May 2017 Speedo Repair

So, the LCD display on the speedo had been disappearing when the car warmed up.

After a little searching, this turns out to be a common VDO fault with this style of gauge.

Its all to do with a ribbon connector inside the unit.

The hard bit is opening up the speedo - basically you have to ease off the edge of the bezel and bend it back when you put it on.

May 17 Door Sills replaced

The metal door sills that came fitted on the car were semi-gloss black.

Due to a kind donation from a friend, I replaced with some carbon ones.

June 2017 Carbon Dashboard version 2 (full carbon)

After my first attempt at covering aluminium in carbon didn't have the finish I wanted, I decided to try and make it in full carbon instead.

It took a few attempts, and here's the parts before fitment..

And as the cigarette ash tray was badly scratched, and I don't smoke, I took the liberty of making a tray to replace it on my 3D printer..

This redesign goes back to the single DIN design of the original setup, and I have purchased a flip up Pioneer navigation/AV system to replace the double DIN Parrot Asteroid Smart I'd previously fitted.

Those look great! How did you figure out and glue(?) the mounting/support brackets on the back?

I had the original metal one to measure/copy, so made the supporting brackets in ABS using a 3D printer.

The bracket probably should be made denser (I used something like 30% infill), so the cigarette ash tray one broke, but as I didn't really need it, I've just left it off.

I used UHU general purpose glue to stick the ABS to carbon, as I was more worried about melting the ABS, but a better glue may be available.
