New 2016 GTR ? Hybrid..

Nissan is pushing hybrid technology to its limits with its Nismo ZEOD RC LeMans racer set to challenge this year’s 24 hour race from the experiment “Garage 56″ starting position. Next year, though, Nissan will run the full WEC season with an as-yet-unrevealed LMP hybrid … and the high-tech bits from that car will see street duty in the 2016 Nissan R36 GTR.

While details on Nissan’s 2015 contender are scarce, its 2014 entry is already on the cutting edge – but Nissan execs are already saying that 2015 will see something “a little bit different” to what Audi, Porsche, and Toyota are doing.

What will that be?

No idea – but we can play the (somewhat educated) guessing game, right? Will it be electric turbochargers in keeping with the Nissan GTR’s existing digital reputation? What about a hybrid turbocharger like Porsche’s? Maybe we’ll finally see a practical application of ZF’s SmartShock technology – which would make sense in a car that has sporting intentions AND tips the scales at nearly 2 tons.

At that price point wouldn't you be pretty close to a bolt on TT on an early G? I'd take that over any GTR. I'm sure it will be impressive but it seems to me they are making an already awkward looking car even worse, if that preview is anywhere near legit.

This and a new 2016 R36 GTR seem very unlikely unless Nissan intends to break a tradition --- something that large Japanese corporations seldom, if ever, do.

The GTR, Skyline or not, had always been announced/unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show which occurs once every 2 years (in odd years). Even the concept & prototype versions of the current GTR were unveiled there (in 2001 & 2005 respectively). The last TMS was in Nov. 2013 so the next show will be in Nov. 2015. The only possibility would be the announcement being made in 2015 and the car being sold as a MY2016. It may be the case for the North American version but usually, Japanese cars shown in TMS will be available for purchase at the dealership within one month after their debut.

well the concept is out. 2020.. I am sure the official car won't be exactly like this but will share some characteristics. If they keep the price under 120k and 800HP. count me in !

That may offer some hints to what's being proposed/conceptualized/considered; however; you do realize those renderings were done on the basis of Sony's invitation for car manufacturers to submit their digital concept cars for the next chapter of PS4's Gran Tourismo.

Reminds me of the move "The Wraith".

If you haven't seen it, look it up.

I've been trying to find a way to watch this movie again. I haven't seen it in years. Amazing car for the year!
