IanMan Report post Posted May 10, 2017 I thought I'd pass this along. I've been lusting over 911 GT3RS lately and googled to see if anyone had converted one to a manual. Looks like someone is doing it currently. Enjoy! https://rennlist.com/forums/991-gt3-gt3rs-a...t-i-did-13.html
Assman Report post Posted May 11, 2017 Seems like a waste given the 997.2 gt3 has a manual option. Would be easier to convert that into an rs clone?
LuisGT3 Report post Posted May 11, 2017 Would be easier to convert that into an rs clone? No. He has a 7.2 as well.

I was thinking that at first but then I remembered looking at this for $34K. I'd say no factoring in body shop work and paint, but I think it'd be a cool project for the GT3RS to convert it to manual when these get into the $125K+ range. Considering the price of the new GT3, you could end up neck and neck with options if you were to convert a used GT3RS.
LamboNutter Report post Posted May 11, 2017 The new 991.2 GT3 is faster than the 991.1 RS. Lap-times. The new GT3 is available with the specially developed 6-speed gearbox out of the R, but again impRoved The new-ish 4.0 is also much better according to both highly respected journalists Chris Harris and Bovinngdon; it is essentially the race cars' engine! Why on earth would anyone want to convert a 991.1RS to manual is beyond me.

I'm normally all for manual transmission conversions (360 Challenge Stradale, Enzo come to mind), but if a very similar car exists then why bother? szabo_martin Report post Posted May 11, 2017 Yeah the new GT3 with the 4.0 makes it seems kind of a waste... but hey each to their own
Fortis Report post Posted May 11, 2017 Will they have a 991.2 GT3RS?

Fortis Report post Posted May 12, 2017 Yes, but no manual option. DCT is fine by me
Smash Boy Report post Posted May 12, 2017 DCT is fine by me After doing a recent track drive with a semi-auto trans, those transmissions confirmed my long time suspicions that they are perfectly fine on the track. RS being an almost race car and probably being used on the track a bunch, is ok to be PDK only. But the GT3 minimum needs it as an option. If left to the mere Carrera lineup for stickshifts, not good.

Fortis Report post Posted May 12, 2017 Assman likes it old school The GT4 manual box was fantastic on the track, it sucks on the street in traffic in particular so my conclusion is if DCT is best on the track it certainly is better on the street in traffic. Either way I don't mind either boxes, manual or auto, I just feel with manual you leave some performance on the table and because of that I wouldn't get it in a performance oriented car. VCR Report post Posted May 12, 2017 F1 racing had proven that paddle shift is superior than conventional manuals; cannot dispute that. But...the interaction and feel of moving a shifter is indeed very gratifying. Most petrol heads like to tweak so it stands the reason to be attached to manuals. In a twisted way, it's also an alpha thing: that one can control a high hp mechanical beast going at speed using all four limbs and manage the synchronization between shifter and clutch without stalling. That would feel far superior than just using one's right foot and a finger or two from each hand and can never stall.
