  1. Sorry to bring back such an old thread but if anyone has a source for a vintage Alpine (7136 or something from the early 80s era) I am interested!! Thanks, Vivek
  2. Anyone know of a white 6 speed Spyder? I'm in the market as well. Thanks, Vivek
  3. First off, I would like to thank you all for your replies. I spoke with my mechanic. He states after charging the car, he started with 14.2v at the battery. He then turned on the lights, stereo, and AC and after about 15 minutes he was down to 11.8v and the car was slightly missing. This should be an alternator correct?
  4. I'm pretty sure I need an alternator for the Murci. I changed the battery out a week ago and the car is dead again. I got quoted $800. Is that reasonable? Where's the best place to pick up an alternator? Thanks in advance, Vivek
  5. 95% of my experiences with others have been positive. I've heard "beautiful car, you must really enjoy driving it", etc. I do get a lot of "what do you do for a living" and "how much does that cost" and "how fast does that go" but as mentioned earlier, I don't think these people are hating, they are just getting the whole story to go home and tell their friends. I think a lot of people view it as a once in a lifetime sighting so they want to ask all of the questions they can!
  6. Well the light is now off. From what I've been told, removing the air bag assembly, cleaning the contacts and then clearing the codes usually prevents the light from coming back on. So far, so good. Cost if you can't do it yourself: ~$400 (no parts involved). My source is the service manger at Motor Cars International who did the work.
  7. Update: SP Engineering could not guarantee the test pipes they were sending would fit yet they said all sales would be final so I obviously chose to not go w/ them either (last thing I want is a $900 pair of hollow tubes that I have no use for). I ended up having the factory cats rebuilt using a free flowing ceramic material--so far so good, car supposedly runs cool and is more responsive. I'll let you know after I put some heavy miles on it. It cost me $1000 for the whole job--not too bad in my opinion. No issues with check engine lights...btw here is one of the few sources for 02 simulators if anyone is still trying to find them: http://www.o2simulator.com/index.php?main_...19637afab7b74bf These are becoming increasingly hard to find over the past year as regulations have cracked down big time on their sales.
  8. The bypass pipes are too large in circumference and the angle/bend is off...
  9. The bypass pipes for the pre-cats do not fit....they are close and you can tell they are designed to bypass the pre-cats (clearly not for the rear cats if you look at them) but the diameter is just a little off so there's is no way to make them fit--I'll post a picture later today to better illustrate! They are currently on their way back to Evans for a refund--for the record Evans and Quiksilver can not offer any other options--they simply state that they don't know why they don't fit and they were obviously willing to take them back. Has anyone installed Quiksilver bypass pipes that actually fit?
  10. Well I ordered the bypass pipes from Evans (Quiksilver) and it turns out they don't fit?! No reasonable explanation from Evans or Quiksilver--simply they don't fit. So I'm now trying to get a hold of the SP pipes...I'll keep you guys posted.
  11. We're using something called 02 sensor "tube extenders"...not quite sure how they work---but I'll let you know if they do!
  12. No, still working on that part. The sensors are obviously not expensive, just hard to find. I've received some potential ideas on how to make the system work as it is--if I don't throw a check engine light this week, I'll let you know what we did (still kind of up in the air).
  13. $980 for the bypass pipes
  14. I ordered the QS pipes today--they should be here tomorrow and hopefully installed by the middle of next week. I'm still looking for the 02 simulators....Summit Racing says they no longer carry them--I'm hearing the same story from others as well. Apparently nobody carries them after 8/06 after the government supposedly cracked down on the sales?! I have a 'guy' that says he can get around them anyway....any other ideas? I'll post my pre and post impressions next week!
  15. I'm having trouble locating a set of test pipes to bypass the front catalytic converters on my '98 SV. Does anyone know where I can get a pair? SP Engineering doesn't have any and apparently Tubi doesn't manufacture any as well. I also need 02 simulators--harder to find than you think! Thanks, Vivek
