Dogs and sugarless gum....warnings

I felt compelled to share this with the group. The other night my youngest dog got into my daughters book bag and found a pack of sugarless gum(orbit). She proceeded to go to town on the pack....ingesting God knows how much gum. We found the rapers on the floor moments after she got to them. I remembered that I read somewhere that the sweetener in sugarless gum is very toxic to dogs. A quick Google search indicated for a dog on her size, as little as 2 pieces could kill them. I induced vomiting (2 tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide)....luckily, she had just ate and had a full stomach. I appeared she ate about 2 full pieces. We were able to stabilize her blood sugar.......she's going to be fine. Dogs can go downhill very quickly....hypoglycemic shock, liver failure if left untreated. Please keep this stuff out our best friends reach......we could have easily lost the baby of our family.....

So glad what I expected to read, I didn't. Very lucky you caught it right away and knew to do the Hydrogen Peroxide. I have never heard of that before or the artificial sweetener.

Glad you caught her in time.. scary stuff. Very cute pup!

It's amazing how so many things can affect our pets health that we can easily overlook. Thanks for the warning.
