough to comment. Thoughts? Shamile Report post Posted August 30, 2017 Engine/tranny is coming out Will know something by end of the week. Unbelievable! Please let us know. I am so sick of e gear issues. I have put 12k miles on my 06 Murcielago Roadster in 2 years and have spent $17k on so many misc issues....egear ecu, abs ecu, wiring harness trace, paddles assembly for microswitch, 2 brake switches, 4 tows to shop for computer diagnosis etc... I'm thinking of converting it to stick. As much as I want an Aventador, I fear even more issues as that car gets older. I miss my damn Diablo VT Roadster. You won't come out ahead financially, even f you can even get past the finish line (no solid confirmations of anyone making it) of the conversion. The aventador is a different system all together, ISR vs E Gear. I haven't heard of many problems (or nearly as many) with the Aventador ISR as compared to the horror stories of the pre-LP e gear.
