Lamborghini Murcielago Fatal Accident

Recommended Posts

Unfortunately a 46 year old man died this Sunday morning at around 8am just 5 miles outside from where I live in Germany on an unrestricted Autobahn. Going likely more than 180mph he lost control overtaking and steering into the left guardrail and then bumping into the right one. The car immediately caught fire and burned out completely. Appearently the car was so deformed from the impact so that the driver couldnt escape and leave the car.

I have been down that stretch of the autobahn a million times at 150mph+ in my mercedes and on a sunday morning there is nobody else on the road. So it could have been a tire failure, wind etc. it is unknown at this point.

My goal and wish is still is to own a Lamborghini soon and drive down that stretch of 3 lane Autobahn at 200mph. But that event really made me reconsider my driving behavior. I enjoy driving super fast, but at some sustained high speeds material failures increase exponentially.

Please everyone who owns a fast car...always think about what could go wrong. Check everything on a regular basis and never push your luck on the streets for an adrenaline rush.

RIP

Driving at those speeds especially at great lengths of time increases your chances of a blow out substantially. RIP Sad to see.

This kind of accident was very similiar to the one filmed in Romania in that green huracan that crashed in the exact same way at 200mph steering into the guardrails and burning out. Took a miracle for the two who were in that car to survive such a high speed accident. This driver was not as lucky sadly. It only takes a slight bump in a corner to upset the car and thats it...

Continuative top speed on a motorway with a supercar, is something that would be safer to avoid, as supercars were not built (unlike a Mercedes S series) to do that. But maybe it was just a failure of an old tire, who knows: top speed means top stress on the tires, and if they are old, you are in danger. This said, what a tragedy: Requiescat in Pacem.

Like you said, at those speeds everything can go wrong.

From losing tire pressure making you lose control, a little bump on the road making you completely lose control if you overcorrect it, strong winds making you lose control, too much steering, not enough steering, loss of grip, tire puncture which will kill you, brake failure, brakes being too cold when you try to stop the car because of all the wind.

Those are just some things on top of my mind, not to mention that the drivers around you can also play a part.

Drive safe, take care of yourself, race and go in high-speeds at your local track.

May he rest in piece

Definitely something to think about.... these cars run 200mph new with new tires etc.. we drive them a bit, park them, few years later who knows a bolt could be loose a tire could be aged etc.. so vital to go through these cars regularly if your going to push them. Check wheel lugs, tire pressures and conditions...etc.

rip. that sucks. even sustained speeds of 130mph can have dramatic effects from bumps, tires, etc.. 180 is very scary. These cars don't have roll cages and fire supression systems. I've done 165 a couple times and every time I know I am pushing a limit that may declare a weak point in the car.

If you ever or regularly drive fast then be smart enough to know that tires age from the inside out.. so they might look brand new but every 5 yrs just buy new tires.
