sprite Report post Posted October 26, 2009 Is it customary to tip movers? If so how much?

JMS350Z Report post Posted October 26, 2009 I worked as a mover in college. I got tips sometimes, anywhere from $10 - $50 depending on what I was moving etc. -J
sprite Report post Posted October 26, 2009 There are two of them. I guess I'll give them $100 to share if they put everything together the way it's supposed to go.
SteveH Report post Posted October 26, 2009 I also worked as a mover to pay for college. I got anywhere from $10-$50 depending on client. The nicest client I had was an upper middle class guy who built his business from nothing and was now moving up in the world. He didn't even have a diploma. He gave us each (4 of us) $50 each day we were there (2 day move, 1 load and 1 unload). He also bought lunch each day, and a couple beer when the job was done. The worst was some rich bitch who was divorcing her ex and wouldn't even offer us water. She got mad at us because the 30-some-odd wardrobe boxes wouldn't all fit in her new (smaller) house and we had to start putting them in the garage, to which we heard we couldn't because she had to fit her porsche in there...... Tipping isn't mandatory, but is nice. Personally, I always preferred when the client had some gatorade and a sub for lunch, as it made for a nice break and showed they were looking out for us. JBrown Report post Posted October 26, 2009 I would definitely grab lunch and drinks for them... As for a tip; if they are respectful and do a good job... I see no reason not to
porter Report post Posted October 26, 2009 Each time I need movers I grab the head guy. There's always one guy that is more alpha than the rest. I usually take him aside and tell him there is $150 in cash for himself to divide amongst everyone as he sees fit if they don't fcuk up the walls or furniture in either home/office/whatever. You'd be amazed how careful they are of walls and squeezing furniture down narrow hallways after that.
