So I am going to look at this 997 cabrio this weekend, anyone have any thoughts? Price seems fair (keep in mind this is CAD) especially considering the ridiculous amount of money spent on Techart stuff. Only thing I would change is the wheels but thats easy enough. Would drive this a couple times a week.

I have never really considered purchasing a Porsche before but this one has really caught my eye. The fact that it has a real trans and 850hp is probably a big part of that though. It should also retain its value fairly well as well correct?

Thanks guys.

That car has been for sale for a long time if my memory serves me right, and is a tough sell for various reasons.

body kit

Modifications

Exterior/ interior colour

If you like it and want to buy it get it looked over by a body shop and a shop that could make sense of most of the modifications.

Good luck

Ask them for a DME report which will record how many ignitions the engine has gone over red line. Range 1 and 2 are generally accepted as not being any problem at all. Range 3 probably the same. Range 4 and above could indicate serious abuse and most folks say RUN.

It also depends on when the revs occurred. The report gives total engine operating hours and the hour when the most recent ignition over rev took place. If it was a long time ago and the car runs well (and has been well maintained) there's a good chance there was no significant damage in ranges 4-5-6. But if it's recent, you'd have no way of knowing.

It's also generally accepted that Porsche will not CPO a car with ignitions in ranges 4-5-6 although each situation has to be judged on it's own merits.

Here's a good explanation of what the DME report means, and how to understand the numbers.
