Great pix - thank- you for giving the opportunity to view this special vehicle.

For 10 years I've been so quick to change those original two-piece Speedline wheels to something more contemporary. I've come back around to them, now. For one thing - being two-piece wheels, they're more exotic. And beyond that, I get the feel for the original design as-penned of the overall look of the Murcielago, with those wheels.

As an aside, there's a logo that's on the wheel lip that's very difficult to reproduce, should the wheels ever be refurbished. Images attached.

Hi Double,

Have you been able to find or reproduce the original logos?

I'm in the factory wheel business and up until now, these two-piece Speedline wheels weren't particularly desirable, so when we did have to recondition them, we didn't go the extra step for that small logo. But now the interests have shifted and I think that if we ever restore another set of this - we'll also do the logo.

It's not hard to do. A neighboring business does signs and vehicle wraps and can reproduce logos very easily. We restored a set of center-lock wheels and elected to have this business also do the logos. You can see the quality of them, below. Green background is reconditioned, vehicle image is original.

I'm in the factory wheel business

Double,

My Murci came with chrome Speedline wheels. I have Hercules on the car right now, and the Speedlines in the attic. The chrome is starting to pit on the Speedlines, and I think the chrome looks terrible compared to painted on these wheels.

What are your thoughts on painting them? Would the chrome need to be removed, or could the chrome be prepped for paint? Any idea of cost on getting them done properly in factory silver paint?

Sorry for the delayed reply. There are companies out there that will scuff and paint over chrome, and it won't hold up even if you never mount them. The chrome has to be professionally-stripped and the only ones that I know who do that well are the better chroming companies. We sometimes buy wheels that are chromed that we want to turn back into silver or aluminum finishes, and we ship them out to be stripped by the chroming company that we use, and then have them sent them back to us raw to then be final-finished. PM if you want the company that we recommend for chrome stripping. As for the final step of refinishing - just use a reputable local wheel refinishing company in your area. Body shops can be a challenge for this because they're usually unfamiliar with wheel finishes (in-terms of specific colors).

Actually, just remembered that these are two-piece wheels - you'll first be going to that local company for disassembly, and then sending the wheel pieces out to be stripped. If you're handy and have good tools, you can disassemble them yourself.

The whole deal with shipping, stripping, and refinishing will be $1000 to $1300 for the set. Remember - there's 8-pieces (4 wheels x 2 pieces/wheel).

Lastly, if you want to be 100%, then just take the pictures I've posted in this thread to a local sign shop or car wrap place and they'll make the little stickers for you. I think that we have an original wheel on-hand and if-needed, I'll take better pictures as well as measurements and advise exactly where on the wheel, the sticker should be.

Thanks for the excellent information, Double! I'll PM you about the chrome shop.
