I like most of us here like good things in life, not 2nd best for the most part. Or the best we can do. I dont cut corners, live life to its fullest.

So after I been looking around for a while and bought a couple different $250-$500 buds-different brands, then about a year ago just when I got a new pair another brand hit the market with a really good set or pair what ever its called.

I decided to wait a while and see more reviews and wait for mine to wear out,

They did a couple weeks ago, so after thinking about it for a while I decided to make the move and spend $1000 on a set/pair to replace the ones i used this past year.

They came yesterday, WOW, is all I can say.

Shure SE846 are my new ones, they are amazing, i wouldnt want them in the gym-i dont like buds in the gym anyways, but at home on a flight these ear buds are beyond amazing.

there are a couple video's about them on YouTube and reviews on Amazon, they are accurate. I have never heard ear buds like this ever. They are worth $1000 all day long and then some.

look them up, and see, they fit in your ear like a hearing aid and are comfortable in bed, moving around etc.

best

Shure makes some good in-ear-monitors, for sure.

What is probably most surprising is how much bass you can get out of those things.

Might have to go back to CES to test them as they had all of them available along with fresh ear buds for each listener.

Seems like they do get great reviews though, with that being said for $1k they better make unicorns sing a great song.

The 846 are good. That being said, the 535 LTD is 85% of the 846 performance at half the price. Ok, you want nothing but the best, swap out the 535 OEM cables with Cardas (about $200) and the overall sound will top the 846.

And, of course, you can do 2 things to the 846 to make it better still: 1) Swap out the OEM cables with Cardas and everything will sound better still. 2) At this price point, I would suggest you go to an audiologist and have your ears molded (about $120) so they can replace the soft rubber plugs with a pair of custom-made plugs specifically tailored to your own ears. This would provide a custom/tailor fit of the earbuds to your ears only. You can then play with the customizable frequency responses according to the now perfect-fit plugs and take the sound to the next level.

It's a completely different animal and the sound is very different from the Shure's (it boils down to personal preferences) but the Grado GR10e is also a top-sounding pair of earbuds.

yes, VERY good, they happen to fit me perfect, i had ear plugs for shooting custom made years ago where they took a molding of my ear, like they do for hearing aides. The 846 fit as good, that was just lucky for me. I cant hear much of anything with them on. When I fly I put noise cancelling head phones on over ear buds, which works great. Will be interesting how that woks with these.

I lost a $400 ear buds once, lose them once and i promise you it wont happen twice-OUCH!!!

I dont normally post things like this thread, but man I had to share this. They are amazing. The bass is better than any other buds I've tried/owned. It's not too much ether. Its not like a row of 18" speakers in the back of a truck. It's kinda weird hearing bass and not feeling it.

If you do the math the $1000 aint much dived by the hours of use they provide.

Another thing i noticed that no other ear buds picked up is on my iPad when I slide up the thing to adjust the brightness-all these noises come thru the Shure ear buds where on the other ones its not there. I'm not a audiophile or have the correct vocabulary to describe what that is, but its interesting.

they come with a inline volume adjuster if you want that convenience, I tried it and the signal was not near as good and lots of sound degradation. Ok maybe I sound a geek a little bit. lol

this guy is a geek, however his assessment in the link below is spot on.

If any of you are looking for higher end headphones or ear buds I work with the following companies daily:

Klipsch (X11i is my everyday ear bud. They have a very high end ear bud coming out that I demoed last week that blew me away)
B&O (Their new H8 is killer)
Sennheiser (I love my IE800, but are very expensive)

If anyone is looking for a pair let me know

I was stuck between the Sennheiser IE800's and the Shure846, i might buy the Sennheiser 800's still,

I have been using Sennheiser ie80's for the past couple years, which are great. they were $400 and change a couple years ago-now they are $257 on Amazon. Which is stealing IMO, the Shure's are 4X more $$$ and maybe 4X better, i'm not sure-lol , So if you dont want to blow a dime $1000 the 250$ are 10000000X better than the shit Apple ships.

another thing worth noting, the Sennheiser people are GREAT, I had a pair that had a problem, no questions asked they shipped me a new one instantly. thats pretty big, and why I recommend them as well, i havent stepped up the big ones yet, but for $250 they are the best bargain around

they are a pain in the ass to find on Amazon so here is a link to the next to the top Sennheisers:

http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-IE80-Head...KYBDF9NSS421440

no matter what buds you buy when you step up to IE80's that used to be $400 & change or the big $$ ones, you'll be glad you did. no i'm not getting paid or selling anything, just sharing a cool thing i discovered.

LV Eric, I took your advice last nite and ordered a pair of the Sennheiser IE 80's. Thanks for the recommendations.

If anyone is looking for a higher end pair of earbuds to avoid, stay clear of the Bang-Olufsen 3i earphones. I have probably owned a half dozen pairs of the Bang-Olufsen 3i earphones and they have all managed to die within 8-12 months. This seems to be a very consistent complaint with these headphones. The electrical wires used in the headphones are of substandard material and they would consistently short out. B&O used to have decent customer service and replace them when they died but they no longer will exchange them at their retail stores when they go bad and they do not reply to emails/phone calls when problems arise.

cool, let me know how they work out. smile.gif

Sadly mine are wore out-after a lot of use. I'm most likely going to buy a pair again now that they are cheap(well less than before-still expensive). they are a steal for $250.

enjoy them, i had no clue until 3 1/2 years ago that the right bud's are the plan. I think what woke me up on this is the Apple buds never fit comfortably- they feel like rocks in my ears, then when they launched their revised buds(I was already owned IE 80's) I tried them and just laughed.

There is a huge difference between the 80's and the Shure 864, having both is the plan. The main reason is when you put the 846's on your deaf they seal so well and they are a little tricky to just pop them out and back in, so in a spot where you need some hearing or have to pop them in and out the 846 is a bad plan. If your not going to be disturbed and just want to lock in to listening or a movie then the 864's are the plan.

i been watching a old TV show on my iPad for a hour everynight before i go to ZZZ the 846's are fine, but because the audio is not so good its a 45-50 year old show, the IE 80's are all that's needed, they are much more comfortable than the Apple buds. both 846 and 80's are cool in bed.

i'm looking forward to flying somewhere with the 846's, that will be sooner than later. i'll report that experience when it happens.

I've used the 80's for 10-12 round trips from LA to Europe and Asia and more flights in america than i can count, they are great for flying.

I'm glad you said there is another level after $200 stuff. I bought Senheisers for around $200 6 years ago and couldnt believe I spent that much on headphones. They sound amazing I still use them to this day, that bass that is felt by the eardrum yet it doesnt pound is a magic feeling smile.gif One thing is i had to get careful about going out w them, I think i wore them to the gym a handful of times but otherwise I always had a few cheap spares to bring..smart too since I lost a few. Is there anywhere to try these shures, top end senhs, etc, at retail location?

Oh man, I hoped that someone might sense the sarcasm in my post lol.gif

I'm not a big fan of Beats....but they do look sick!

I love music, love audio. Maybe not to the level of VCR, but was really heavy into it. Never had the $ for nicer things. Well, once I got the $, I never wanted to lose it.

So, I never got into amps or anything like that, but I've tried just about everything out there with a basic set up (normal use, probably most of us here).

Everyone has a different ear, and Klipsch just works for me.

I use the Klipsch image 1's in the gym with bluetooh, and after breaking them in, love them. Their reference series also never disappoints.

This is all dependent on what you like, what type of music you listen too, etc. Some like bass, more highs, etc.

I'm also partial to headphones, I only use earbuds for their convenience, but every Klipsch pair of earbuds I've bough have rocked.

Sennheiser, Shure, just don't sound right to my ear.

One brand I haven't tried, but I will once my Klipsch die out (they are very durable), is Grado. Always hear rave reviews about them...gonna get me some Grado's soon!

I have never tried them because I have used Pioneer dj-phones for at least 10 years but for what I have read and what the 14$ production cost indicates they cant be really any good. Oh and so I read your comment was a joke smile.gif
