  1. 1995 993 with 30k miles. Original everything except 18” wheels (Porsche and period correct). A friend had a neighbor who wanted to downsize. I first saw the car last Tues and it was in our garage by Monday afternoon. Had an extensive PPI Monday morning which revealed an all original car (except wheels). Service records under the former owner to 1996. He was the third owner. The first two had it for 8000 miles combined and a very short time. It was sold 3 times by the same dealer (who I use for service) and they knew the entire history of the car. As they say, you buy the car and the seller who is mid-70’s and according to my friend, the type of guy who would always properly warm up the engine before going into upper revs which probably were not explored very much. He religiously changed oil annually, and brake fluid every other year, and whatever the car needed. And he was nice and very reasonable. I got a very fair deal. We have some expensive repair items ahead, but that was factored into the agreed upon price and I couldn’t be happier! Polar Silver over Chestnut. It has a rare option: rear seat delete with storage (which I love). Came with all keys, books, manual, sales brochure booklet, wheel lock, complete tool kit, jack, compressor, spare tire (never used), and even the plastic disposable gloves that comes with the spare. The outer bag is very yellow but everything is intact. Hubby was not into air cooled at all, but after one ride home from the deal, he changed his mind. It’s comfortable, beautiful (to us) and has a “cool” factor that I love. It needs new tires, it got a new battery, and needs the 30k service. The timing chain housing cover has a tiny leak - not enough to pool on the shroud beneath the engine, but enough that it was moist to the touch. And the upper cam cover housing has a haze of oil that indicates it will probably start leaking. Both of those gaskets will be replaced at the 30k service, along with all new rubber hose brake lines at all four corners. The steel lines are in excellent condition. I still can’t believe it is in our garage, and that hubby very quickly from zero interest to saying “it’s a keeper”. Obviously I bought it for me (because he wasn’t enthusiastic) but it’s so much better that he will enjoy it too! The only other car I bought, that he didn’t see until the deal was completed, was the Lambo. I’m excited to have a completely different driving experience and ownership experience. It’s rock solid at highway speeds and has a very comfortable ride. The seats are great. It’s easy to get in/out of. Hubby washed it Monday night and said it was a breeze to wash compared to the GT4. (He loves washing cars so I indulge him as much as possible It’s weird looking out the very vertical, very large windshield. So different from modern cars, and also timeless. Not the best pics but you get the idea...

Yes - VERY quiet around here...
  3. Thanks for posting. He definitely has excellent taste in cars! Lucky he didn’t hurt himself or anyone else.
  4. Congrats Placid - tell us more. Impressions? Enjoy in the best of health!
  5. I think “normal” will look different after we emerge. Hoping everyone stays healthy and safe!
  6. I usually vote for keeping a classic car original but it looks so sleek without the wing. That wingless profile is gorgeous.
  7. Gorgeous! Enjoy in the best of health!!!
  8. Sweet!! Enjoy in good health!
  9. Congrats on the Pantera. I have always liked them. Don’t see them very often. How bout a couple pics of your latest American muscle? Color? How do you like it so far?
  10. The track precision app was a joke. Poorly executed and very complex once you figured it out. Not nearly as user friendly as it should be for the price tag. I skipped it on the GT4 but hubby ordered it on the RS. He figured it out and helped a friend get his running but it took WAY too much time. No HID? My C6 Z06 had it. My BMW wagon has it. I imagine you find it on far less expensive cars than Porsche’s. Maybe the Taycan has it (I haven’t paid close attn cause I don’t care). But Porsche is late to market with tech and doesn’t do it nearly as well as others. The electronics on the Panameras are cumbersome at best. Basic finctions buried deep in menus. Not intuitive. The Taycan may be a great vehicle but there’s no way I’d be first in line for a first gen new platform Porsche. I’d wait and see how it develops. I hope it’s a success because I’d like them to succeed - just like I want Lambo to succeed. I am excited to drive it and will share impressions.
  11. A close friend ordered the Taycan 4. I haven’t seen one yet in person. The dealer has a couple (already sold a turbo S demo car). But we are away and haven’t bothered to see if there is one locally to look at. Friend already had the charger installed in their garage. I’m very curious to see it. April delivery. In my experience Porsche does not execute technology very well. I hear it’s a fantastic handling car and blows away Tesla. It’s smaller than the Panamera. But tested range is 200 miles? That wouldn’t work for me. it’ll be interesting to see how it stacks up against competition.
  12. No offense to those who like it: I love the IDEA of this car but the looks fall short for me - entirely because it’s too busy. The profile isn’t bad but I don’t like the rear and the nose. If it were “lower key” I’d be very interested. Too “boy racer” for my taste kinda like a Honda Civic Type R. Tries too hard to look the part. I prefer understated, more of a sleeper. For wagons in the US, I’ll stay with my ‘18 BMW ix drive I love the look and elegant lines. It’s versatile. Gas mileage is excellent (not overly important but a nice bonus). Comfortable. Our 2012 BMW wagon was bulletproof. The ‘18 has had electrical issues. Stupid annoying things that don’t work consistently as they should. It’s our last BMW. The dealer doesn’t seem to have the ability to fix it. Don’t know what we’ll get next. I hear very mixed reviews on Audi reliability. If they offer a less “fancy” Avant AND they aren’t plagued with issues, I will be tempted. The ‘18 Panamera4 doesn’t get much use these days and is a big car but fantastic driver and versatile with the hatchback. That one might become the default wagon when the BMW goes away. I just wish we had a decent car wash that could accommodate the rear tires. They are too wide for the tracks and it’s a big job to hand wash.
  13. off topic: No demos or drives. Would have taken one in the C8 if I had the chance. Didn’t like the interior but the exterior is okay. Doesn’t look like a vette (to me) but I think it’s reasonably attractive. Wouldn’t kick it out of my garage. Looks like Lambo mated with Fcar and that’s the result. It had a very non-vette-like high pitched sound on track. Very different. Didn’t care for the exhaust note. Weather was spectacular for a change and I had a great time seeing friends. Hubby joined this year which was nice. We were supposed to go to the Roar but I was very sick with a bad cold that turned to bronchitis (a first for me) so had to skip it. Stayed at very nice AirBnB (but arranged direct with owner as I won’t do AirBnB anymore). It’s the fly-in/out community. Very cool to see aircraft going past our room. The owner lent us bikes and took us on a tour riding the taxiways. Lots of fun. Saw a house with double hangars. Planes in one. Porsches in the other. 911R. GT2RS. 918. 73RS.... I didn’t catch them all but it was very impressive. Lots of Lambos in a corrals at the track but never got a chance to stop or take pics. A great weekend. For me it’s more social although I enjoy the racing too. But it’s about spending time with friends.
  14. Very cool and creative ! Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to updates.
  15. Watched the Kominsky Method on Netflix. Well done. A bit depressing at first but rallies and drew us in although the theme is aging and all the sh!t that happens as one gets older. It’s all real life and very relatable (if you are in your 5th+ decade). Humor intersperses the drama and poignant moments. Michael Douglas (not a huge fan but he does a good job with his character), Alan Arkin, Jane Seymour, Paul Rudd (annoying and perfect for his character), Nancy Travis, Danny Devito, and a brief appearance by Kathleen Turner (barely recognizable) and Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul/Breaking Bad). Two seasons. Will watch if they make more...
  16. Thanks for sharing and looking forward to seeing the 2020 reveal!! What an adventure!
  17. Beautiful! Perfect holiday color too!
  18. Merry Christmas, Happy Hannuka and whatever you may celebrate! Wishing all a New Year in the best of health with love and prosperity. Rhyno - congrats on expecting a baby! Looking forward to updates.
  19. Personally I prefer a car over SUV but for choice given I’d go with Urus I am a fan of wagons and hubby likes the sleeper E63. We took a long test drive in one and it rode like a buck board. I’m very easy going about how a vehicle rides. My back is fine and I’ll give up comfort for sporty to an extent. But even I didn’t like how it drove or handled. And hubby has very bad back and cannot tolerate a stiff ride and he hated the E63 despite wanting to love it. We enjoyed several AMG cars in the past but the wagon fell short for us. FYI love our ‘18 Panamera. Hubby puts in comfort mode. I drive in sport plus which drops it a couple inches and stiffens suspension. It handles exceptionally well for a large sedan. Love the hatchback and fold down seats. We can cart a lot of stuff similar to a wagon. Love the look of the current generation. Goes great in snow (AWD). My choice for wagon is BMW 3 series. Certainly not a performance car but handles great, is fantastic in snow (Michelin Alpin) and very versatile. Also relatively small which has its advantages.
  20. Read this on a Porsche forum. Since some folks here might be in the market for a CGT, this is for their info. No affiliation. Click link to go to the original post and photos of the car: https://rennlist.com/forums/porsche-supercars-carrera-gt-918-960/1171947-carrera-gt-1033-a.html Update! Please read and beware: With regards to the 2005 Carrera GT VIN #: WP0CA29865L001528 that I asked about last night, I was fortunate enough (through the powers of Rennlist) to get in touch with the original owner of the car in question. He had informed of a serious crash the car was involved in back in 2008 on Sebring Raceway. He had sold the car damaged, as is on ebay a short time after the crash. Long story short, this car had an extensive repair done that was not/is not being disclosed by the current seller. It might be because they do not know, but being that the local Porsche Dealers were not offering a PPI service aside from a clutch reading, we had to do our own inspection in person which left us perplexed to the cars relatively perfect appearance. Just a heads up to those in the market.

    Watches

Reviving an old topic: what’s the deal with online discounters (chrono24 or authenicwatch.com, DavidSW, jomashop etc) versus buying from an authorized distributor. My watch of 30 years isn’t working correctly and I want an automatic movement. I started looking months ago and finally saw a watch that piqued my interest (Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra co-axial master chronometer). There is a large price difference between a local authorized dealer and on-line pricing. Also different warranties. Omega is 5 year. Jomashop is 2 year. AuthenticWatch is 6 years but obviously it must be their own warranty. I’ll call them Monday and inquire. The watch should need little service for a very long time, but if it needs attention I don’t want to find a problem because I bought a “gray market” watch or something that is shunned by an authorized service center. Or maybe I”m putting too much stock in that and it could be serviced by a legit outfit? I’d like to get the best deal possible, and I don’t mind paying a bit more for a brick/mortar experience (I got to try it on and learn about it) but not 20-25% more. But if buying through an authorized channel is important it may make sense. I’m also researching value on a few watches that belonged to my Dad including a bubble back Rolex, an automatic Omega from 1956 that still works, and a 1997 Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust that is working like a champ! (It’s my temp until I find something I love, IF I find something I love). I’ve worn the same watch every day for 30 years happily, I’m not one to change watches and I’d like to choose a watch that will last the next 30 years. Hubby and I are very inexperienced in buying watches. Any advice is appreciated. Watch I’m interested in: 1997 Rolex works great after sitting in a drawer for over a decade: Bubble back - not sure from what year but it works Omega given to Dad by his parents in 1956 - still works:
