Kerplop Report post Posted August 17, 2017 So here's the dealio, the Jalpa is nearing completion. I've already got a camera and DVR system for my house in place now that I'm growing paranoid about people following me back. I had a friend on LP who drove his RWB to come work on the car and a guy followed him to my house up to my driveway. We were all a bit on edge, and the dude clearly had no bad intent. BUT, you never know. That said, I've read of others who have caught people vandalizing their autos on camera. What do you guys recommend/use? What options do I have for things like mirror cameras, dash cameras, rear cameras, etc. That kind of stuff? Especially hidden stuff. Small, light weight, good quality, and a DVR system that can record it?
jhbchess Report post Posted August 17, 2017 I prefer the Springfield Loaded .45 ACP enhanced with Tracer laser grips for 360 degree target acquisition and general peace of mind. http://www.springfield-armory.com/press-re...1-loaded-model/
JanDaMan Report post Posted August 17, 2017 As far as a home system, I have Lorex 1080 high def with the DVR that came with it. Caught someone on my system and the police that viewed it couldn't believe how clear the video was, and that was at night. They eventually caught him since it was so clear. Just remember to buy a DVR o handle more cameras than you think you need because you will be adding more cameras the more you think of places to put the cameras. Mix em up, hide some and some visible. Bright motion lights are good too.

I know some people have cam systems that cover side windows, dash, rear, etc.
Kenny94945 Report post Posted August 17, 2017 I too have just begun looking to automobile "dash" cameras. Best I can tell is that 4 channel covers all the areas. 2 Channel is front and year. Then there are systems with LCD screens and systems that you either download video through WiFi or a cable. I only searched the 'net for automotive systems and can not comment if adapting a home system to your automobile is reasonable. Mounting systems, wiring and camera sizes vary greatly. Except for "china" made fish eye side cameras I do not see anything that is just a lens size camera especially for the side camera installation. Features function greatly also, GPS, speed, lane departure, disk size etc.... Night recording quality also varies greatly. Lastly, the ability to clearly read a license plate of another vehicle that is not directly in front of your vehicle seems impossible to me from the video samples I have reviewed on any brand. In conclusion most cameras work great, even $100 cost units, to show vehicle traffic patterns. IMO there are all not so great for high quality and specific identification. Many recommend the Black Vue as a brand, yet they are only two channel. With all that said, I don't think the side camera will help much. I door ding culprit may not show a license plate as it moves into and out of the space, so you would be dependent on the front or rear camera reading the license plate from an angle...a weakness based on my observation noted above. For vandalism, again one really needs that high quality for specific identification. So...I am in on thread to see what our co-members have discovered and put in use.
