BRIGHT

I know a lot of you have Netflix. This was one particular movie that I was really excited in seeing. The concept seemed really interesting to me and it seemed like one of the first Netflix Original Movies that really appealed to me, not to mention that it didn't suck ass like Sandy Wexler. Bright takes place in a modern day Los Angeles in a post orc/humans & elves battle era. A lot of people I've seen complained about the movie saying things like it didn't give enough introduction into the world you're shown. I completely disagree. Bright combines the movie End of Watch with Lord of The Rings. Bright, although taking place in LA, is a world where Orcs and Elves and Fairies and Humans all coexist in a modern day environment but as if battles of Lord of The Rings took place 2 thousand years ago. Although the movie never directly acknowledges LOTR, it's not hard to see that it's a given precursor. The movie follows Will Smith, (Ward) and Joel Edgerton (Jakoby) as two cops patrolling the streets. Orcs are treated like the outcasts of society and many people do not like them. Ward and Jakoby

Some things to point out:

Classic Will Smith is back.

People actually reload their weapons in the movie and don't fire 86 rounds from one pistol magazine. (I know, crazy concept, right?)

The movie gives what I believe is a reasonable visual of what the world would actually be like after Lord of The Rings crusades had they taken place on earth.

Elves rule Beverly Hills, lol.

It's the first Netflix movie I've seen that didn't completely suck ass and make me turn it off.

The movie has its faults, that's for sure, but I really enjoyed it. It was easy to follow, fun to watch, but definitely had some moments and experiences that could have been better scripted.

You get some laughs. You get some classic Will, and you get a good story that makes you root for the good guys.

All in all, I think this movie could have been better, but I was happy to watch it and it was a cheap thrill. It was really enjoyable, which is what matters most to me. At times it felt like there were 2 people directing it which takes away from things if you overanalyze it. I give it a 7.5 out of 10. I hope Netflix follows this trend and makes more movies that are entertaining like this. I think they're on the right path.

Liked it a lot, it was enjoyable and a fun blend of 2 genres. They could have given this a theater release and done pretty well but the fact it's on Netflix is a bit of a game shifter I feel.

Elftown is the tits and is definitely where I would live.

Agreed! I think this would have been ten times better in theatres. I believe it definitely takes away from the experience when you see things at home. Netflix should seriously look at releasing movies like this to theatres.

I sat and watched it with my buddy that was on the crew of the film. It was not as bad as critics made it to be, but it was not good. The dialogue was clunky, the lighting inconsistent, and the orc did not set up classic Will Smith one-liners. It was a little Hancock, and a little Alien Nation. I saw it, but only to fill the evening of drinking and loneliness.

Agreed. Okay to watch nothing to write home about.

So when are we going to hit a bar or restaurant for shenanigans then? :icon_mrgreen:
