  1. Traumatic Bonding with a car is a weird condition, but I know what the guy in the video means. You start out liking the car enough to buy. Then you like it enough to fix it, never expecting what it is going to take. After years and piles of money later, you find yourself bonded to the thing. There is a satisfaction to experiencing a car you have restored that is hard to describe. It becomes a part of you and a representation of your effort.
  2. oops, that was another car I was looking at. Try this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lamborghini-Other-...=US_Cars_Trucks
  3. Seen this Kerplop? A white Jalpa with red interior on eBay with the bidding at $66,350 in 2 days. It will be interesting to see how it shakes out. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Maserati-Coupe-GT-...=US_Cars_Trucks Maybe we are not so crazy after all.....
  4. You should hook him up with Raymond's site http://www.jalpa.ch/index.html If he registers as an owner, he can get access to a registry. Lots of info held there and he should send any info he has to keep things current.
  5. I used leatherique on my car. I was told at the time it was the best product. I get a lot of complements on how nice the leather is now. The leather was pretty stiff before the treatment and now the whole interior is nice and soft.
  6. Here are the RM auction results from Monterey earlier this month: '71 Miura SV = $2,090,000 '69 Miura 400S = $1,265,000
  7. Wow.... "Good Buy". It was not all that long ago those were going for 40K to 45K.
  8. This recent tear in collector car prices is just screaming bubble to me. Is anyone on this site buying these cars? Seems like "investors" rather than enthusiasts. Enthusiasts are scratching heads wondering WTF is going on.
  9. By the way, the inside of that engine looks fantastic! I think you got a very good engine there.
  10. Not normal. I took the bolts off, and with a little tug, it came right off. If you are right about the glue and sealer, I would do what you are doing and try to loosen that stuff up. My pump pretty much just lifted strait off. Be very careful. One of the alternator brackets was broken off of mine and in a rough reassembly, the housing was cracked. That thing is not very tough.
  11. Those internals do look great. Not what they found in mine. I think you got a car with a good heart. Just not a looker.
  12. Everyone loves the Bravo wheels. I believe remakes are available from Euro spares. BTW I hope to come out to Bend this summer for the festival of cars. I would love to see your project and you are more than welcome to look at my Jalpa for reference.
  13. I am excited to see it when it comes out. Please post lots of pics. I love these projects. This project brings back memories of mine.
  14. I am not looking at the car, but is it not just the three bolts at the top of the strut towers holding the suspension to the rest of the car? Regardless, it should be easier than what you describe with the CV joints.
  15. I thought that was the way it was usually done. Suspension and all. Several pictures of it coming out that way on the Jalpa home page. I don't think it matters one way or the other, but I don't think you have to take those CV joints apart if you want the engine out sooner than later. If you look at the "engine mount fix" thread on the Jalpa site, you can see they did a lot of work to the engine and never bothered to remove the suspension at all. Jalpa Home Page
  16. Why not drop it out now? I guess I do not understand why you are taking the CV joints apart first. Your post makes it sound like that has to be done before the engine can come out...
  17. How are you taking the engine out? Are you taking it out the top? The engine can drop out the bottom still on the sub-frame as a complete unit with no need to undo the CV joints until after removal.
  18. Here is what Jalpa-Mike had to say about him. "Rezdoc is Louie McAlpine. He has been around for awhile. I've bought stuff from him in the past. Louie told me years ago that he worked at Lamborghini back in the day." I think it was rezdoc who sold me parts in the past. We chatted via email. He told me he built the Jalpa at the Lamborghini factory and left when Chrysler took over. I call rezdoc an expert if the info is true. I guess you could send your paperwork and a job application to the Lamborghini factory but they don't make the Jalpa anymore To be honest, I would call you an expert as well Paul.
  19. The stuff is on ebay. Just do a a search for Jalpa parts or plug in the seller's ID "rezdoc". I think this is the car that was offered for sale out of New Orleans, Louisiana. A car that had been wrecked and was combined with another damaged car. It was off and on eBay for about a year being sold without an engine. I met the seller in Monterey last summer and he was hoping to find someone interested in a big project. He had tried to find an engine for it, but was not able to find a good one or at least one at a price he liked. This is what I know about the car. I think the previous owner who had it before the damage is on another board. A few of us had talked to the previous seller. Jalpa Mike said the current seller is a Jalpa expert. That is what I know about the car being parted. Most of the info is second hand. What I know for sure, is that some rare used parts are available.
  20. By all accounts that car was a mess. I even talked with the seller in Monterey during car week and he did not have a lot of good things to say about it. It was a big project or a part car. Sadly no one wanted to take on the big project, but I am happy that parts are coming available. I would wager a guess the new owner bought it with the intention of parting it. He knows his Jalpas.
  21. Wanted to give the Old school Lamborghini folks the heads up that a Jalpa seems to be in the process of being parted out on eBay.
  22. Pure fantasy = 350GTV and Bravo A little more realistic = Countach 5000s and Diablo SE (I was sad to See the Red Diablo SE Roy had leave the US. Was hoping it would be there when I was ready....)
  23. Any luck on finding some carbs? There are a couple auctions for 42 DCNFs on eBay currently. A set of 2 and a set of 3. I had a thought on the damage. People here will have to tell me if this is feasible. If someone basted them in carb cleaner and let the cleaner sit for long enough, would it eat away metal? For example, if you filled the bowls with carb cleaner and left it there for long enough, would it cause the damage you foundl? I have a lawn mower that stopped working because it sat for years and the gas evaporated. I spent an hour dousing the carb with cleaner. It did not get it going, so I put it back in the shed in disgust. Wondering if I should go look at my mower again.....
  24. I was just teasing you.... I was keeping a look out and poking around ebay for a couple weeks thinking you might be hunting. The 42 DCNFs seem to come up on ebay from time to time and I have seen some good deals come and go. There are 4 up there right now. Looks like the bases may be different, but if you keep an eye out, you will probably fine a good set. http://www.ebay.com/itm/4-Sequential-Weber...f6a&vxp=mtr Reading from the old Lamborghini books, the switch from 40s to 42s was to get added power, but also to compensate for going from a 3 liter engine to a 3.5 liter. I would worry a little about getting enough mixture in there. I am NO expert by any stretch of the imagination, but that would be the concern I would look into. Knowing about ignition systems, you probably have a better idea than I do, but I think it is the engine capacity increase that called for bigger carbs.
  25. I hate to do this to you.... but did you ever read post 160?
