kinnsella Report post Posted November 30, 2017 looking for suggestions, tips, etc.. before I book I wanted to check with LPers on this destination. thank you The beaches are amazing, white sand. Check out the cenotes for diving, my personal favourite. https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Revi..._Peninsula.html If you get over to Cozumel via ferry through Playa Del Carmen, dive this. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devil%27s_Throat_at_Punta_Sur This is where we stay. It's a bit OTT but comfortable, clean, private and safe. https://www.homeaway.com/vacation-rental/p287565 PM me for a private cook that will do shopping and cook three meals a day. profunctional Report post Posted November 30, 2017 awesome brother! appreciate that! I have been twice. Stayed at Maya Tulum. All healthy food and rustic. Rooms right on the beach. No ac and you don’t need it. Internet only in the main common area. Great place to unplug if that is what your looking for. I saw some celebrities right on the beach. Place is all peace and love. Yoga etc.
Lightning Report post Posted December 1, 2017 I love that area and will actually be heading back to the Riviera Maya for 15 days next week (returning home right before Christmas). Stayed at the Grand Bahia Principe Tulum our first trip and are going to the Iberostar in Playa Del Carmen this trip. We are going to take a ferry over to Cozumel one day to check out their sister resort as well and to see if its worth another trip in the years to come. It is gorgeous down there and the beaches and ocean are amazing. We also found that (despite the current race tensions that would lead people to believe otherwise), people were super friendly down there. Tips; -Don't take the "Don't drink the water" tip lightly. "Montezumas Revenge" is a real thing. You'll spend days regretting that mistake. Bottled water everywhere! -If you do wander off the resort to explore in that area, just be careful. That area all the way up to Cancun is the biggest tourist area in Mexico, and they absolutely prey on tourists who are out of their element. -We took a trip to 2 different ecological/water parks when we were there, loved them both. One was Xel-ha (pronounced "Shell Ha", and the other was Xcaret (pronounced, "Excadet" if I recall correctly). Both cool and very popular excursions that are worth the trip if you feel like leaving the resort. -If you are staying at an all-exclusive, most of them are used to not getting tips so the people that do tip will become favorites quickly and receive awesome service. We found that $2 bills created a lot of excitement when left as most of them had never seen one and assumed it was a $20. Hope you have a good trip! Lightning Report post Posted December 1, 2017 PS - Bill ever been to Jamaica? That was by far our favorite vacation thus far, the people in that country are amazing (to the point where I actually have friends on facebook now that we met at the resort who have stayed in touch with us, locals not other tourists). Can't wait to go back. Just throwing out an option for a vacation that had a similar "vibe" of laid back, tropical relaxation. eaks Report post Posted December 1, 2017 My wife just got back from Grand Bahia Principe Tulum and was not happy at all about the resort. I have been down in that area 4 or 5 times over the last few years and its decent.. I got married at the Royalton (2 or 3 years ago) and it was by far the best all inclusive I have ever been to (checkout the hideaway which is part of the same resort but you are able to get butler service/ect).. I have had friends rent a place in cabo and cancun and that is another great way to go especially if you want to escape and have a more private experience.
