Drop in door speaker replacement?

I don't know much about car stereos, and my ears aren't finely tuned enough to want to do the big stereo upgrade. But my driver door speaker has started falling apart -- the rubber diaphragm ring around the speaker has disintegrated.

The best option for me would be to buy upgraded speakers that drop right in using the factory connector and fitting under the factory speaker cover. Does something like that exist? And if so, where could I find a set?

The factory speakers list for $600 on lambo stuff, and I am sure $30 speakers at Walmart would be an upgrade over those.

Thanks in advance!

Took the old speaker to Best Buy to match it up physically to other 6.5” speakers.

Ended up with the S-S65 ALPINE - 6-1/2" 2-WAY COAXIAL pair for $90.

Dropped right in with no mods and kept the stock look. I had to make my own connectors which was easy.

Sounds just as good to me, so I am happy.

Sorry I'm late to this.....

And I just saw now that you've purchased a speaker and content with it. That's all that matters, congrats! :icon_pidu:

I'll leave this below for the record, hoping it helps someone that searches for a similar thread:

I'd say the biggest issue here is the actual mounting bracket diameter and mounting depth to see which speakers you can throw in.

Not all speakers fit the 6.5" mounting bracket without some work and/or some are too deep for the door. Some brands will sell a driver that's more 7" than 6.5" and it's a doable fit in most cars, but work is usually needed.

$600 for a pair can be beaten in the aftermarket without much effort (crossovers included). Even if you can/want to spend more, it probably won't bring the big returns and I'm not sure you're after that anyways.

Some brands I like:

Hybrid Audio, Phass, Morel.

http://www.phass.com/Phass_home/System_speaker.html (these might be too big)

https://hybrid-audio.com/speakers/imagine/ (anything more than Imagine is too large)

https://www.morelhifi.com/product-category/car-audio/ (Hybrid and lower is fine)

Dynaudio and Focal are ok in the lower to mid level stuff but their flagship stuff I find either overpriced or overrated.

Never was into Alpine for speakers and subs with the exception of an older speaker line called "F#1". Alpine used to sell a rebadged and modified Scan Speak Revelator and sold it as the F#1 (in 2 and 3 way versions). I haven't heard them but I'd imagine they are very good.

Thanks!

The new speaker is an inch taller and still fits fine, so there’s some extra room. It’s heavier too, but didn’t change the door opening on it’s own at all since the location is so close to the door hinge.
