Ok, what's the best radar detector?

Windshield mounted?

On the highway, nothing beats the Valentine 1 for early warning - but, in town, its false alarms will drive you crazy.

Escort 360 Max is a great option, especially now that V1's patent has expired on the directional arrows, and Escort has them too - it is much better at eliminating in-town false alarms.

As I don't need in-town detection, I use a Valentine 1. It's saved my ass countless times.

all the above and/but most importantly use WAZE every time you drive, I forget also but it has helped me massively on my very long trips.

On road trips I use WAZE, radar detector and AL Priority jammers. I can't even remember the last time I got a ticket.

Escort 360 Max is being significantly reduced in size as we speak. Prototypes are in the works. Their Smartcord live works just like Waze.

I have a V1 as well and it works good. Only problem with all these detectors is obviously they simply tell you when you get hit with laser. At that point it could be too late.

Good to hear. I like everything about it except its size.

any other suggestions?

V1 says their new one does not have as many false alerts.

If you don't care about having the arrows to show where the threat is coming from the https://www.escortradar.com/ix/ is pretty decent as well.

You really can't go wrong with either the V1, the Max 360 or the IX. It just depends on your use case. The V1 doesn't contain a GPS and the display is all in red, it can be hard sometimes to quickly see if you are getting hit with K, Ka or X from the display. There are some companies where you can send it in and they will put colored LEDs on it instead.

The main advantage of the Escort radars is that they contain a GPS. So they can automatically memorize false alerts based on GPS location from routes you drive often. This greatly reduces false alerts.

Until the Max 360 came out I preferred the V1 for road trips and the IX for daily use. Then when Valentine's patent expired on the arrows and the Max 360 came out that became my goto for road trips. The only problem I have with it is that the unit itself is really massive, KMR mentioned they are working on a smaller version so I would wait for that if possible.

I haven't ran side by side comparison (and I've heard that won't give accurate results either due to each detector giving off noise and possibly interfering with the other one), but I've ran the V1, IX and Max 360 for a decent amount of miles (at least 10k each on the XI/MAX and probably 30-50k on the V1). They all seem to perform very similarly as far as range/detection is concerned.

The V1 would I would say gives more falses (and possibly just a slightly better range than the escorts), but you have to really learn how to read the radar and judge the threats it alerts to yourself (which band is it alerting on, how quickly is the signal ramping up, etc) if not you will constantly be slowing down for false alerts.

Hope this helps. You can't go wrong with any of the units so it just depends on your use case. I've also ran the first generation Escort Redline and was not happy with it, I got a ton of false alerts, not sure if my unit was faulty or not.

Another for V1. You guys know you can tune the V1 to not get all the false warnings right? That's all they are doing to the new ones. Let me know if you want the instructions. Makes a huge difference!

If you wouldn't mind sharing, it would be appreciated. Haven't used mine in over a year because of the false alarms.

I used the Escort IX for roughly 12,000 highway miles. It was more rural, had a few false alarms, but it did save me 2-3 times with a decent heads up. I was pleased with Escort overall.

V1 had a software update to detun false alarms. On their website, enter the number in bottom of Your detector

Max360 is good as a plug and play detector with arrows. Currently the blind spot filtering is less than average, but there's an update that's supposed to be coming (been delayed for months) that should improve it so it should be even better whenever that comes out.

The V1 is great too, but it requires a phone and some advanced configuration to do what the Max360 can do right out of the box. It's one of the most solid and reliable detectors out there.

My personal preference is the Uniden R3. It outperforms both the V1 and Max360 pretty significantly. It also has GPS built in like the Max360, can filter out stationary false alerts (the Max360 can recognize when you've seen the same false alert several times and filter them out for you while the Uniden requires you to manually teach it what's a false in the beginning), and it's undetectable by radar detector detectors which not everyone needs, but it's nice for areas where you do. :) The main thing is getting the much longer range which is really helpful at speed, especially when terrain like mountains, trees, curves, and hills can block the radar signal and your reduce detection range.

I'm personally not as big a fan of the current remote mounted detectors. I like that they keep your windshield free of a radar detector, but they all have some compromises that I find a bit annoying. I currently own the Stinger VIP, original STi-R, Radenso RC, and Net Radar.

For laser protection, the AntiLaser Priority is the most effective.
