Depressing for new ZR1 owners

Depends on how much the ZR1 owner cares about straight line racing and ego.

If the ZR1 is faster around VIR than a new Ford GT, then it probably is faster around it than the 720S as well.

What I found shocking was that it didn't put up a fight in the roll on race, where the Mac's mid engine configuration and launch control advantages were minimized.

More evidence the McLaren is underrated in hp/torque.

ZR1 still available in a manual. Might be more fun to drive.

And how many people go to VIR to test their cars ? All I hear is how bad the handling of the 720s is , total nonsense . In the real world , almost nobody can tell difference between any supercar or is good enough to make use of super handling , the bragging rights almost always end up being who is fastest in straight line and the 720s is a monster

That’s a good point ...

We see a ton of straight line racing ...

1/4 Mile ... Roll Racing ... 1/2 Mile ... Street Racing ... etc ...

When was the last time we saw the same guys running in the events above ...

Show up at a road race event ... Hmmm ...

weather conditions alone can account for a few 10ths down a 1/4 mile for the same exact car, same driver.... how anyone can take lap times seriously that are a few tenths apart, done by different drivers in different cars, in different conditions really is bizarre... there are just so many huge variables...

Also, I'd be very curious to know the seat of the pants feel of the cars in question. ETs don't always tell the whole story with that.

After driving the 720s I was pretty blown away how fast it is. Things just evaporate in your rear view.

I’m not the least bit surprised it dusted the Z. 720s is truly in hyper car league performance wise.

720S Should really be called 800S

Yeah, and apparently the new GT2RS is almost as underrated as the McLaren. Was just reading the comparo of the GT2RS v. the ZR-1 in C&D, and the GT2RS trapped 140 in the quarter, compared to the ZR-1's 131. Yet the ZR-1 supposedly has more power (and a lot more torque), and is only 250-300 pounds heavier.

Porsche's advantage is semi-slick Cup2 R tires. They aren't even available yet for customers who ordered the car. Take those away and it is slower than a 720S and Performante on the track on normal also sticky Cup 2s.

140 MPH would be awesome, but that's probably "corrected", surprised we haven't seen any real world numbers yet on the GT2RS...

I wondered about that, and think you're probably right, but that means the 131 for the ZR-1 was corrected also, and 9 mph seems like a huge difference. You think the Porsche is underrated or the Chevy is overrated (or some of both)?

Perhaps an overheating issue again like with the Plastic mess-06?

Doubtful after that headache.

One issue with the POS is having that much torque might be difficult to put the power down easily.

You and Chad need to get together and see how his 2RS lines up with the 720.

720S is just a beast. My 720S is the first production car I've driven in a long time where I feel like it has a little too much power for the chassis.

ZR-1 I'm sure has difficulty getting the power down even from a roll, but I didn't expect the 720S to be that much quicker.

Overheating wouldn't affect a quarter mile run (unless they had done several in a row), and I don't think there have been any reports of overheating issues with the ZR-1 thus far anyway. They were probably determined not to go through that debacle again. Would love to see a ZR-1 v. GT2RS roll on to see if the difference is really that pronounced.

it was so hot out that both cars were affected by the heat, I have vbox data for the races, my 720S was down about 5 MPH at the 1/4 mile mark (140) and the ZR1 was about 12 MPH behind 720S.... of course we also had passengers which slows things down and I didn't bother running the car on 1/4 tank either.

as for getting power down, I was surprised how well the ZR1 was doing, 0-60 in 3.2 isn't bad for a front engine high HP car, 720S was in the 2.8-2.9 range that day, the heat actually helped out on the launches, the 720S tires were so hot from the sun you couldn't keep your hands on them...

the ZR1 vs Huracan is really interesting... :)

Do fractions of an inch in acceleration really matter that much when comparing top end cars? Maybe its just me but the Corvette just doesn't do it for me in respect to style. It just doesn't make my loins churn although I try really hard to like the car especially for the bang for the buck aspect. I know we are probably just looking at speed & acceleration here, but to each his own I guess in looking at cars. Sometimes I think there is something wrong with me in not being attracted to the car itself because it doesn't really look that bad. Maybe I have some hidden Italian in me and don't know it.

Off topic but wow congrats on the new additions to your car collection

IMO none of it matters, to me anyway, what matters is what stirs your soul, also side by side line racing on the street makes me laugh, let's buy cars which the manufacturers tune for race tracks which have corners and run them in straight line side by side LOL

I am not saying it's not fun but if that's what you like doing there are plenty options out there more suited to it which cost less than a set of wheels people put on these exotics, if you still want to race your exotic in straight line of course you can do that but I wouldn't be too upset if I lost because that's not what they are designed to do, most manufacturers take different approaches in order to reach the goals their cars are being designed for, they aren't always focusing on the same metric.
