aftermarket tweeters installation

Has anyone installed aftermarket tweeters in a different location than the stock ones that are behind the door handles? I've seen them installed in place of the defroster vents, which looks nice, but I'd rather not lose that functionality.

Why do you want to relocate them? Too large for stock location? Imaging?

 

A-pillars, dash or a custom mount on the door are your best options, each with their own pros/cons.

It seems a lot of door handles break when replacing tweeters. I have CF package, and don't want to risk it.

I have seen different pods added to the car for small speakers, most of them look TERRIBLE. I would stick with the OEM locations and make the best of it.

I'm sure a good shop can do a proper pod in fiberglass no problem that looks stock. No reason a Lambo is any different from another car.

 

And it's for a ~ 1" driver, so shouldn't be hard. Now a 4" midrange on the other hand.....

From an aesthetic stand point, anything is possible so long as one is wiling to pay for it. If you goal is to achieve better sound; however; I highly doubt that is possible. The physical interior of the Gallardo cabin has huge limitations to begin with. Add a roaring V10 behind you along with the usual ambient road noises and you get the idea. To have a pair of tweeters that sound correct and "good" in a G, you likely have to custom-make an enclosure that's integrated into the A-pillar (like those A-pillar mounted after-market gauges found on many ricers). Good quality tweeters have big magnets which mean they will be bigger and heavier than the OEM ones. To get the best out of them, you'll need crossovers and more amplifiers and that's more weight added along with additional wiring. And the sound will still not be balanced since the V10 alone will upset the mid-low frequencies. The high frequencies from the tweeters will either sound lacking or they will stick out and pierce your ears. I would leave the stereo alone and enjoy the V10 symphony behind you instead. If you really want to spend the $$ then invest it in a better air box and/or exhaust to up the car's performance. If it's the tunes you are after, either get a better home stereo or get a portable headphone amp plus a better pair of headphones/earbuds.

I'm leaning towards just staying as is. I am having a LOC exhaust with high flow cats installed soon.. The connecting wire to my main speakers came loose, so I'm only getting audio out of my tweeters right now.. I figured while they're already messing with the car, they can just install new speakers. The previous owner already had a new head unit installed. The tweeters being the PITA they are, and nothing that can really be done without modifications, I'll probably just leave it. Thanks all.

Wise move. Unless it's a previous custom job, reconnecting the wire to the main speaker is a lot easier than tempering with the tweeter. Remove the grill and then remove a few bolts to unlatch the speaker from the door cavity and that's it. No need to take apart the door handles like the tweeter.
