  1. Thanks for the feedback so far guys. To expand on this just for the sake of being thorough... If I could live without the 6MT, is the E Gear in the LP640 enough of an advancement over the Murcielago version that I should be considering it? I'm less concerned with driving dynamics and more interested in the potential major failures and frequency of clutch replacements (engine out). I seem to remember the LP E Gear being a noteworthy advancement over the previous system, but I don't recall specifics.
  2. Hello All, I've been lurking here for a little while and I'm finally ready to pull the trigger on my first Lambo. Unfortunately since I originally got into the brand the price of my favorite models (Diablo SE, SV, 6.0) has become attainable and subsequently unattainable again haha. Which leads me to the Murci. For the purposes of this discussion, let's just assume I am only interested in 12 cylinder cars as that's what I've always had my heart set on. I know the 10 cylinder models are probably better and certainly more usable in every way, but I like what I like. Long story short, it's got to be a 3 pedal car for me and the LP640's are obviously way too pricey given the rarity. My question is, should I just find a nice 02-03 or is it worth it to try and find a MT 05 for the brakes/options? I will be driving the car 500-1,000 miles/year, so enough that it could be argued that it matters, but maybe not. Realistically the most enjoyment will probably still come from looking at it. Thanks in advance for any opinions and feel free to throw in some buyer's advice from those experienced.
  3. I just bought a mattress from Gary based on the recommendations from this thread and older ones. He was a real pleasure to deal with, informative, knowledgeable and responsive, you can't ask for better. I would recommend him very highly for a smooth and painless transaction. Despite not knowing me he cut me a great deal just because I've been lurking here for a decade or so, very much appreciated and not expected. BTW, I also went with a Tempurpedic for those keeping track.
  4. I've never been a huge fan of Opus X's. I think they're great cigars, no complaints on that front, just not really worth the money or headache of finding them. That being said, I do feel like the entire Fuente line is under rated and for such a big (and old) company it's surprising they've been able to keep the quality up.
  5. The best source I've found for non-cubans is tampahumidor.com If you buy a decent amount it's worth it to pay $50/year to be a buyer's club member which gets you an additional 10% off every order. The other trick is to join their mailing list and wait for the good sales. They usually have a 10-15% off everything sale once every couple months. So in total you can typically pay 20-25% off their online prices if you are patient and have a humidor big enough to store in bulk. Also, their customer service has always been very good.
  6. The H. Upmann Magnum 46 is another highly rated Robusto that you could sub for the Partagas. However, a recent box I received was a let down so they also seem to have quality control problems. If you're a fan of Churchills, the Ramon Allones Gigantes is very highly rated and a better overall value than the Sir Winston (H. Upmann), Lusitania (Partagas), etc. Even though you were specifically asking about Cubans, my generic advice would be to sample anything from Padron's 1926 or 1964 line. They're not cheap but their quality is beyond that of any Cubans you can buy (save for the limited release Behike's etc.) If you're in the market for a really great cigar that's also a great value my go to has been the La Flor Dominicana Double Ligero. I've smoked about 20 boxes in the past 5 years and the quality has never faltered.
  7. The sound is somewhat of an acquired taste. But if you pick up one with a more aggressive cam (or even the stock cam through 1999) they can sound pretty good with exhaust mods. HP is cheap too with simple exhaust/air flow mods, nothing like a TTG but more than enough to have a lot of fun. Who cares if it's just a Dodge? The FGT is just a Ford but it's still rediculously good looking, a ton of fun, very reliable, and extremely collectible. The 2nd Gen. GTS is a very beautiful car and a great bargain all things considered. I expect they will start to appreciate from their current pricing within a few years.

    Valet tipping

I was a valet for a couple summers at a very exclusive country club in Chicago. Lambo's and Ferrari's were not unusual, Porsche's weren't even worth mentioning they were so common. Surprisingly most everybody was happy to let you drive their exotics, but you could always tell the real car guys just by the condition of the car, you knew there was no chance you'd be parking their car. In my experience it was generous if they gave $5-10 for you to NOT park their car while they leave it up front, of course, that was almost 10 years ago so I guess $10-20 would be an equivalent norm now.
  9. Peloton, I also appreciate the effort to provide accurate info. Over the years I have always been astounded by your personal archives detailing the history of each F1 chassis around the world. Thanks for sharing!
  10. Like most have said, CGT for resale assurance and SLR for ease to live with. The question is how much are you really going to drive it? Personally I think the CGT really has that wow factor you want in an exotic... and while the SLR is every bit as exotic, most people that aren't car fanatics don't notice it in the same way.
  11. Car looks incredible, can't wait for the video. Congrats on another masterpiece in the stable.
  12. He was incredibly talented and a lot of fun to watch, such a shame. With factory Honda support slated for next year I think he would have easily been in contention for the championship. All he needed to do was dial back his riding style just enough to avoid some of the crashes that cost him so many points this year. He and Rossi were great friends, I can't imagine what kind of toll this is going to take on Rossi knowing he was part of the accident. RIP
  13. Congrats on another awesome purchase! Your taste in cars and mods is fantastic. Your collection has gotten to the point where I'd give my left nut for some quality pictures of all the cars together. Just out of curiosity, have you ever considered opening up your garage to local car nuts like Ken Lingenfelter ("Sultan of Michigan")? If you were open to the idea it could be a really cool way to let others see all your cars while doing something really positive. I'm sure people would be happy to pay an admission fee that would be donated to a charity of your choice or something along those lines. Side bar... an update on the SC/TT FGT would be awesome when you have the time.
  14. Congrats on the new SV, it's gorgeous! I instantly recognized the car from pictures I had archived years and years ago, they were even titled Monterey #13. It's interesting, with ALL the cars you've cycled through that you're back with the SV. I hope you keep it for the long haul as mentioned. BTW, I agree with most, the wheels are perfect as is.
  15. I’m somewhat ashamed to admit it… but the 355 is one of my all-time favorite cars, even though I’m fully aware of its many problems. To hell with the questionable reliability/low performance numbers (vs. modern offerings)/high maintenance costs/Ferrari Fag labels/etc. I still think it’s one of the best looking cars I’ve ever seen and that alone is reason enough to own one at some point. However, in the context of this debate I have to vote in favor of the Esprit. When you commit to daily-driving a car you know you’re signing up for accelerated paint & leather damage and all-in-all the car will cease to be special to you pretty quickly. Right or wrong I’ve always put the 355 on a pedestal and for that reason I could never destroy one by driving it everyday. I really love the Esprit and I do think it’s a great (and highly underrated) car, just not quite as good as the 355. For that reason I’d pick the Esprit.
