Damn Fortis that's a vicious looking rock hit. I hope the protection held up and look forward to seeing some pictures after the wrap is removed.

That's the worse some of the finer sands grazed the film and burnt it. Looks terrible.

Yes satin Xpel, it's Undetectable if installed correctly. This is the biggest challenge with all film, its only as good as the installers. This is why for my "important" cars, I fly a guy

across the country because they are hands down the best

I've ever seen.

PM if you want their contact info.

Fortis hope it did its job!

You might have to fly them around the world :icon_mrgreen:

Actually I think the installer did a very good job he's done a lot of exotics, I flew him over after feedback I've received from other owners, yes some sections of the film could do with a slightly better placement but I think that's actually a product limitation.

And yes I agree in certain sections the film is pretty much undetectable but in certain areas the film itself has slight in imperfections in it and you can see there is something placed over the paint.

This is the first time I wrapped a car and I felt comfortable driving it without applying my general rules of engagement LOL I've owned exotics for almost 15 years now and this is the only car I got so much damage on and after spending so much money and waiting for the installers etc etc it's truly frustrating.

My biggest gripe is that prior me getting the wrap done I was searching for proper unbiased reviews which described the limitations of the product itself so I know what to expect but all you get is a bit of fluff from people whom I am sure got a break on their invoices :icon_mrgreen:

I actually wanted to write a review based on my experience so people like myself understand what the limitations of the product is and perhaps not expect miracles but I am extremely busy at the moment I might do it in the next few months.

In short, will I do it again, yes on difficult to match paint, next time I might get them to do two layers if that's possible, maybe not on basic paint, now I know how the film looks like and what to expect from it so I won't be as annoyed.

Xpel isn't any better, ask me how I know.

I don't know if you guys are doing this or not, but I specifically asked my installer to double the vulnerable panels such as the front bumper, front lower bumper, mirrors and the side rockers. For the satin panels to be double filmed, use the gloss film first and followup with the satin film. Why? The satin sticks better to the gloss film whereas satin to satin not so much. Btw, I used the Suntek film as they offer the most clarity of the film available. Also, Suntek just came out with a film with a coating on it already, so no need to ceramic coat the film after installed.

This is on my SV, my is installer is the best I've seen, you can't even tell there's film on paint even on the double layered panels. Sorry, can't post any pics, keep getting error messages.

SunTek seems the way to go from what I've heard from others as well and will probably use it on my next car.

That's a good idea, I didn't know it was possible, I will ask them to do so when they replace the film on my car.

I was told by my installer that if you put two layers of Xpel it might be difficult to remove because it would get too thick and difficult to heat and remove. Again, this was one installers opinion so maybe the best thing would be to e-mail Xpel and ask if it's ok to layer before proceeding.

Do they use heat to remove it ?

Heat gun to loosen the adhesive for removal.

I thought it just peels off, not sure how comfortable I feel with someone using heat gun near certain parts of this car.

Anyway we went way off topic maybe we should start a separate thread for this discussion.

You shouldn't be around for the install then because they use heat gun to negotiate corners and tight areas, it's a common practice. As far the two layers are concern, if you pull off single layer at a time with steam then there shouldn't any issues. And yes we did went off the thread topic.

I was watching some of the install the guys had precut panels for the entire car so not heat gun was used at least not while I was there

so for factory matte paint what is the conclusion here?

satin clear xpel? ceramic coating? or just pray nothing happens lolol

Don't go with the pray and hope nothing happens route. I can tell you from experience that the matte paint is delicate. I don't think it has the same flexion that the regular paint has. Have a new H in Grigio Titans and it was delivered with paint on the front bumper spider webbed. The paint itself had lost adhesion to the bumper panel. Had even started to flake off. It's the whole reason I haven't posted up any new car pics yet... as you can imagine it went back and it was a time consuming process to fix. Diminished the whole new car experience a bit. But dealer and Lamborghini took care of everything without any hassle, so no complaints there. Just has me paranoid about anything related to the paint. I'm sold on wrapping it, but still unsure how well removal process will go. I started a topic on LT about protection advice for matte paint.

Also just out of interest if you put matte clear wrap on gloss paint do you end up with exactly the same as matte paint?

I wouldn't double up the film. It's not optically clear and it doesn't look very good. The film is a sacrificial barrier. When it gets damaged, replace it. For matte film it is very important to edge wrap all panels. Do not let an installer use a kit.

LT is LamborghiniTalk

I have the same concern, but others who have done it are very satisfied with the outcome and posted up some pics. I think the results may depend on the color/car. For example when my car (not wrapped) was next to an Avio version with matte gray paint, the Avio paint appeared much flatter, matte, than the Grigio titans on mine. So if the two vehicles were wrapped with the same protective film, my guess is that the subtle differentiation in finish would be lost.

That's what makes re-painting or repairing matte paint so difficult. With normal gloss paint, to repair, only the color has to be matched and the clear coat is a non-issue. For matte, the difficulty is not only matching the color but also the level of matte/shine/texture of the original finish.

got it.. so I'm wondering if I can just wrap in satin with the race package just covering the risk areas or would I have to wrap the entire car?

I want to leave as much as the natural factory matte paint exposed as possible.

I guess I need to speak with the installer. this guy wrapped my entire CGT in satin and it came out great!

There is a slight color difference when you apply matte film on matte paint. It is much more noticable on gloss paint because the gloss adds a lot of depth and saturation which you lose when you take away the refectivity. I would do all of the matte paint in the same film.

so on a matte car I should wrap the whole car? (not just the race package)

I don't know what you are referring to as the race package. I did not notice anything called that when I configured my car. Perhaps it is the standard matte black finish if you don't choose the style package?

I have paint protection film installed on all my cars for most of the painted and cf panels if not the entire car. If you're going with a special paint like a matte, I would definitely have film installed on all of those panels and have the same film installed on the panels with the same color.

I'm going with an Ad Personam color with the style package so everything is getting film including the forged carbon bits.
