Aventador SV-J Discussion and New Information

The SV J won’t be a huge departure in terms of interior from the SV except the infotainment but I expect the architecture to stay the same, I think carbon door panels will be back, as for the Performante, I think the reason why we didn’t get them is because they didn’t want to combine the carbon weave with the composite, if they would’ve used the composite for the door cards I would’ve been out LOL.

Whatever material is on that door in pic doesn’t look good and I hope it’s not in final product

Haha : Velvet, velour, alcantara etc .. you know I can't stand touching that cheap material.

That is why I make sure the factory removes it and puts either leather, 'carbon skin' or CF and they are kind enough to do it -for a price lol. Their Ad Personam director is great!

I actually like alcantara, I don’t like suede and leather in sports cars.

What about steering wheels and dashes? Suede is kinda nice there, no? :icon_mrgreen:

They become grubby fairly quickly but other than that they are ok.

If I have to choose, I prefer suede to alcantara any time - at least it is natural not artificial. It is all subjective.

For steering wheels, I find the carbon steering wheel with perforated leather handles to be the best. It feels much better than alcantara.

A good place to supply it is Singapore's Robson design.

The whole idea behind alcantara was to create something that allowed race car drivers to be comfortable without slipping around while driving. It had to be fire retardant, and lighter than other materials. Leather was too slippery and heavy, suede had too much upkeep and didn't wear well. Those that have done hot laps in slippery seats know it's dangerous, 5 point harnesses notwithstanding.

Somehow, much like carbon fibre, it's become a fashion accessory. Originally though alcantara was purpose designed.

How do I know? Because my name is Allan Cantara.

I want to be ensconced in velvet always... what happened in my life that I have waited so long for a velvet car .. I mean of course there is the baby oil and the glitter of the girls that seem to always be in and on the car ... that could be problematic.. but screw it.. SOLD! I want the velvet ... I need the velvet. I WANT ME SOME VELVET!!! Can we go straight to end and deliver it with the wrap on and maybe 60k miles on it... so I don't have to break it in all over the world.

I hated the alcantara in my Performante. never ending battle keeping all the white specks from clinging to it... This video is a must see.

suede is just as bad, my C63 steering wheel is part suede and part leather after 40k km the suede parts look like they were coated with some sort of tar and the leather doesn't look that flash either.

Good informative video on alcantara!

They sell it to us for a premium when in fact it is much cheaper than leather: 10-15% the cost of leather, what a rip off!

I don't agree that it wears so fast. I have all my cars with alcatnara interiors and except for the 488's steering wheel all look great even after 4 years and 32000 kilometers (Aventador Roadster). Suede steering wheels suck though - they always go bad after a few months of use.

Interesting fact about it being 10x cheaper than leather....

the first 2 aventadors I had got noticible seat wear on the outer portion of the drivers seat (alligator belt makes a mark so does the "carry" ) the marks occur at 10-20k miles the seat on the 2nd aventador at 60k really showed wear. the 2 SV's I have have absolutely NO wear on the sides of the seat. they don't look as neat and clean as conditioned leather but after a wet rag whipe down they look new. I would always do perforated leather 2pm and 10 pm steering wheel grips. 100% ... alcantera all other places. The carbon skin roof and dash cluster on my SV coupe also wore very well. unless you guys are really putting miles on the cars ... 20k; 40k... 60k then ... well you never get to see that Leather looks great but the creases and cracks and "look" of the material will deterioriate after many miles ... and in different conditions. I hated alcantera forn the first 20k miles on my SV's after that ... I loved it and it still has no blemishes ... rips or problems.

I agree with dickus Alcantara lasts a lot longer than suede, on the interiors/seats etc. it will last years without showing any signs of significant wear on the steering wheel it will way outlive suede, suede turns bad in weeks.

Velvet is the answer LOL

let's get back to subject:

I hope the SVJ comes with CF doors. If they banned the proper 3k twill CF on doors, I hope they use CF skin or leather instead of alcantara.

Fortis and Teamsalamone can order Velvet from Ad personam lol

I’m curious, what cars have you guys experienced with suede in them?

Mostly on the steering wheels, 570 SL had a suede steering wheel, my current C63, I had it in my S4 Audi.
