Hello ALL and Why all the hatred against Ferrari

I usually just read this board and have never posted. I am just a little curious why some of you guys, coughAllenLambocough, are always hating on Ferrari's, especially the new 430. I know it's not superior to the Lambo name, but it will wack any stock Lambo ever made on almost any type of race coarse. Yes they are cheaper cars and a little less image orientated, but are still super cars. Why the disrespect. It still your Italtian cousin.

BTW, my name is John and own a tuner shop in North Jersey. I mainly specialize in Supra/EVO/DSM's. A DSM is an Eclipse or Talon and are the streets top budget bruiser. You can build a 400whp pump gas 3000lb car for under $10,000 including the car running a mid-high 11 at around 117-124mph. I'm sure you all know about Supras and EVO's.

I have only one Lambo customer with a 99 Diablo Roadster MOMO edition. It has a plaque inside the car stating that it's 1/12. I drove it to Atlantic City in NJ for a car show where it took first place. It has just a few mild upgrades. It's not fast for me, but it makes you feel like a million dollars driving it.

I myslef own a 95 Eclipse GSX street/race car, 720awhp/601awtq. A 93' Lexus SC300 with a 2JZGTE swap (Supra TT engine), 6-spd, T66 DBB single turbo upgrade. Lastly an 03' red/red 6-spd M3.

It's nice to be on your board.

I dislike a lot of Ferrari's because they sound tinny and are just noisy, not nice noise at all.

You mentioned the 430, I hate that purely because it looks cack  and is WAY too much of a footballer's car. *spit*

Welcome and enjoy the boards :)

I for one, respect and admire Ferraris, despite one perceived flaw: for the price, compared to others at a similar/lesser price, the performance is just so-so. I cannot justify spending $200K plus on a 360 or 430 given the car's performance stats.

But I am most certainly not among hardcore Ferrari fans who I suspect, admire Ferraris for many of the same reasons many of us admire Lambos: their heritage, their sound, their visceral appeal and their sexy lines. As such, I'd bet that a Ferrari will be in my stable but right now, today, a Lambo is what thrills me more than even my stellar 996TT did.

The 355 is still one of my favorite cars of all time. The 360, from the side, seems to have a striking resemblance to the Celica....the 430's rear haunches and underbelly are pure sex, IMHO, but the Lambo is sexier still.

I think we all poke fun at our Ferrari friends a bit...this is a Lambo site of course, but I'd bet that on a polygraph, many of us would be forced to reveal that F cars, P cars, even Supras and bad-ass AWD DSM's are a whole lot of fun. Count me among them.

John -

WELCOME TO L/P :supz:

it's not so much the cars (F's) -

it's the attitudes of some of the owners -

John

Welcome to the board.

Your 1st post and you want to stir things up.Hmmmm. :-k

It is a Lambo board after all. Some of the guys already beat me to it but i will elaborate. We don't hate all Ferraris, just most of them because in a lot of cases they just don't measure up to the hype.

As Robbi mentioned, drive a 360 and after you have driven one tell me how you feel about the car specially if you paid over 200k for one.The 360 is not the only Ferrari to fall in that category. How about the 328,348,355,456,550,612.

Not one of those cars is exciting.

To add to that,Ferrari dealers treat everybody like shit and a large majority of the owners have attitude.

The 430 finally has really good performance but it would not have happenned if the Gallardo didn't show up on the scene.

That is a brief summary

Enjoy the site

Welcome to L/P!

Interesting choice for your first post.

I'd say there are MANY reasons some here dislike Ferrrari's.

Some dislike the fact that Ferrari creates a "false market" for their cars and artificially inflate the prices.

Some dislike the performance of Ferrari's. Seems until the 430 came out, Ferrari's weren't very fast ( unless you paid a HUGE premium for an F50, Enzo, Etc ).

Some dislike the styling and overall appearance of Ferrari's.

Some dislike the HIGH maintence costs of scheduled service intervals.

I am sure there are more reasons some dislike Ferrari's.

Remember though, just because someone like "coughAllanLambocough" dislikes the 430 or the performance of his own 355, doesn't mean his dislikes EVERY Ferrari - he does like at least one Ferrari model.

-James Miller

P.S. The performance of the 360 BLOWS, and the styling of the 430 BLOWS.

Why I hate Ferrari:

1- My local dealer sucks (the collection)

2- The prices are inflated

3- My 95 355 spider caught fire while I was driving it and almost killed me.

4- My wife made me buy another Ferrari product (Maserati Spyder) and it was such a piece of shit that after 9 months of ownership (72 days at the dealer) I lemon lawed the car and got my money back.

I have since seen at least 3 other 355's with electrical fires and one 360 burn because of wiring problems. The icing on the cake was seeing a 2001 360 spyder catch on fire inside The Collection's 20 million dollar building while the car was sitting in the showroom with the ignition in the "off" position. My salesman says that it was a bad battery charger, but my service advisor (I bought an A8L from them as well) said it was a wiring harness fire that had nothing to do with the battery charger.

And regarding the inflated prices, if your in miami have someone in the collection take you upstairs where you can really see how many ultra rare backordered ferraris that have hiding in their garage, you will be shocked.

If thats not enough reason to hate Ferrari's then get to know some Ferrari owners (especially the new ones that came along with F-1 shifting).

Thanks for the replies fellas.

The older Ferrari's are purly for image and saying "I have a Ferrari". And there's nothing wrong with that for the guy that just wants the status, and cares less about driving hard. I know a lot of older guys with many different exotics and I have driven most of them from 996 TT's to Lotus and all kinds of crap. I just turned 23 so most guys that I deal with are older than me. :)

360's are ALMOST just a "name/status" car. I have driven a normal 360 and a Stradalle. Nothing stellar about their acceleration, but I felt the same about the 6.0 as well. But I am not a fair person to test. I drive/bulid/tune wicked street cars all day long. Both 360's and Diablo's stop and turn very well. There's not many streets in this North East area to fully wring out those cars around a turn, even some of the Jap cars (Supras/EVO's) I put together get very tossable. You need a road coarse like Pocono or Lime Rock to find their limits.

Craig, nice to see a celebrity like yourself on this board. But why mock the 430's numbers? Seeing the 430's stats in Car and Driver got my blood a little hot. 11.7 @ 123 or something like that if I remember right. Murcie and Gallardo run around 12.1 @ 118, no? 5mph and 3-4 tenths will put that car considerably well ahead of you Lambo guys. For the money you pay for these cars, NEW, I'd expect the corporations to make the cars a little faster. I'm positive they can do it, reliably too, but the future cars will probobly suffer so they probobly raise the bar little by little now that I think about it. Ferrari really did make a huge jump though from the 360 to 430 acceleration. Possibly a little too much all at once. I dont think there's much room for improvement in the next 5 years or so when a F500 or some shit comes out. If they raise the HP level to 600 for a car for $200K and it runs 11.4@126, I'll be FULLY impressed and call the car perfection.

The exhaust note of the Stradalle wasn't that bad. The car was actually a little monotone for me, but the Diablo got a little boring after a while. Stab the throttle and it sounds good, but not great. These were cars with stock exhausts though. I heard a couple sounds clips of some of the newer Lambo's with aftermarket exhausts, they sounded a little nicer. I guess I am also not a valid person to give my opinion here. Driving a twin T61 DBB Supra with twin Tial 46mm bandclamp wastegates and twin Tial BOV's through a 4 inch Ti exhaust spoils me a little. I have owned 6 Supras before this Lex. My one friend has a yellow 360 Spyder 6-spd with a Tubi and I thought it sounded nice and raspy as he was driving away from my gym. Too bad I cought up to him in the Lex and wasted his ass. :finga:

But that car will still get him pussy 9 out of 10 X more than I will in any of my cars if a girl had to choose regardless of our looks.

The one thing I liked about the Diablo was the gearing. 60mph in 1st and 100 in 2nd is cool as hell. Being used to Supra's where the shifter is down and to the left puts you in 2nd and you're at 60mph. Lambo's lower left position is 1st and you still finish it to 60mph!!! It was a pretty wild sensation the first time I beat on the car.

My goal is to own an exotic before I turn 25. Ferrari or Lambo. If Ferrari, it'll be at least a 355 convertible or early 360 hardtop. I know the market value for those cars. If Lambo I'd have to find out what year/milleage Diablo will be a tad over $100K. I dont like loans or financing. I also know I'd have to do something instantly with the wheels of a Diablo of the earlier ones, as well as some minor body changes. I haven't fully researched both makes yet, so I am still fully undecided, but have driven both. If I had to pick this early it'll be the Diablo. V12 is cool and a TT V12 is cooler.

How many of you guys have the balls to do some serious mods to your cars other than intake/exhuast/ecu crap? I know there's not a lot of "kits" and shit but a major/highly talanted tuning/fab shop can do whatever you want. If one of you Diablo guys have the balls to give me your car to twin turbo it, I'd give you one major hell of a deal on labor. The exposure after a job like that will probobly make me have to move to a bigger building to handle more work. :) I know it's been done before, but still not enough.

Oh yeh, 612 definetly sucks. I really wouldn't even bother driving one.

Damn that's a lot of fires abolfaz.

About the attitudes of Ferrari owners, I think it's just speculation. You can talk to anyone with any type of high end car and get shot down pretty quick. There's not much of a difference between attitudes of Lambo owners and Ferrari owners. There's nice guys that'll talk to you and bad guys that'll shit on you from both parties.

To the first part - Car and Driver ran the 430 DOWNHILL to get those times - seriously. And a Murci runs faster than 12.1 @ 118MPH.

To the second part - "the exhaust tone of a Diablo got boring" - are you kidding? The sound of a V-12 is the most incredible exhaust note.

To the third part - no offense, but I don't know how many Owners are going to turn their cars over to a 23 year old for modding. Again, no offense, but at your age how much mechanical experience do you have with a Lambo? How much experience in general do you have with other cars, you have only been out of high school for what 5 years or so? I wouldn't let a 23 year old work on my Plastic mess-06. Not trying to flame you, but that's my opinion.

Good Luck

I hate on Ferraris, because i can. Ive owned quite a few, and looking at your list, i see youve owned NONE.

Go back and re-read your magazines on the 430 stats, then your Murci stats, and when you have the chance to personally test the 430's tracking ability, come back to us.

Im willing to bet, youve never even sat in a Diablo. Dont come here trying to promote your shop, and as for Balls, my Diablo as at a real shop as we speak, getting ready to be twin turboed.

Yes, i can see how you would be picky with Diablo wheels after driving an awesome Eclipse, or whatever else those other bombs you supposedly have.

As for the 355 SPider, i just sold mine, it was a POS.

I only like the Ferrari F50 and testarossa but other than that my opinon Ferrari is the supercar for girls because of the horse and that lipstick red.

I think the F430 is disgusting to look at. its terrible i wouldnt want to pay that much money for that when i could have a Gallardo or perhaps a Viper. Dont get me started on the 612 and how terrible that thing looks. if you seen one in person you would know why.

The Enzo is overated its not the Mclaren F1 but yet everyone and there dam momma jumped on the bandwagon and for what? a car that costs much more than the Mclaren and you have to own both the F40 and F50 in order for ferrari to decied whos going to be able to buy one. Pretty much that tells me what ferrari is all about.

Lamborghini on the other hand has much more to offer than race car technology at such a high price.

Do i have respect for Ferrari? Yea i do because without them Lamborghini would have never been. Do i like Ferrari? Not really. Do i hate Ferrari? I dont hate no one.

I really cant say we hate ferrari but its more of a Patriotoic thing like you favorite sports team.

As Lambo owners it's our duty to hate Ferraris and thus carry on the fine tradition of Ferrari baiting started by Ferrucio Lamborghini himself.

Bashing Ferrari is the sole reason Automobili Lamborghini was created.

I hate to say it, but I don't hate Ferrari.

Like many here, I had a Ferrari before the Lambo. They, IMHO, are not in the same class as Lambo. Ferrari is a high end sport car, while Lambo is an exotic / super car. Whole different breed of animal.

The 355 is a nice well balanced car, but way underpowered. The 360 is boring. The 430 is a wake up call for Ferrari with respect to power. Trying to sell a 380hp car for 200K does not make sense when every manufacturer is on the 500hp mark.

I have also owned several twin turbo Porsches's... don't hate them either. Last week I purchased a Ferrari - 67GT1000 which I'm going to restore and sell.

I can also tell you that even when I had an FCar and a Lambo would pull up next to me, I was jealous. Every FCar guy will tell you the same thing if he is honest.

Just part of the evolution process, POS guys want Porsches, Porsche guys want Ferrari's, Ferrari guys want Lambo's, and Lambo Guys want what they have.

My $.02
