We should get on our knees and thank Lamborghini !

Recommended Posts

This past weekend Mclaren of Palm Beach was in town and i got an invitation to go and test drive some of the new 570s Spiders. Event was done well and there were a great selection of cars. The cars look ridiculously good in every angle and very baby P1 looking. To me they look better than 12c, 650s and even the 675LT. The are stupid fast and I can see why they leaven our V10s and V12s behind in a straight line. I had a 30 min test drive and was thoroughly impressed with everything except the sound. Just non-existent.

I left with the actual though running thru my mind that I should pull the trigger one one of these. I look and sure as hell I see some used ones already in the $150k range. So i am like this has to be a bargain of the century for a 2016 car. So for first time i join mclarenlife forum and do some reading and holy shit. The number of quality control issues are endless with these cars. I have over the last 1-2 years seen a bunch of "social media friends" that got into one of these cars and were literally out in months and always seeing comments as "car in the shop all the time etc" but i kind of didnt as details and wasnt that interested.

If you go to the first 2 pages of of the forum every 4th-5th post is about some major issue. We are not talking about cars that are out of warranty of decades old. Some of these cars have these issues after literally being dropped off by carrier or issues before 500 miles of use. Here are the issues that are just mentioned by owners in the first couple of pages of the forum

1) coolant system failure where expansion tanks splitting in half and leaving people stranded

2) transmissions that have failed needed replacement

3) rear end oil leak from different sources

4) interior trim pieces that just fall off because they were installed literally with velcro or double sided tape (with pics attached by owners lol)

5) Key fobs that car doesnt recognize and leaving owners stranded sometimes hours away from home or from dealer

6) radio system with no sound

7) door latches breaking

8) doors that suddenly open while driving lol

9) one owner had so many issues he had his car lemon'd and mclarean gave him a brand new 2018 one and within one week same issues started showing up with the second car

I left the forum thinking wow we are so lucky cause as involved as I am in the Lambo world I do not hear these stories. Sure you will see some random crap like with any other brand but we really do have quality way way way above the crap they are dealing with. And if you think this is just for the 570s oh no. The 650s, 675LT and even the 720s are having issues.

I wouldn't get on my knees to thank them for delivery a product that functions properly, :lol2:

However I would raise holy hell if I bought a McLaren and it had a never-ending list of problems. Or just sell it and be done with it.

I suppose the reliability is a strong show from the Audi influence with the brand. That has definitely helped with QC.

True unless you were one of those owners lol.

And the endless excuses that other owners reply with anytime someone mentions a problem is really funny. I see comments as "hey they are a new company they will get it right" , "Mclarens are hand built so these issues are more common" as in interior pieces in a Rolls Royce are installed using velcro or double sided tape. Or my favorite "if you want a car that is reliable buy a Toyota"

Funny you mention this as a friend of mine returned his 570 to Mclaren after owning it for a month and he says he will never buy another Mclaren again.

This doesnt seem to be an exception either. You really would think since all the issues with 12c, they would have their products vetted better but it seems like they are just slapping shit together to move and make money with minimum **ks given to QC.

Thank you for the report. From what I've heard and seen, your findings are totally correct.

Reality is cruel and the owners are the best and worst judges. It stands the reason as to why these cars drop like stones in the used market. Same thing happened to Aston Martin years ago which they never really recovered from and now McLaren's have taken that negative reign.

I have a friend that lives in Palm Beach and bought a 675LT from that dealer, after more than six months being "repaired", they lemoned it.

Thank you Lamborghini for the excitement and for giving me the greatest way to spend time with the woman I love. I am so happy to spend every vacation in a two seat 12 cyl car enjoying my free time with the woman I love and having crazy adventures all over the world.

as for being on my knees for Lambo.... sure. I will leave that to the co-driver of TeamSalamone who is ready and willing to show appreciation for these crazy sexy machines.

This summer we have planned to cross the USA; Europe; and Asia (travel around the world) in our Lambo. I really am very thankful and I thank God that I found such an amazing passion and for the people I met through Lamborghini. Lamborghini is a lifestyle. I am loyal and I absolutely love everything about the experience. I cant wait to get rid of my Bentley for a Urus and to get an SVJ to keep my 2nd SV company after it comes out of the whole "around the entire world" trip... Gumball3000 20th and goldrush 10th.

The Company Lamborghini has treated me so well and yes... this passion has of mine has really made me grateful and the good people at Lambo; at the dealer; the sales and the service ... I was blown away with how I was treated. Everything I expected and more

People inherently hate admitting when they are wrong, and will make a long list of excuses to validate their position. Especially when it comes to cars! :lol2: you should see what i saw about cars i’ve had/want and what i let slide!! :lol2:

I will say, i went to the McLaren Technolgy Centre for business right after the launch of the 12C, they hadn’t broken ground on the “new” factory yet and i can tell you, that the MTC is impressive and breathtaking. We were focusing on the F1 applications, so the QC is a bit different than road legal cars, but i suspect the issues might be a “bitten off more than they can chew” kind of production problems. It’s a damn shame because i have a soft spot for them. Would be nice if they can nip the problems in the butt and get things focuses on the image the company portrays.

A good friend of mine has a 570 S and beats the living day lights out of it. He hasn’t had any issues in one year of ownership.

I've had the 12C, 650s and 720s. The 12C and 650S never went in for any issues. The 720S is going in for an intermittent airbrake issue next week and to get the door screens installed so I stop ingesting rocks in the doors.

As for Lambos, my two Gallardo's never had any issues, my STS went in for fuel pump issues and my Huracan had an exhaust rattle they fixed.

Yeah, McLarens aren`t known for their reliability. You either are very lucky with them, in-between, or completely fucked. Heard the latest widespread issue is key fobs that they are replacing for the 720S due to some electric issue (?). I mean production version of the 720S is quite decent reliability wise compared to older Macs. I still can`t get over the shitty press cars that they provided back in the launch days of the 720S.

I mean, Lamborghini too has issues sometimes. But those issues aren`t as widespread as McLaren`s (apart from Aventador`s "firey" exhaust system issue which they did a recall for). Still Aventador seems to have some gremlins lurking between different cars like the transmission issue and etc. Unlike at McLaren, I don`t hear each month about new issues at Lamborghini.

If you want a foolproof reliable supercar, I think Huracan is the supercar to get. It and the R8 are probably most reliable supercars you can get on the market today.

Isn't that the general mindset for most if not all of the British cars? :icon_mrgreen:

Sucks to hear the McLaren's have so many issues, I've heard the same sentiment from friends of mine who have them that they are constantly in the shop. I've driven 2 570S' against 2 Huracans back to back for a combined 100+ miles, here are my thoughts:

570S Coupe - It's nimble and light, and for a car that isn't analogue it feels very analogue, which is a hard trick to pull off. When it first launched I thought it was a bit ugly, but after seeing the 720S I think the 570S is pretty cool looking (though McLaren hasn't made a truly good looking car except for the F1 and P1). The sound is non-existent from the exhaust and the brakes have far too much travel before they bite, which is a bit unnerving. Also, the transmission, even in track mode, would still auto-up shift for me which was annoying. As far as driving feel, it feels like a rocket powered go kart as the RWD and setup inspires a lot of confidence. There was a hint of noticeable turbo lag when putting the power down, but the car is still very responsive. The DCT is too clever and shifting is a bit too smooth (boring) for my taste. Overall it's a fun car, but it's flaws in the looks, transmission, sound and brakes make other exotics much more appealing.

570S Sypder - Very similar to the coupe but for some reason it feels much better. The exhaust on spyder I drove also sounded much better and having the roof down helped immensely. Interestingly, to drive, the Spyder felt a bit more stable and fun than the coupe, and I actually liked the spyder version 10 times more than the coupe. the issies with the transmission and brakes is still present. McLaren's very typically don't evoke much emotion but the sypder actually evokes some driving joy. It must be the open air experience.

Huracan Spyder - With AWD and a V10, the Huracan feels very different from the 570S. The V10 has a beuatiful roar and sounds great at any rpm but the biggest difference is that the Huracan feels very "alive" when you're driving it. Throw it in corsa and you can red-line the engine as much as you want (no auto-up shifting), the brakes have a great feel and power delivery is instant. Looks wise you can't beat a Lambo, but when it comes to driving feel, it's apples and oranges between the 570S and Huracan. The AWD gives a different feel and makes the Huracan feel slightly less agile than the 570S, though the Huracan is a very nimble car. The acceleration in the Huracan is a little more aggressive, though with the DCT it's still a little to smooth and clever for it's own good.

Haracan RWD Spyder - The RWD version takes all the fun and things the Huracan does great and adds the more agile feel of RWD to it. The RWD Huracan probably has the 2nd best driver's feel of the Huracan range after the Performante.

I actually did a full article you can checkout here (and you can read my thoughts on other cars as well).

Overall:

Different strokes for different folks, but I'd say that if you want a tight turn tearing tracker, the 570S is a great way to go, but if you want a legit supercar you can't beat the V10. The McLaren is good, but in my opinion the Huracan is the better car overall. Though to be honest, the raw, single clutch Aventador is superior to both of these cars because it's a proper V12, properly aggressive and looks better than anything else out there. So my final though is when it comes to the Huracan or 570S, trade both in and get an Aventador. My 2 cents. :icon_mrgreen:

I don’t know why but I feel the 570 is McLaren’s Portofino, I know why they built it but I don’t know why it has to exist :icon_mrgreen:

Yup lol.

Since we are voicing our favorites at the moment, here are mine:

My favorite production Mac at the moment is 570S (Spyder preferably). It sounds the best of all McLarens, it is the one that is the most fun to drive and dare I say the one that actually looks best all around (I like 720S`s design overall minus the front).

Favorite Lamborghini at the moment: A tie between SV Roadster and Performante Coupe. Both are very different and both are unmatched in drama, feel, and design. Words can`t explain those cars, they need be experienced. That`s why Lamborghini is my favorite brand of these high end Supercar makers.

Favorite Ferrari in production at the moment: The 812 SF, it is the only Ferrari that one can still have some fun in (minus the ThethetheFerrari). Other cars in the line-up are a bunch of vacuum cleaners that don`t do it for me.

Dollar Bill had a bunch of those and when I sat in them I thought that they were extremely well-engineered, but that was just from what you see and feel sitting in them. So to learn that there are quality issues (major ones) with a brand selling itself on engineering is off-putting.

Nevertheless - complaints come through loudly, but how many cars are out there without issue? I laughed yesterday when I saw a big sign on Biscayne Blvd in Miami (somewhere around Morningside):

"Come in and try the worst pizza that one guy on Yelp ever had"

We have similar tasts...

Favorite Present McLaren: 570S Spyder. Ditto what you said, especially since the P1 is no longer in production.

Favorite Present Lamborghini: The SV (coupe and Roadster) are the top. A few points behind I'll put the Aventador S (coupe and roadster). The Performante is my favorite of the Huracan range, especially the spyder.

Favorite Present Ferrari: The La-Ferrari. I like the 488 (except for the front bumper). I'm waiting to get a good amount of time with the 812 before passing judgement. I like the F12, the TDF is ugly in my book but badass where as the regular F12 looks nice. The GT4C Lusso and Portifino I feel look a lot better than their predecessors. I feel Ferrari needs to fire their guy responsible for naming the cars, because of the modern cars only the 488 & F12 has a decent names, but the rest pretty much are terrible (GT4C Lusso, Portifino, 488 Pista, La-Ferrari F12 TDF).

The 365 GTC/4, 250 GT Lusso, and 250 GT TDF are all notable Fs from yesteryear commanding big bucks today.....cars from the golden age '50s to early '70s. Hopefully they'll be at Quail's.

812 Superfast is a take on the old 500 Superfast BTW.....if that means anything in your final conclusion. :lol2:

I heard it was intended (or might actually be) for La-Ferrari to be the complete name of the car. In that context it's great, otherwise...

Pista, Portofino, Fiorano is for us Italian(-Americans) to love..... just like we are the only ones who can love Maserati the brand. :icon_mrgreen:
