We could be totally energy independent of them if we chose to stop sucking at their tit.

That's not happening...former Exxon CEO running the State Dept at least thru December. Think about it, an Exxon lifer that has had to swallow more shit sandwiches than a Thai hooker has had it....

BTW last time Nuclear weapons we're used it saved millions of more lives from death in war and instantly ended the greatest war the world has ever seen.

90% True

Japanese were on their last legs...that was a message for the Soviet Union.

The other 10%

Yes, the US wanted to send a message to Russia, but the majority reason why we went the Nuke route was to demoralize Japan and get them to surrender as quickly as possible. My old friend, before he passed away back in 2009, used to be a fighter and bomber pilot for the US Air Force. I remember discussing some of his stories about his time in WWII and he was happy the nukes worked. If they hadn't the next mission was for the US to take every plane they had and carpet bomb the entire nation...total scorched earth policy. My friend was glad it didn't come to that, otherwise he would have had to kill a lot of people that didn't need to be killed. With Pearl Harbor and the sentiment of the war, the US was ready to wipe Japan off the map at the time.

We only get 2% of our oil from the Middle East. The Saudi situation is jumbled it's hard to say if that rubik's cube will ever be solved...They are the good guys but also villains as well as a strategic player that also has a$$ loads of cash... That whole situation is probably all back-channel dealings. I agree, the Saudi's have done a lot of dirty business and have seemed to gotten away with it for many years. Hard to say what will change that.

Agreed, my point is that NK is a paper tiger with a Chinese overdrawn credit card. Chinese won't let them do it.

Unfortunately, they are not a paper tiger. They have the ability to wipe one of the worlds most economically important cities, off the map. And because of that they have been allowed to grow militarily without fear. Soon they will have the ability to wipe ANY city on earth off the map. And then what?

So. War game it. They launch multiple missiles towards Guam where we have squadrons of US air power and their airmen based. We do what? Hope they miss? And then what? Allow an overt act of war to go unanswered? Or. Do we fire back at Pyongyang? And then what?

I'm you're crazy neighbor. We don't like each other. And worse. I'm married to your sister. I'm always threatening to kill her if you piss me off. So. One day I send you a letter. And say "next time I see you- I'm shooting you. And if you try to stop me I'll kill your sister" And then you see me and I pull a gun.

What's your response?

You're not going to let me shoot you. And you're not going to punch me in the nose. Because then I'm going to kill your sister. You're going to kill me. Before I can follow through with my crazy threats.

I wouldn't trust any public statement by that penguin at this point. He is clearly capable of acting irrational at any given moment.

On news now: NK bought Ukrainian made rocket engines from black market.

But they also postpone missile tests for now and are open for discussion.

He is clearly an idiot but I don't think he's suicidal, I don't think many in the world enjoy the lifestyle this prick does, I bet that's hard to give up.

The other thing I am almost convinced of, political pressure, sanctions and negotiations will not convince him to give up his nuclear assets or further development.

God if it were only that easy... Its not a case of kill a dude and all is well... My estimate is, you'd have to kill about 500-1000 people. All at once. Many of whom are high ranking members of the military and are spread out all over the country and beyond. And... I may have underestimated that number by a multiplier of 1000.

This family of moonbeams doesnt gain and retain power with no challenge for 70 years, without a large group of loyal supporters around them, all of whom know that the fall of the regime, likely results in them personally facing trial and summary execution.

This is a mafia style regime... To get the good food and the big hat and the puffy pantaloons, you have to get your hands dirty on the way up... And only those who have proven their loyalty AND have enough blood on their hands to insure it, stay out of the camps.

This is way beyond an assassination.

But the problem is America only knows regime change.

Second World War it worked, but success rates since range from limited to appalling and none of those were with someone with (actual) access to weapons of mass destruction. Each regime change America has been involved with has created power vacuums, mass instability and complicated pockets of problems. Just exchanging missiles is not the answer yet there are too many right wing users on this site that think that is the way forward.

There needs to be another way, a way that makes China take action.

Think how much it costs to keep US fleets of armed forces in that part of that part of the world?

North Korea sounding off against Australia.

Good work chubster, the place is already hot as fcuk and littered with highly posionous animals, what exactly will a nuclear warhead do exactly?

Also what state of mind do you think the locals are already at? I bet they bloody they love the idea of a nuclear winter simply because it has the word winter in it.
